That's just a way for Yahoo to increase views to their article; as you might be aware, many media outlets are now producing clickbait articles solely for the purpose of increasing views because cryptocurrency is so popular right now. Ignore this post; I don't believe yahoo was set up to promote bitcoin in the first place, and I'm pretty sure such an article isn't organized and written because yahoo's higher-ups wanted it to be.

Ugly move from Yahoo: "Bitcoin is to the crypto market what Netscape was to search engines in the early days of the Internet. There’s a need for a better solution, and the market is responding."

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/forget-bitcoin-crypto-assets-154341517.html

I think we're gonna see a huge BTC rise in the coming months, it's the calm before the storm. HODL!

Who knows if that is a post Yahoo themselves submitted. As far as I know they allow guest authors to write articles, pay for it and submit it on their domain. The person who wrote it could literally be anyone not associated directly with Yahoo and there is reason to believe that it was a fanboy of the other crypto assets. That article has been posted in many places if you just google the author's name.

I dont think its a pure bad things, they promote altcoins and somehow its good.
Also, this crypto space is on early phase and we dont know how the space would evolve in the future, maybe Bitcoin is the first, but probably its not the best to survive.

I find it kinda ironic that author of that Yahoo article said that "Bitcoin is to the crypto market what Netscape was to search engines in the early days of the Internet. There’s a need for a better solution, and the market is responding." while he unintentionally described Yahoo itself, as they are indeed on the path to become as relevant as Netscape is today Cheesy. With the kind of clueless people they hire, from top to  bottom as that author, no wonder that they are shadow of once respectable company.

But seriously, who reads Yahoo anyways??

LOL ,i do agree they don't try to look at themselves in the mirror but many businessmen etc still reading yahoo finance, not to mention it was built-in to some of electronic devices like mac and Iphone i've seen the news from yahoo finance quite frequently.
Talking about the article though, bitcoin was deemed to be the digital gold, doesn't matter whether it's gonna be outdated technology and innovation wise it's still considered as expensive thing nonetheless so there's no such thing as the netscape of crypto or whatever since bitcoin itself doesn't generate profit from usage unlike yahoo and netscape and it seems the author doesn't really get themselves up to date with the current market anyway.

sometimes these kinds of articles are just to divert peoples focus or give more eye openesss. this caption is really to get peoples attention off it which can mean that bitcoin price is high for newbies with low capital , and suggest an alternative for them.
Don't you worry mate, because this add popularity to Bitcoin being connected to Yahoo's Name.

Remember that Good publicity and Bad Publicity is the same for Public response.

This has become a trend now. A number of whales are entering the cryptocurrency sector and are trying to pop up shitcoins such as Doge and Ripple. They know that they have missed the boat with Bitcoin. So they are manipulating the smaller coins. And the impact is very visible in the cryptocurrency market. Dogecoin has gone up by almost 25,000% during the last 12 months. But once the manipulation is over, it will come back to its previous level (i.e $0.002 per coin). It looks as if all the coins, other than BTC are being manipulated now.

I think the writer just use terms that will catch its readers attention.  Honestly the article is a bit shallow, there are lots of altcoin that is more promising than the one mentioned on the article.  If only he did his research well, we would be seeing more altcoin if not another altcoin on his suggestion list.
Don't doubt your claim because that's how they do it in the article industry, they try to make the words more flamboyant and catchy since it generates more clicks, that's why I don't believe these articles because they sometimes stray too far from the truth.

What's Litecoin doing on the list anyway, UNI and Link that I understand since they're very promising and have alot of future ahead but Litecoin is just another OG benefiting from the success of bitcoin. I think it's quite time we left all this old project that offers nothing new to the industry and give room for more innovative and promising project to take the spotlight.

The writer only used his headline to catch the attention of his audience, to be frank, the only reason I read through the article was because I wanted to see what he mentioned due to the headline. I think he (the writer) must be a Litecoin bag holder and just trying to pump it like creating more awareness with this article.

I won't be surprised though that's what most old project are now doing, just creating hype around the project when nothing is been developed. Bitcoin uni and link were just used to complete the puzzle.

Since Bitcoin managed to rise above the price of $ 60k, and also Tesla invested in Bitcoin. News related to Bitcoin is interesting to be able to attract
many visitors. Therefore, the media and new portals make a lot of FUDs, so that the new portals can benefit from Bitcoin news. Therefore we should
do a cross check, and some appraisal to find out the truth of the news.
Some people or novice investors or lay people will not check the truth of the news presented on the news portal. They just read the headline and immediately give their opinion. Good or bad news that is disseminated will be very influential, especially the big news portals that spread the news.

Being a smarter and more conscientious investor will save us from various kinds of FUD.

This is the importance of educating novice investors and lay people, so that they always check the truth of the news they read first.
Don't let them get misleading information and have a bad opinion about Bitcoin. therefore, it is indeed very dangerous FUD circulating today.
Because it can affect the minds of people who are new to the crypto world, it is feared that there are many people who end up making
the wrong decision because they are influenced by the circulating FUD.

Is it really? I mean it could make sense at some point, is it really Yahoo? because I don't think it will have many benefits to the company spreading this kind of news and there was a writer.

Or it could be a interesting news so people could visit there website because of this kind of news, they might have a connection with the other altcoins project that is why it is promoted.

But it's kinda true there are a lot of altcoins out there that have a lot of potentials and could be the next big thing and everyone have a different opinion about bitcoin.

The author is suggesting altcoins.

And that's up to the readers if they're going to follow the suggestion that he has mentioned in that article for which those who have experience, will be divided to the suggestion.

The author doesn't have to mention and compare things with bitcoin.

and we must be really selective in choosing news that is important, according to the facts, because it can affect the analysis.  often the media and news portals also take this opportunity to attract visitors to their pages, either for other crypto promotional purposes or purely to keep the page alive.  so, don't be easily provoked, avoid fud and focus on other useful news.
Some fake news portals or well-known news portals will also take advantage of every situation to benefit the news portal so that more visitors and give lots of FUD when bitcoin prices are too high and provide good news about bitcoin when the price is bottomed.

this has all been planned and arranged in such a way. Fundamental science like this will go a long way in knowing where market prices are going. technical analysis can not be kept away from fundamentals, everything will be related.

Well, that’s what they are always going to say, and I am not going to blame them because most of them are saying based on their level of understanding and experience. Our understanding differs, and we act according to the level of understanding that we have. You can see their reference, which is about search engine and they believe that Bitcoin is fade away because it is the first, and there are going to be other cryptocurrencies in future that are going to be better than it.

Well, if it’s about having cryptocurrencies that are better than bitcoin in some areas, there are already a lot of them that are either good in fees, or they are good in handling transactions and all that. So there are already a lot of them, but the future of these coins is one thing that none of us can tell.

I will keep the bitcoins that I have, I will not be affected by news or advertisements that will destroy bitcoin. This news circulating aims to increase the price of the altcoins they promote such as UniSwap, Litecoin and Chainlink.
I also bought some Altcoins like (UNI, LTC and LINK) but I will not sell the bitcoins I have because of the negative news about bitcoin, I better hold Bitcoin because the price will definitely be more expensive in the future.

Litecoin is strange I would say to be added into that list. I mean Uni and Chainlink I get, they're both quite heavy into defi and makes sense they'd pay yahoo to mention them but LTC is about as decentralized as it gets for an alt, especially since its own dev just left it.

I see it as strange how these things can appear together even though unrelated;)

Exactly. Netscape did have its advantages at first but perhaps didn't evolve fast enough. What we know now is that the user base for BTC is definitely in the masses and with everything still being dependent on it, I'd say the analogy is fair but it doesn't capture the true difference between a browser and an economic assets that disrupts the entire financial system. BTC is therefore here to stay.

Mostly really, the problem here is that people's perception of Bitcoin "evolving" is always on the fast transactions and cheap fees spectrum. While that's definitely great, it's really really difficult to achieve fast transactions and cheap fees on-chain without sacrificing security and decentralization. Hence why the hopes are on layer-2s.

For years, there have been people and companies that don't believe in or don't like bitcoin. but in the end they were the ones who lost and were wrong. It is natural that it is like this now. There is no such thing as everybody will be a bitcoin fan. The bad thing here is that a big company like yahoo has this kind of thinking. this can confuse people.

Despite telling to forget bitcoin, bitcoin will never be forgotten and bitcoin is the orientation of all altcoins. Bitcoin is the king of all altcoins.

I don't think anyone in the cryptocurrency sphere should care about the negative things some private companies, a government official said about Bitcoin cause in the end Bitcoin is still winning despite their negative statement which was planned to cause fud.
Looking at the link you provide, I believe it a paid advert and I don't think you'll expect Yahoo or the article writer will praise Bitcoin rather than doing what they are paid for.
I also think like you. We should not be ignorant of other people's ignorance of Bitcoin. In fact, a person's negative reviews do not adversely affect Bitcoin. Bitcoin itself still has a strong attraction to many people because of the benefits it brings.

On a slightly different note, I think the intention and tone of this article aren't what OP is trying to implicate. Yahoo is suggesting coins that are still underpriced than their value and it has given 3 good utility coins which can actually go very high in their value. They are not trying to say that BTC is useless instead they are just saying that it's no more exciting in terms of multiplicating because while BTC has grown thrice from its previous all-time high. These coins have come long way ahead than that. It doesn't implicate "Yahoo Hates BTC". Moreover, the Analogy is correct at least in terms of the utility of the coin, Bitcoin isn't used a lot in transactions these days due to hefty fees.

Yeap, hence why I said that the journalists are simply ignorant. Bitcoin is always being compared to early iterations of certain platforms/software; despite Bitcoin being not just any kind of software, as it's a protocol. It's quite a significant difference.
It's not comparison but analogy in my opinion since Netscape is the first famous browser and Bitcoin being the first of its kind, I think that that analogy is the reason why they believe that bitcoin is going to be obscure in the long run which isn't true because I think Netscape didn't last a decade.

Inappropriate comparison. I think these guys just did not have time to buy bitcoins on time and now they are just angry about it. Lost profits and misunderstanding of investors, although there may be some other motives. In any case, bitcoin is not going anywhere, it will be mined for a long time and the price of bitcoin (I'm sure) will only grow in the long term. Even if something more advanced comes to replace it and the market accepts it, bitcoin itself will remain in history and its owners will not lose from their investments.

Netscape was more popular as a browser to me than a search engine and what they are telling is that there will be an alternative that would take over Bitcoin and anything is possible in this market if someone is able to come out with a better solution than what we have in Bitcoin then it is possible that coin could take over Bitcoin in terms of adoption, till now we have not seen anything that shows that there will be a major shift anytime soon.

Not saying this in bad faith, just having some tongue out, but I guess we should thank Yahoo and others then for pulling the wool over people's eyes and helping Bitcoin prove itself against them.

On the other hand, they're also interviewing Coindesk editor apparently in other news I saw, so pretty apparent that the media (or at least, Yahoo) are playing both sides like a profit-oriented media company should.

Naiveness can kill than a disease, we shouldn't be bothered about what people said out of lack of knowledge mind you ex-Paypal CEO once compare Bitcoin to his autograph and now he wishes he didn't.
The writer of the article posted only believes TPS is the major thing that defines good crypto whereas the technology itself and the concept are what plays an important role.
There would be some change of minds in the future and most likely with these kind of negative sentiments turns out to be just contradictory on what theyre currently doing

which they might be saying up some Fuds for them to hope to enter out on the market with cheaper price or actually had already bought coins behind the curtains.

When these kind of words are popping out in the market then its likely we might really be seeing some another bullish run in upcoming months or years.
Change is always constant and I also expect some change of mind in the future but there will be some people who will never support Bitcoin (an Buffet Warren) but the Yahoo situation they are just doing their job and the intention may be to cause fud so they can accumulate some Bitcoin.
Speaking of the bull run to happen in the upcoming months, if the Bitcoin market still replicates the old bullish market trend I expect the bull run market to be over when it November.

Oh boy.. Just another "junk", uninformed article by Yahoo editors... DeFi is indeed a trend and will most probably be part of our future, but we should see it as a complementary infrastructure to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, not an "alternative" to Bitcoin. Take Sovryn for example. It is built on the RSK network which is a second layer to Bitcoin. We can now borrow, lend, provide liqudity, organise token sales and so much more in a decentralized fashion. Not shilling SOV. I'm just writing what I see happening. Ethereum hasd crazy high fees so its scalability gives me second thoughts.

If this was written by a Yahoo author, I just have to say "OH, THE IRONY!!!".  Yahoo is a dinosaur now compared to Google, just in case you didn't get my drift.

That said--and I'm no hater of bitcoin--there are much better alternatives in the crypto space when it comes to cryptocurrencies.  For the last few weeks, bitcoin has sucked as a currency if you were trying to buy something with it.  Network fees are/were very expensive and confirmation times slow.  Pretty much any altcoin that has value would work so much better, and I think it's pretty hard to argue that isn't the truth, no matter how much you might like bitcoin.

But the market loves bitcoin, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.  It might end up being primarily a store of value than a form of money that people use for goods & services, and I'd be just fine with that.

And they put litecoin on that list of cryptos to keep an eye on?  Jesus.

I'm not saying that it's impossible, but I wouldn't go that far tbh. There's really no reason for Yahoo! to want newbies to be losing money on cryptocurrencies. It's simply just the case of having a compelling clickbaity article for people to click on, without giving a crap on what their potential next moves would be.

Articles having titles like this is the only way for them to attract reader/users to their site. Click bait in other words. You see, as soon as people see something negative, they tend to click it. Like you. You just shared this article because of the title. Most people are attracted towards negative news. There are bitcoin haters (due to being ignorant) and when they see something like this, they start sharing and spreading the news. The mainstream media has always been like this. Let's just ignore the negative thought about bitcoin from a different company, we should not give them time arguing with them because if they don't want to believe then they will not listen to anyone, once a person or a group has a stand on something then it is really hard for them to pursue on something that contradicts their stand. Despite those negative things bitcoin is still at the top.

That's indeed not fair to Bitcoin. While Bitcoin is new, it's already obvious how different it's from Netscape. Netscape started operating in 1994, had its best time in 1999, and by 2003 according to Wikipedia,
Quote
Most of the programmers were laid-off, and the Netscape logo was removed from the building.
So in 9 years from its creation, it was already a big mess, and it was obvious that it was dying. It's been 12 years for Bitcoin already, and it's as strong, expensive and popular as ever. There's up to date no coin that poses even a serious threat to BTC dominance, whereas Netscape started losing to Internet Explorer in 1998 already.
In any case, it's just an opinion by the finance guy who wrote this article, and I think he just used these intro paragraphs about Bitcoin as an attention grabber.

That's like just a way for yahoo to improve view to their article, you know recently many medias are also making such clickbait article just for the views because crypto is so hot right now.
Just ignore this article really, I don't even think yahoo was intended to fud bitcoin anyway since i'm pretty sure such article isn't coordinated and published because the higher ups of yahoo intended but because journalist opinion.
not to mention this article created without any deep knowledge regarding the market condition seeing that he's recommending ltc over btc lol.

Oh boring have seen this headline in the LAST rally with ICOs. Bitcoin is the netscape of browsers because IE was much better right? And even articles were saying BTC was the Myspace of social media because Facebook is so popular.

I still use Mozilla software today, which, by the way, was founded by Netscape.

Still alive. Still the best.

Not just an ugly move, but a bold move as well.
I don't feel secured anyway in their mail services.
How funny they're saying that there are more than worth of other crypto to be followed for "practicality of decentralized finance", while Bitcoin already solves that.

Sounds like paid advertising disguised as article. But it's funny the another criticize Bitcoin, while recommending Litecoin, where it's technology/feature is very similar with Bitcoin.

It's not comparison but analogy in my opinion since Netscape is the first famous browser and Bitcoin being the first of its kind, I think that that analogy is the reason why they believe that bitcoin is going to be obscure in the long run which isn't true because I think Netscape didn't last a decade.

You can call it a comparison or analogy or whatever you like but it doesn't change the fact that it's not a valid comparison. The TCP/IP protocol is a far fairer comparison than comparing Bitcoin to Netscape.

why should we forget about bitcoin when btc is at the center of the crypto market. Even stranger, they recommend coins like UNI, LTC and LINK which are far from the current rumors and hype. and they left BNB, when the smart chain was rated better than ethereum. when talking about profitable coins, BNB should also be included because it is one of the potentially profitable coins.

Netscape was in the early days of the internet the most popular browser. Other companies released their own versions (like Internet Explorer) and Netscape started losing ground until it was eventually completely abandoned. Since bitcoin is the oldest cryptocurrency, he believes the coin will lose its market share because newer, faster, and less costly coins already exist. However, the market plays by its own rules, and even though bitcoin isn't the fastest and cheapest coin to transfer value with, it is the safest and most decentralized one. Investors trust bitcoin more than any other crypto, so the opinion of the author makes no difference.

Yeap, hence why I said that the journalists are simply ignorant. Bitcoin is always being compared to early iterations of certain platforms/software; despite Bitcoin being not just any kind of software, as it's a protocol. It's quite a significant difference.

They are ignorant because they don't know much information about bitcoin also they are one sided and always think about negatively on bitcoin expect something like this comparissons, and bitcoin alwats show dominance thru out years. I wonder how far we can go with this and let see if there are still people will think negatively if we see more huge upwarde and adoption.

We should focus on bitcoin, but we also need to focus on altcoin, especially when the altcoin season will come again. Bitcoin and altcoin will make another ATH and that will depend on us how we can use that moment to make as much profit as possible. Besides UNI, LTC, and LINK, I believe many more coins will increase in the altcoin season and hopefully, one or more of our coins will be the next coins that will increase. You should search for the other coins and start to buy if you want.

I think what the article actually tries to say is that if you invest in BTC NOW, you will not make that much.
While other cryptos will now see same growth as BTC has made over the past few years.
To some extent this is true also. There are Alt coins that have given 1000x returns in just few months from their inception.
Anyway, we have seen all the odds against BTC yet it has flourished. No Yahoo and Google can change this.

The same reason how there are a crap ton of non-factual articles getting spread out across the internet concerning Bitcoin's negative environmental effects.
I haven't read the article, and I don't want to give it another click, but I understand what the author was trying to say because he used Netscape for comparison.

They are just trying to be an investment-oriented agency by offering 3 quality altcoins: UNI, LINK and LTC. Those cryptocurrencies have increased in value as the current market cap is flowing to altcoins.
There will come a day when they will have to change their opinion and perceive the value of Bitcoin.
This article is true now, but next year it will no longer be true. Because if one day Bitcoin goes into a downtrend, the above altcoins will drop dramatically (in my experience in a downtrend).

Actually, the article writer is just using this strategy in order to get the attention of the readers that is why Bitcoin is being portrayed as somewhat a little negative here. And for me that is just fine. This is just the opinion of the writer and I don't think he is credible enough to be pronouncing something good or bad on an asset that has had so many colorful experiences in the past, right now and would be in the future. Or maybe this is because there is somewhat a consensus that with the rise of Ethereum right now the future of Bitcoin maybe jeopardized -- which is of course something that may or may not really be true. We can all believe whatever we want to believe here in this industry because once we are proven wrong it can just mean that we are humans after all.

As per the data released by Stat Counter, Yahoo's market share in internet search market is only 1.52%. So I doubt anyone will be interested in such news against bitcoin.

https://gs.statcounter.com/search-engine-market-share

But I don't really see this article as an attack against the crypto market. Because it is promoting altcoins through this article. So even if this article shows any impact on the crypto market (highly unlikely) it will probably be a net positive.

If Google had released this article, then it would have been grave concern. But who cares about Yahoo anyway!

Maybe this is the policy of the new employers? We'll have to wait and see the line of the future news from there, but it doesn't look good.

Might be the cause... This might be the opinion of the new owners. This happens with most of the news outlets or publishers, The writers have to adjust to the new owner's thoughts. Also, there are people who try to create a FUD among the market so that he/she/they can buy the coin when it gets dumped. I don't think anyone will fear these things now. Hodlers are stronger than ever and a fake FUD is harder to get successful.

Maybe, Yahoo just want to give altcoins an opportunity to become known not only bitcoin.

There are a lot of other profitable coins that are existing in the market and you just need to explore it and know how to use it.

We all know that Yahoo is one of the most popular internet websites that are still active and this can greatly affect the bitcoin's adoption in many countries.

It's funny how he pushes altcoins of his picks while pushing down Bitcoin because of his seemingly negligible knowledge of what Bitcoin even is. It's unfortunate, but that's how it is when you want your article to actually be noticed. It's the shill of the altcoins, and what better way to actually advertise his coins than to talk down on what Bitcoin is right?

But hey, nothing changes, it is for a fact that some altcoins perform better at the bad sides of Bitcoin, but the fix for that is only a matter of time. Change wasn't something that was dropped in one whole package, rather it was built upon changes of changes from itself.

This is a clickbait article, but I understand the hate towards Bitcoin. Many people are upset by the slow transactions and high fees.
If someone creates an altcoin, that is as secure and decentralized as BTC,but with cheaper and faster transactions, many people will embrace it.There's nothing wrong with that.
The Bitcoin fanatics shouldn't be such closed-minded traditionalists. We must embrace change and innovation.
The problem is that don't see such altcoin in the current crypto market.

The author of the article, Nikolas Joyce is the CIO of The Strategic Funds. I reckon that he might be obviously shilling for those coins he mentioned and probably are advising his clients to buy it, or maybe they have bought a bag full of this Altcoins.

So don't be surprised by this article, might be better to ignore it and just buy bitcoin right now because the price is again at a discount.
Just like any other FUD or articles that are pretending to be not be FUD but is a FUD, we just have to ignore it because most of them have the same structure as back when bitcoin prices was still around the 3 to 4 digit prices.

I don't know if there's a change of hearts in the future but it looks like they were just like Bill Gates and other large institutional investors yet don't want to settle to a high volatility market. Well, time can tell whether they're going to change their minds or not it doesn't matter as long as there are people who still support Bitcoin in the future and that only matters.

People really need to do their own research if they really want to invest but I wonder what makes yahoo company think that Bitcoin is not worthy to invest. It might be another propaganda that would lead to a FUD or something but I don't see any slight effect yet. But maybe their intentions are different compared to other FUDers out there.

Just another click bait article from Yahoo and perhaps they have missed the boat on bitcoin, or this does not reflect the company itself but by the author only.

Bitcoin is down and so is the whole market, although there are some altcoins that continues to pump, but more investors are taking the profits already and there's a big possibility that there will be a complete shift to bitcoin in the coming months so yeah, this could be a calm before the storm, so everyone should be ready to buy at this current price again.

These opinion writers always make a simple linear extrapolation. If Bitcoin falls, it must fall to zero. If alts are rising, they must continue to rise until they are bigger than Bitcoin. Bitcoin haters will always find new ways to dismiss Bitcoin, even if it means supporting altcoins.

Or, in this case, it's just blatant shilling for DeFi and one altcoin called UNI. If someone investigated it, they could probably uncover a "donation" to the author from someone with a large stake in DeFi.
