IF - There is no malintent, or a kind of scam, I can open an account with MTGox. Can these be growing headaches of a company? Or would this be a kind of scam - or may be government will shut them down?

If there is no bad intent - then they are OK with me.

I dont believe they want to scam anybody, but you must understant it is company which may turn to insolvency because of legal problems in US. And any money or Bitcoins at MtGox are not yours, so pretty risky keep there something

To answer you as direct as possible, you can trust mt.gox. They won't scam you, although they are not perfect.

Hmmmm. So better not put eggs in Bitstamps basket.

I am still considering MTGox - but nobody tell that if they started to scam people or it is just growing pains.

Bitstamp Ltd. is located in Berkshire, UK but it is just a Ltd. which is not a sign of credibility as such.
While this is the businesses address i think i read that they were based in eastern europe.

I am from Turkey - but I want an established firm MtGox, at first looks as a legitimate one. I did not research it though.

Are they based in Japan? There should be more regulation there, may be more than US and EU?

Withdrawal time length is not important, as long as they have no bad intent, or they are collapsing. If it is some procedure - then no problems.

The problem is I opened a support ticket on how to deposit them - no response so far in 2 day. That rings some bells. But when I open an account with them - I will just buy and wait - no trade. Long term. So I do not believe I should need support a lot. Yubikey etc are a nice feature.

But as I understand I will wait almost 10 days for the deposit to appear - That's kinda lot.

IF - There is no malintent, or a kind of scam, I can open an account with MTGox. Can these be growing headaches of a company? Or would this be a kind of scam - or may be government will shut them down?

If there is no bad intent - then they are OK with me.

What about the Bitstamps you mention? Where are they located? Are they a large company?

Gox takes several weeks to process information, accounts and actual exchanging. I would use coinbase or campbx! Good luck!

If there was just one "best" exchange, everyone would use it and the others wouldn't exist.

Each exchange is "best" for a different group of people based on their local banking conditions, their countries restrictions, the frequency that they'll be making trades, the total amount of bitcoins they'll be acquiring, etc.

You've told us nothing about your situation, it is impossible for anyone to give educated advice.

Pythagoras and Plato are my brothers.
btc-e, bitstamp requires account verification.

Does BTC-E now require ID verification if you only trade and withdraw cryptocoins ? Last time I used it (few months ago) they didnt require ID verification ...

i would keep in mind that if privacy/anonymity is a concern localbitcoins.com seems to be the only way to go as all the other relatively trustworthy exchanges require you to verify your account by submitting high-quality scans of id's and the like.

i just registered with bitstamp and was rather surprised to find such strict verification rules:
Code:
To verify your account please submit

1.) a valid government issued ID, acceptable high quality images of documents are:

    international passport (double page)
    national ID card (both sides)
    driver's license (both sides)

2.) a proof of residency, acceptable scanned images of paper documents are:

    bank statement
utility bill for utilities consumed at your home address
    tax return, council tax
certificate of residency issued by a government or a local government authority

You can also submit other documents to serve as proof of residency such as; government-issued documents, judicial authority-issued documents, documents issued by a public agency / authority, utility service company, or similar regulated service providing companies.
Notice

To avoid delays when verifying your account, make sure that your submitted documents are:

VISIBLE in their ENTIRETY (watermarks are permitted)
images of HIGH QUALITY (colour images, 300dpi resolution or higher)
valid ID documents, with the expiry date clearly visible
proof of residency document must be a scanned image of a PAPER document
proof of residency document must be ISSUED within the last 3 MONTHS and addressed to your NAME and HOME address
NOT ELECTRONIC bills/statements, online screenshots, or mobile phone bills.

My verification was denied, what now?

Please check your email for the reason and re-submit a verification request with the correct documents. If you should need further assistance please submit a support ticket to: https://www.bitstamp.net/support/
