Which begs the question - how did other escrow "agents" get started in the biz. Sounds like a complete catch 22. Did they just do some private deals and get a positive trust rating first? Then move into the escrow biz?

People ask me to escrow all the time.  I have never lent or borrowed BTC myself.     I guess they just notice the people who are active and active in a positive way.  I have invested so much time into the community that it is unlikely I would run with the coins.

Classic long-con logic. Caught you!  Grin It's probably because of your involvement in the community and your green Trust: 1: -0 / +3(3) rating. But yeah, I agree you should only let people hold on to your money who seem to be long standing active members as they probably care more about the community and rep than scamming you out of your 0.05BTC  Cheesy.

Crikey - you can't be an escrow agent if you get upset like this. Its not like anyone said anything bad about you dude. Escrow agents have to deal with all kinds of s***

People who offer escrow services like this are either A) genuine but really naive and just want to build up rep but get a bruised ego when you question their motives, or B) Scammers, who get upset/annoyed that they're not going to get any easy free money.

I think he was just naive ..... or maybe that's me being naive

Maybe he was both naive and a scammer? Most usually are if they go this route Cheesy.

How does anyone gain trust? You do it other ways by doing other deals. If people see you have sold items on here and/or are a long-standing active member of the community, you'll be more 'trustworthy' than a guy who's been around for a week and done nothing other than ask to hold onto peoples' money for them.

If you wanted to gain trust another way and prove you're legit you could offer to scan in personal documents, ID, proof of address etc to give people a little bit more trust in you. I think this would give people a bit of piece of mind, but I'd just go for the building up trust over time route. It's not easy to do so, but that's how it should be.

It usually takes trust before you can escrow for others. You are putting the cart before the horse.

The point of using an escrow is that you use a trusted middleman. At the moment you're not trusted, so it would defeat the purpose of using an escrow.
