Every coin will be speculation from people especially those coins with huge market cap. Whales will attempt to keep the price down to accumulate cheaply before pumping in the next round. This was what happened in Ethereum when it felt from more than 0.01 BTC to less than 0.002 BTC 2 years ago. There was no bad news on the coin so it was used to depress the price to buy it cheaply.

Ripple is not true cryptocurrency it is a centralized system with central authority backing it. They are controlling large portion of ripple tokens as well.
It's hard to say that price of Ripple is organic, most likely not. We had two massive pumps in the past and right after initial euphoria price was always gravitating towards bottom line.
Currently we have another big pump, I expect patter will be the same this time as well.

We have major banks involved so manipulation will most likely come from them. The owners of Ripple could also make a fortune fom it by manipulation if they so choose.

If the Ripple platform actually owns so many XRP, wouldn't the price be prone to speculation/control?

I think it too but I want to know who behind to control its price? He might own large amount of BTC to do it Cheesy

yeah, definitelly.
But xrp have been closing big deals so why would they dump? the banks interested in xrp isn't speculation. i'm still a believer.

The big banks and boys interested are essentially creating a new monopoly, no? One of the reason we want to abandon fiat is because someone controls it.

Precisely! Any currency that is "controlled" by a selected entity will be manipulated to benefit that entity at the end of the day.
No to centralised currencies!

it was the number 2 to bitcoin for ages in market cap. that was mainly down to ripple hoarding so many of them themselves. there haven't been as many pumps, dumps and speculative episodes compared to other coins I think mainly because very few people give a shit about it.
