I didn't open your link but I agree we need more blockchain SM as substitute for Facebook, Youtube and Instagram. Might take some time for them to take off even they are just as good and the big companies don't try to kill them though, it'll be hard to wean off most people from the apps they are used to. As I see now, most people asking for alternatives are those people that are being censored by these tech giants. The majority don't have this problem - yet - so just drift along.

Libra might control and they should be stopped. A monetary system should not be one which is controlled by Libra. But the monetary system being protected right now is the total opposite of 'available to all' 'and without any governing body.'

I think their issue is that they are afraid that the current censorship problem we see with social media would be also applied to Libra being that FB owns it. I believe a few month's ago there was a issue with a bank freezing the accounts of vocal right-wingers so it wouldn't be far-fetched that the same can happen here.

Of course fiat is no better but if you have your physical money with you there's not a lot of ways they can make you part with it.

No one is going to use this, lets stop trying to act like people would ever use facebook, instagram, etc on the blockchain unless it had a great UI. Which it probably wouldn't.

Most people want this because of censorship, but at a certain point in growth for any community there's going to be censorship to please the advertisers -- as you do have to pay for server costs, design, and so on and so forth.

So, yeah.

They just made fun of Zuckerberg saying the one who sold private info of its user is now going to make a cryptocoin for financial freedom. Facebook has faced severe cases of Privacy infringement and is surely a bad example of a company to start a global cryptocurrency.

While the US is busy criticizing, scrutinizing the Lobra project China is fast tracking their  blockchain adoption. I think, government is making recommendation and be supportive of projects of course by safeguarding the users here. Its a great help if government, the one using ang utilizing this technology because many will follow here.

China is doing this to effect total, absolute control over their population.

Wake up.

Earlier today, Facebook CEO -Mark Zuckerberg had another face off section with the US senate over the Libra project https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-50152062. Quite tough indeed. I am quite sure the young dude had several rehearsals brainstorming what might possibly come out from the congress woman, Lol. But he did well after all.

Arguments in every of my groups today as some said it is absolutely a political propaganda and some relating it backward as facebook played a huge part negatively in the past US presidential election. That you can as well get more information from #TheGreatHack by Netflix. The senate is of the emphasis that Libra would stage to harbour financial crime and unscrupulous behavior from the users. Follow link to see full gist.

I am forced to think of blockchain technology as a solution to this mess faced by the young billionaire. VID as an example is a video centric social media that uses blockchain technology and protocol to avoid such issues as Mark's. Using ZERO KNOWLEDGE PROTOCOL is one thing that makes it unique. See more info https://vid.camera.

I am yet to agree that US is trying to tame Mark Zuckerberg. I think it is normal trying to defend in the interest of the world.

Libra is an attempt at total control of the population using Facebook.

FB should be broken up, not expanded. Far better, to not even allow it.

Crypto currency should be open and "owned" by no one. Not Google, not Apple, not Facebook. A money system should be available to all, and without any governing body.

But unfortunately one of the coins that are very much centralized like Ripple is very much on top of their games, I hope the congress that investigates Libra Coin is very much well informed about Cryptocurrency and blockchain, Libra Coin is a big opposite on what we want to accomplish here in the community, this is the reason we aren't supportive of this cause.
It's better that they invite people who are experts on blockchain and prominent people here, so they will see the two sides of the coin, or a different perspective on what libra Coin is trying to accomplish.

The story is funny though. The government is the one that is really trying to control everyone and everything to the point that freedom is curtailed and killed in the process. And now, in the name of the people whose freedom they kill, they are also killing Libra.

To me, Libra is another form of government. An indirect government popping up. After reading about it, its obvious Mark doesn't intent it for decentralization which is what should differentiate it from those dudes hanging in government but nay it ain't, hence i think it attracts the attention of the US gov.t cos it carries element of government.

Most people say same thing as yours. It means Mark has an ulterior motive but i also think he's got some political backings with the steps he takes cos he is quite confident about what he does without considering the resultant effect on the populace.

Lets phrase this a different way then.

Would you rather the government have control over the monetary supply -- through the federal reserve -- or would you rather one corporation, under the scrutiny of the government, have the ability to open their own new currency?

I think its funny watching the government scrutinize Zuckerberg for what he wants to do -- when his whole plan is like a Venmo/Cashapp without using USD. Just a currency that is backed by USD.

His plan is for a currency which knows you, your spending habits, and your geo-location, your friends, everything, owned by a company that is for profit, which has shown a preference for political leaders like Hillary Clinton.

The disclosure of those information actually depends on the fb user. If he is posting his every movement, then, that network will have all the info of your life. But if you are limiting your exposure to this social media, then I don't think they will get so much info or your private life.
But yes, FB is really gaining a lot of profit from those users who don't know when to stop divulging the details of their lives.

Start the software small, innocent looking, innocuous, and of course free. Grow the user base. Then update it and slowly change it. Start drifting it toward your goal set. Get it to the point you want, two or three years later.

Sound familiar?

Block chains are not a fix all solution to every problem man has...  Completely unmoderated SM will of course end up being abused for profit or agenda's etc.  A censor resistant, borderless block chain SM will end up being a steaming pile of shit like 8chan or steemit by design.

Not only that, but why/what incentive does a private company have to even use a public blockchain?

Answer: They don't even want it. That's letting the miners have the profit. And they won't do that. They'll have the chain in the existing company servers, same old top down management of the past.

I mean we all know the reason that anyone would want to operate a global currency like this. It would be so they'd be able to make the interest on the money that is beind held on the platform.

Lets just say they have $10 in reserves and invest it in US treasury bonds -- which is probably all they'd be allowed to do within regulatory issues. So they'd be making about 300m a year on people holding their money and transacting on the network as everything would be onboarded with peoples USD. Sounds nice right?

Where did you get that idea?

Re think that as motive. Consider a currency that geo-locates you, knows your habits better than you, and knows all your friends and associates.

Taking a simple binary case, you and your friends are split into believers in political party A and B. It's Saturday. You are undecided on A and B. Various of your friends are out and about. FB favors B.

Friends (B) 11,13,15 receive notes for a discount on Starbucks, a location half way between where you and they are. 11 goes, then 13 and 15 get a note he's there. As do you. Friends (A) 2,7,9 are closeby, but get a prompt from FB of a sale at the mall in the other direction.

You spend part of your Saturday chatting with (B) people.

Mark Zuckerberg is at the forefront of the crypto sector simply due to the fact he's tackling the adoption issues head on.
Facebook is a becoming a bigger and better platform overtime. They already own a bunch of other social media platforms that currently dominate the market, Occulus, Whats App, and the most popular one of all, Instagram.

But all of the data that is scraped can be done through scraping data from Venmo, Casapp, Zelle, Paypal and so on and so forth. That's something that all of these companies know about.

What's the issue with having another company step into the ring to bring in some competition?s
They don't have anything like the data FB has on most people.
