It's like blaming Hitler's advisors and generals for WWII.

This compairison is ridiculous. Hitler was a de facto dictator with absolute power. The president of US in recent times has only formal power not real power.

Somewhat agree with that post. Take Obama for example. He had no foreign policy of his own. While he was in office, all the important decisions were taken by Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. Obama was more like a puppet.

Should we be happy that he is dead now?  Yes of course.  Atleast he is dead now and his ideals or whatever you call it will all be buried.  No more influence to the terrorist or any terrorist grouo that will be formed under him.  Unless there is a successor and have the same mind like him to make the world a chaos.

I don't understand why everyone is blaming Zbigniew Brzezinski for the rise of Al Qaeda. He was not the president at that time. It was Jimmy Carter, the president then, who approved the plan to provide Al Qaeda with US-made weapons.

The "president" is only a marionette guy whos responsibility is to flatter the populace by talkning nonsence that sounds good.

It is the deep state that decides plans and what to do. "Zbig" came up with the idea to support the taliban to create a "Vietnam" for  the Sovjet union.

This guy is a top of human intelligence and strategical thinking the so called "presidents" do not come close.
Yet, without his approval nothing gets done. He signs the papers and he bears the responsibility. Brzezinski was the architect of the plan, mastermind behind it, but he wasn't the executor and the commander. The command came from the president and the machine moved forward. It's like blaming Hitler's advisors and generals for WWII.
Brzezinski's attitude should be criticized, he stood behind his plan even though it wasn't perfect, but he's not the only one to blame.

He was a person with much intelligence and zero empathy. Trump, Obama, Clinton, Bush are idiots compaired to him. But I am not sure what his motivation was for what he was doing.

I really don't understand the hatred that the USA had for the Soviet Union all because of communism, Communism was never a threat to the  USA and through this hatred, they indirectly founded the Talib and who ended up enslaving the people.

Politics is a very dirty activity. I am sure that Zbigniew Brzezinski was no angel. He laid down his life in the struggle against the main enemy of America is the Soviet Union. He won. The Soviet Union collapsed, but now it's his reincarnation in Russia. I really want to see in America was the man who will be able to continue the work of Brzezinski.

True, the USSR collapsed. Kissinger ended up creating the behemoth that was China but it did ensure their support (or rather, non-support of the Soviets). As always, things are not what they always seem to be. Something that looked a waste of time back then (ex. bitcoin) might turn out to be great. What was the best course of action back then (ex. support Arab revolution) might turn to be horrible decades later.

He had a good life, much better than deserved. I'm not going to mourn neither him nor Kissinger when his time comes. The blood of people who died on 9/11 and during the so called "war on terror" are to some degree on their hands.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, Godfather of al Qaeda and Taliban, Dead at 89

I come not to praise Zbigniew Brzezinski, but to bury him beneath a damning fact omitted from his New York Times and Washington Post obituaries: He bears enormous responsibility for the rise of the Taliban, al Qaeda and ISIS.

In 1979, serving as national security advisor, Brzezinski convinced President Jimmy Carter to approve a plan to provide covert CIA aid to opponents of the pro-Soviet government in Afghanistan.

Carter signed the secret and deeply fateful directive on July 3 of that year. In launching the effort, "we knowingly increased the probability" of a Soviet invasion, said Brzezinski in a 1998 interview.

When that invasion occurred months later, Brzezinski told Carter, "We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam War."

To accomplish that goal, the Carter and Reagan administrations, along with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, funded, organized, transported, armed and trained Salafist extremists to fight the Red Army in a holy war on behalf of Islam. Among those who joined the cause were future al Qaeda leaders Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri and Khalid Sheikh Mohammad.

The enduring global impact of this 10-year program bears emphasis: The CIA and Saudi GID recruited jihadists from all around the Muslim world, creating relationships and networks that would evolve into not only into al Qaeda, but also ISIS and many other Salafist terrorist groups across several continents.

In 1998, Brzezinski was asked if had any regrets about launching the program. He replied, "Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it?"

By some estimates, one million Afghan civilians were killed in the conflict.
