The authorities are only pushing torrenting underground making it hard for ordinary people to get access to it. Soon the people who are more informed will be the only one to have access to torrents. I foresee that this will create a black market for pirated movies, music, books, etc. for sale on the internet when it was supposed to be free for everyone. Some people will catch up but most will not and would rather pay for pirated stuff.
There is still plenty of standard non-decentralized public torrent tracker floating around. I doubt that pirated version of movies or a music albums will ever be dark market niche - it is not that extreme.

We will have some services powered by cryptography and based on blockchain tech which will help us download files soon - I am talking about next project of Kim Dot Com - Bitcache.

Markets over zeronet

Developing a way to combine OpenBazaar with Zeronet will be quite an interesting project, to say the least, and ZeroBazaar is the first example of how this system could work. Some people may remember the Darkmarket project, and ZeroBazaar is based on that train of thought.

So my suggestion for a very basic architectural overview would be:

1) create a single site ID (Zite in Zeronet) for the market place overview and search (that may be subject of change in later stages)

2) for any offerer of selling goods a new zite must be automatically created which binds his identity (derived from his ZeroID) and offers.

3) payments as well as trading status are stored on a blockchain (DASH ?). If a trade is initiated both participants secure the trade with a fund into a simple smartcontract (multisignature address).

The idea is to drive the discussion on this. If anyone is interested he may participate. If the outcome of the discussion is well accepted and sufficient resources to implement the market are available it may go over into a proposal to fund this project.

ZeroBazaar ball has been dropped ; Monero guys should jump on this opportunity

I disagree that only a portion of the people are using torrents. I see my grandpa knows about it and is making my uncle download old movies from it if they can find it. He also makes him download golf tournaments, instructional videos, golf books and magazines, etc. The point is that even though he is not the one actively using it but he knows about it. Knowing where the source is is already enough for information to be spread and shared widely. But if it is taken away then as I said it will go to the underground and then a price tag can be put on it.

Im not sure ordinary people have ever used the torrent network. There is still a large portion of the older population that uses physical dvds from services like redbox. The younger generation knows to just google stuff, including torrent downloads.

Really though, anymore, I normally only just use torrents for stuff I can't get from the standard content providers. I pay for netflix(which sux now-a-days), amazon prime, and hulu. And on occasion will have an nbc/abc whatever network app to watch shows.

Yes, I get stuck watching comercials but it is just easier most times to go this route. Though more and more content gets added to these "legit" sites, The fact that I have to download anything at all proves that the networks still don't quite get it.

My pattern is to binge watch a season. Just did that for mr robot, but the stupid fuckers only put season 1 online, so torrents make up the difference, and my information comes from a different source.  Fail for them, win for me.

It has always been my hope that the networks would embrace the torrent technology, but then again, the networks are made of old people that still probably only use redbox.

Zeronet play seems to work just fine. I picked a movie at random and copied the magnetic link and its downloading no problem.

In fact PLAY has one of the nicest user interfaces I've seen for a torrent site.

A quick browse from ZeroHello ( https://proxy1.zn.kindlyfire.me/1HeLLo4uzjaLetFx6NH3PMwFP3qbRbTf3D )

and I was able to get to zerotorrent. Here is what the interface looks like

So far so good. I'm testing a torrent dl for research purposes. Ok magnet link seems to be working, found a few peers and is downloading.

So to recap. I just pulled a torrent off of a zeronet webpage called zerotorrent through a proxy site via above. lol neat

Edit.
Yes I'm using live linux mint

Hmm zeronet play might not be working. Anyone use this?

-Neither the backend nor the database have been released.. so not really.
Use Play on zeronet.
-Play seems dead but it still lists a lot
-Well as of right now the only place with the kickasstorrent database with most of there tv & movie database is in popcorn time & popcorn time ce api. Plus it also still updating tv shows from eztv.

Unfortunately I can't get to a .bit domain to check this out. Anyone try it?

I would recommend ZeroTorrent.bit there is a pretty active community.

Apparently I'm not the only one to ask this info

If you haven't heard of it, Zeronet is a decentralized web client where the people visiting Zeronet sites help share and host them. There's no central servers that can be taken down, and no way to seize domains short of obtaining the keys from the owner. And even if a site is taken over, people can easily clone it and make it their own.

Currently there are two fairly functional torrent sites on Zeronet,

PlayMovies.bit - a simple site with a nice UI that lets you browse and search a curated list of movie torrents.

ZeroTorrent.bit - A torrent site populated using user submissions. Anybody can add torrents, with searching, upvoting, and user comment features.

Has anybody tried these, and if so, what are your current opinions on their state and potential?

What about a steem clone on zeronet? What do you think about that anonymint?

It can possibly be used as another option for serving blockchain content, but it doesn't provide the consensus algorithm.

It would not be a good focus for me to investigate that now. It is not a core issue for demonstrating an improvement over Steem in the sense of what will attract the masses, i.e. it is a lower priority diversion that pertains to decentralization, censorship-resistance, and scaling issues. Reliability would be a big concern to be investigated. Also they are apparently an early stage project, so leveraging that now would presumably add a lot of bugs and growing pains.

Since the defeat of kickass, has anyone tried to use zeronet, in particular zeronet play or zerotorrent.bit?

ZeroNet uses  BitTorrent network plus Bitcoin cryptography and but not exclusively Namecoin .bit Domains

As of 2016 there is no way to take down a ZeroNet page which still has seeders, thus making such pages immune to DMCA takedown notices. In March 2016 it operated with a max-filesize per website of 10 megabytes, suitable for blogs, forums, and smaller torrent-sites.
