A documentary I watched showed that many Zimbabweans are using gold as their currency. Trading in small bits of gold, weighed in the market. The people go into these holes and dig for gold to survive.

yeah definitely, all over africa. official banking regulations are very strict. eg i think in some countries you're not allowed to send more than $5,000 or so offshore per YEAR.

that includes buying from amazon or whatever.

I imagine this is a particularly big issue in Nigeria also.

'most' is completely irrelevant to my purpose. because i know that not ALL zw are poor.

i know for a fact that many are interested in purchasing X merchandise from Y website, yet are having trouble with it simply because of payment issues.

if i can help these people get their hands on some bitcoins, that will resolve the current brickwall they're up against.

Maybe you should learn how to use google to find out some basic truth. Zimbabwean people is very poor. Most of them are in very urgent trouble right now. They won't use bitcoin.

Bitcoin is for the people who have extra fiat money to invest or save or try something creative. If you were not sure about where you can feed yourself tomorrow, you of course will not spend any of your time on such new, uncertain and niche virtual currencies. Buy some bitcoin with the last 50 bucks in your pocket which might be spend on some food? you're kidding me...

Someone asked on this forum that why Occupying Wall Street movement does not embrace bitcoin now. I think the reason is very simple: most of the people do not have extra money to have bitcoin. I'm not in America but from what I get from the internet, some people were forced to leave their houses and live on the street, because they cannot pay the mortgage they take on when the house price is bubble. They now live in tents. Sometimes they cannot have money to buy food.

If you don't give them some bitcoin, they won't buy bitcoin, because they need buy food.

Oh wait, even if you're generous enough to give them some free bitcoin, but they're now living in the tent and worry about the food, I guess they don't have a lap-top or smart cell-phone...

i'm still curious what currency is most common there, not for someone dirt poor, but for someone who could afford to spend say $200 on the net but lacks the direct means to do so (no credit card, no bank acc, etc).

@payb.tc: I really doubt you will find any people from Zimbabwe on these forums as freedom (especially the freedom to use any media you want to inform yourself) isn't such a big fashion in Bobby's country.

bitcoin depends on the people who are smart and have excess money.
Zimbabwean people is poor. they cannot do anything good for bitcoin.
