When Ethereum dificulty bomb will increase many miners will be forced to switch to other coin mining.

As I can understand the most close to ETH is ETC and Zcash.

I do not see ETC as a good coin neither to mine or invest.

What about Zcash? This coin will also benefit from ETH switching to PoS?

What about the price?

I think the price will be tanked, remember the more miners will go to the zcash as an alternative for the ethereum coin. I mean those miners will take zcash as the next place to gain profit through his miner rig. it obviously true.

True I heared there is a mining boom in countries with cheap electricity  mostly eastern europe and Russia which start to mine ETH and Zcash as crazy.
They pay almost double price for GPUs. And there are still not too much GPUs for them at market.

Yes the full PoS switch is near the year 2021 or so...

LOL do you know where 2021 is?   TOP10 might be totally different  in 4 years time. Coins mention here could be a marginal coins rare will bother with.

Let me show you an example: http://www.coindesk.com/top-altcoins-2013/

3 years ago top Bitcoin competitors were:
Litecoin Market cap (BTC): 788,023
Peercoin (PPCoin) Market cap (BTC): 126,411
Namecoin Market cap (BTC): 51,911
Worldcoin Market cap (BTC): 31,370
Feathercoin Market cap (BTC): 13,045
Dogecoin Market cap (BTC): 10,421

I think it is too early to look for alternative coins to mine next to ETH, everyone is throwing trash in different sides of crypto. Lots of changes might happen before we reach full POS of ETH.

I don't think that price is related to mining power, I think that mining power is related to price.
IF ETH goes to PoS in the near future, the miners will start mining something else, I agree, but I don't really see why that will increase the price of these coins.

I guess you were looking to get in before a price rise, what I am saying is, I don't see it happening, or at least not sue to ETH going to PoS.  I think the reason that the ETH price is high is due to the massive ICOs that start using ETH so frequently, not because the miners are mining it alot.

How is Zcash an alternative to Ethereum? They're not similar, Zcash is basically an untraceable version of Bitcoin

It's not untraceable... only if you use shielded transactions, which are very compute-intensive, thus noone uses them. The fact dat anonimity isn't enforced on the protocol-level is a big no-no...
Further it also needs a trusted setup (needing trust is antithetical to good crypto), it has a founders reward, it's gonna have big big inflation, it's sponsored by darpa etc.

... it's a piece of crap

best regards,

Firstly let's clear up that the difficulty bomb and the PoS switch are not related.
But if it is no longer possible to mine ETH, then ZEC would be one of the alternative go-to coins.
ETC would currently be the second most profitable option, but it will go nowhere (no growth whatsoever), so it would be a horrible choice.
There's also XMR, DASH, and ZEC forks such as ZCL which are also good choices.
So does it mean that mining profitability becomes obsolete,i think there will be more profitable and minable coins and you really cannot count out ETC here as it has the same features of ETH and if we could see some projects coming out with ETC then it could be the next hot coin, you never count out anything in this market. Smiley
Mining profitability won't become obsolete, and as I said there ARE coins that can be mined which will have comparable profits, but they won't be anywhere near the profitability of ETH.
What ETC has over ETH (or doesn't) doesn't matter at all because we're only talking about profitability, and it's currently the second decent most-profitable coin right now.

I do not see ETC as a good coin neither to mine or invest.
You must be out of your mind to jump to that conclusion illogically. After bitcoin,ETH is only something close that has a value in the market.

What about Zcash? This coin will also benefit from ETH switching to PoS?
Zcash is shit.I'd rather mine ETH based coins which will be lucrative in the long run.

But you can be prepared for it and buy low some of good coins.

I also think that Zcash is one of the best.

Dash is 2nd in my list.

ETC is essentially the same as ETH, so it will be the easiest to migrate to after it goes PoS.
