I guess you finally have your answer - the Bitmain Antiminer Z9 mini

I bet they started mining Zcash a few months ago prior to releasing their first batch to the public.
i second this

as usual, bitmain will run the Z9 first to reap the benefit and recon the miner to be sold to "1st batch" bitmain customers.

happens back then with SiaCoin and ETH too.

equihash asic mining is due later on q4 2018, maybe this is the prototype, i'm not sure, need to get in touch with my inside contact. It is too early for the equihash prototype asic mining.

ETH had similar effect, on december 2017, difficulty was 1.4, now february 2018 3.1. ETH difficulty more than just doubled in 2 months.

Also, I have info that nvidia turin will be almost double of what a rx 580 can do on eth, around 50 - 60mhs and only 30% better on equihash 650 sols on zcash.

That ZCL mining power had to go somewhere....
That's true, but that is only about 1-1.5 M... Where is the rest coming from?

Nvidia has not launched any new GPUs and wont for at least another month. The questions you are asking are purely speculative and nobody answering them here will actually have a clue, with half of them turning it into a conspiracy of some sort.

What's going on?
Checking the coin wars chart just a few hours ago it was aroun 7-8 M, now it's going to 12 M.
Have some big players just poured massive hashrates into zcash?
That would not make sense considering that the price is going down, the difficulty is going up.
Has this something to do with Nvidia launching their new GPUs?
