Life is a game, you either play it or get played.
Surprising to believe the value is held, let's hope he gets enough off video views to pay for this.

In realistic view as technology evolves to be enabled in these circumstance to test curiosity... Since the dangers were controlled the test was well set with nothing wrong deriving by part.

Some guy also destroyed a real diamond and isn't that money also? I think it is the same guy because it was also destroyed using a hydraulic. The guy obviously have wierd issu with his hydraulic crushing.
You can't destroy a diamond with a hydraulic press, without the press being made of diamond, or the contact of diamond.

He did make a video on crushing a diamond, and if you acually watched it, the diamond ended up being encrusted into the metal plate.

It appears that we have underestimated just how ignorant the general public remains about the intrinsic value of gold. Some of the best reactions include:

This is illegal…you can’t destroy money.
This physically pained me. $40,000…
$40,000. I would rather give it to charity…
He is wasting GOLD!!!!
Who the f*** wastes a $40 grand block of gold like this?! Why waste money?!

This must be satire, or trolling. Otherwise, it appears that this person is the ignorant person. He seems to believe that the value of the gold bar is in its appearance.

Anyway, other than demonstrating how soft gold is, it was a pretty boring video.
If you have any common sense at all, you would know that what is quoted isn't the OP's opinion, but in the comments, lol.

But obviously none of you would respond to this as spammers like you never reply back, and only post to post.

Isn't it still worth its weight though, even scrap it would be a good price.
What was the cost of the gold bar, in it's former shape?

It would be worth slightly less, as their is a value in its final smelted form. Also, you would have to get it assayed again.

What is hilarious, is the fact that this is still gold and still the exact same amount of gold. The people freaking out in the comment section, don't understand the true value of precious metals and its ability to retain that value, despite its shape or form.

This channel is based on him crushing things with his hydraulic press. As others have said the gold barely lost any of it's value, sure it may cost a little to melt it again into the shape it was before but the gold isn't lost. I'm sure the gold was sponsored by this company and he had to send it back after crushing. I actually think it was some great advertising, not a big cost for an unique and exclusive video.

I don't think that gold bar have even lost 1 gram after this pressing, it was just pressed which may have increased its density but when it will be weighed it will be not less than 1 kilo. NOTHING is lost, this is just a stunt by youtuber to get more subscribers/views  and i think he have taken that gold bar just in rent and now after this he may have return it.  Grin

haven't you finished high school yet?
density is mass per unit volume which means you divide mass (which has not changed) on the volume (which also has not changed)!

I don't think piloder has questioned the change in mass or volume. Probably you have to read what he said first. Indeed there was no loss of any aspect as the thing just changed shape or just split into pieces. But there was no physical or chemical change in the matter. Hence the gold bar just changed its shape, not its consistency, chemical makeup, atomic particle, etc. Therefore, it did not lose any value regarding weighing the amount of gold left. People are just overacting here. There is nothing to argue about the physics of things.

Even the gold was crushed it could be melt again, shaped, and be sold. even though the price will be decreasing a little bit but he got the money from viewers on youtube and may even surpasses $40k even more! , so i'm sometimes wonder why people here consider this as wasting money. it's GOLD man, not an electronic things that will lost its value when destroyed

I stand with Ukraine.
Nice video to watch, but I don't understand why are there reactions like this "Who the f*** wastes a $40 grand block of gold like this?! Why waste money?!"? I mean he wasted nothing, it's gold ffs, you still can sell it for the same price as before. I bet the bullion company took the bar back afterwards and made a new bullion from it because it's oretty easy to do. Well maybe one gram was lost in the process but not more.

WOW, the level of stupidity and worst of all the level of close mindedness is unbelievable around here!

guys this is a freaking Compressive strength test which the supplier which the youtuber also advertised thanked for supplying the gold bar is testing possibly to see if the end product is following the standards. the actual test is from 1:36 to 1:45 then he has some fun with that tiny press.

then you get the stress-strain curve and do some analysis there.

What do you expect from people on youtube, they are there not for the education of the video but fun. Especially if these videos were all tagged, shared, liked and posted on Facebook. More and more people just looking for entertainment find these videos and just speak their mind about it.

Reminds me of the incident where chemist George de Hevesy helped his fellow scientists hide their Nobel prizes from the Nazis by dissolving them in acid, then reconstituting them after the war. The indestructibility of gold is one of the main reasons it's used as currency in the first place. Are people really this dumb?

Its funny how people reacted to people who crushes a gold bar. Crushing a gold bar is not wasting it  but a test on the durability of the gold bar. Well how about the value of the gold bar, its simple you just collect all the fragments melt it and purify then you can make another gold bar. If you notice you dont mine a gold bar but gold ores and powders, then that mineral is being processed to separate it from other materials. Then after purification process you have a 24 k gold which you can melt and form into a gold bar. Hope this help you guys.

God people these days have a hard time understanding when something retains its value. It's like "if it doesn't look like it's new or the same as it used to be then it has lost all of its value, regardless of how the materials it is made out of effects its value.", kind of a length statement but that seems to be the only thing that encapsulates what they think happens.

They'll probably need a couple'a minute to think things through.  Grin

Seriously though, the bar was much more beautiful and definitely pricier too.
Crushing a perfectly good and assayed piece, just for 'the hell of it and some views'.? Say goodbye to the premiums.

I would say crushing a gold bar would be extremely different than crushing a diamond. When you crush a gold bar, you can just pick-up the pieces then just melt them again into a gold bar. Easy peasy. Unlike if you crush a diamond, you can do what you did with gold. Diamonds takes hundred/thousands/millions of years to create and crushing one will destroy the value of it (part of it that is). The larger the diamond, the more expensive it is, if you crush it, you get smaller pieces which value less than the large one.

Regards people commenting on the video. Too much ignorant people post a stupid comment on any video. It will never end here or any video for that matter. Those people commenting don't even care to understand what the point of the video is. Fist of all, they would not crush that thing just for laughs (on their side at least). They do it for money too. They have advertisers and sponsors paying for the stupid crushing hydraulic press they have there. And most probably, the gold that was crushed will not be theirs to keep. For sure it will be melted back into a bar and wait to be crushed again.

You're exactly right. Gold loosing an arbitrarily crafted shape does not render it worthless. A diamond is much more fragile than gold in that regard - you can even burn it.

I don't understand the problem some Bitcoiners seem to have with gold. There's constant negativity directed at precious metals by some users. As a Bitcoiner myself, I never had such a negative perception of gold. Could it be that some Bitcoiners view precious metals as some kind of competition that needs to be eradicated? That would be dumb...

After all, the mining process of Bitcoin resembles the mining process of precious metals. Precious metal dealers were among the first businesses to accept Bitcoin. I#d say, the wise man should own a bit of both: something virtual and something physical - with both assets protecting against the fiat lunacy.

Crushing the diamond is a far bigger loss than crushing the gold bar. The gold bar maintains all of it's value, as long as it is provable, regardless of the shape of it (in this case a very crushed shape). The diamond breaks down and loses a lot of its value because it is now, well, broken, and essentially a ton of smaller diamonds that are cheaper (even though diamonds should be cheap anyways).

Also I hope a lot of the commenters were young, if they were any older than 12 I think there's a serious need for an increase in education.

Get kids off their phones and back into trades classes.

Are people this stupid? They think its no longer worth money because its not in the same shape?
I guess people don't know that the value is based on weight, and that changing its shape has no effect on mass...

Anyways props to these guys for doing this. Its worth it just to troll people.  Grin
Sure, but you know very well that someone would have bought that bar and paid a premium.   There's always a premium if the metal has been assayed.  Crushing it?  You'll get spot price with no premium.   That's my take on it at least.

What was the cost of the gold bar, in it's former shape?

Its going to be worth just about the same, maybe a slight value loss due to the fact people like a nice bar shape of gold.  If you buy coins for example you end up paying more overall due to paying for design.

A hydraulic press isn't going to pack the gold atoms any closer together to create a denser gold..   Lol

I certainly would not class a diamond as any type of money.

Try reselling the thing to the guy who sold it to you and see what price you end up with.

At least the gold is not lost forever, the person who shares it can at least transform it back in the gold bar again. Gold is a metal so malleable that it can take any shape as you could imagine.
