This needs to be said more often. Over consumption is the cause of most of our woes. We are addicted to accumulating STUFF we dont need. Our economy is based on it.Obesity is in our psyche as well as in our bodies....and we need to stop. Stop that way of thinking and you stop the physical obesity. You cant stop obesity without tackling the thought processes that cause it.

We only need a little. But, if denying yourself is bringing you displeasure, why not get more, especially if it isn't harming anyone else?

Wouldn't you rather be rich and miserable than poor and miserable?

It is not the middle class which is indulging in over-consumption. 99.99% of the over-consumption is done by the High Net Worth (HNW) individuals and the Ultra High Net Worth individuals, who constitute just around 0.001% of the world population. A notable example is Gina Rinehart, who once (infamously) asked the Australian laborers to work on her mines for $2 a day (and that too in 12-hour shifts).

it is very true that sometimes we consume too much than we need. we might realize this but due to different reasons we are unable to stop. you know that something will harm your health but you cant stop because you have already been hooked. The society we are living in has convinced us that we have to use some products but the fact is that we don't really need them. so the best way to stop using some things is by never starting. if that is possible

We are not consuming too much. From the standpoint of what exists, the consumption of the people of the whole world is little or nothing.

We don't need much. All a person needs is air, water, food, clothing and shelter. An acre of fertile land can supply all the food a person needs for a whole year, physically. But, mentally many of us need a lot more.

The only thing that we should maintain as a rule for our consumption is, are we hurting anyone else, or are we damaging his property.

Anybody who tells you different than the above, hasn't thought it through, or is trying to take your stuff away to give to the wealthy who always want more.

<< From a material standpoint, our needs should be limited, but advertisers take advantage of our unlimited emotional needs to keep us shopping, says a former ad writer. The first step to a solution, he believes, is seeing the problem. >>
