This feature should be removed imo. If a nefarious person ever became a moderator of a board the exposed email could be used to hack the account. I have no reason to believe any of the current mods are dodgy but the number of accounts that get hacked via the email address is always surprising to me. Or maybe it's just the NSA or NWO that is doing that...

I completely agree with the above statement.
Could we have a poll or some other means to decide whether revealing the email-id is required?
I have considered changing my email-id entered into a junk id, just because of this warning.

But yeah, I don't really see the point either.

anyway why in the world would any Moderators spam your email adress , it dosen't make sense . beside probably the email adresses are visible to mods on our profile so .. yep

No, if you set your email to be hidden not even staff members can see your email (except from admins of course)

I see .. didn't knew that . Thanks for the information man
It's obvious for the Admins , even if they can't see it on our profiles , they can see it on the database Grin

I'm certain this is why I get so much spam.

Glad the staff member just explained this .

I see...that makes sense, then. So reports in sections without local board moderators still keep your email hidden.

Alright, thanks for the info.

Yes, as none would receive an email. Although I don't know if the global moderators can see your email, but I doubt it.

It's not really an issue, but I'm just curious as to why this is. Is it a feature of SMF that can't be disabled? Or is it there for an actual reason?

Only the specific board moderator(s) can see your email when you report a post.

For example if you report a post in the Greek board (in which I'm the board moderator), I receive an email from the forum saying that you reported a post, and that's when I can see your email (in my mailbox, not in the forum)

Also, if you report a post made by a newbie, your email is not known to all the patrollers, but as I said only to the board moderator (if there is one)

Let's talk governance, lipstick, and pigs.
I'm certain this is why I get so much spam.

No, I wouldn't say that (although I could be missing out on sarcasm...), but I am curious as to why this is.
Simple. Some of the mods are douche bags. Not naming names.
