Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!
Expect that most of the countries and exchanges will be delisting XMR. This has been ongoing for years and there's no way that these exchanges want to sacrifice their business for XMR. This is actually sad to see that the best privacy coin is being collaboratively clamped down by different governments of countries.  Lips sealed

Don't forget to fuck the system

The system that we've once trusted in but they're the one that's also taking back our trust on them.  Lips sealed
Why they're too afraid about monero and any other privacy matters? Fiat is also used for those reasons that they might say about the crack down.

What about other EU countries, will XMR still be available on kraken?

If I am not wrong, XMR will be "banned" in EU when MiCA regulation will be fully launched
It's not MiCA regulation which is problematic for Monero, but the recent update of the AML directive, which has been approved by EU Parliament but there are still some steps left. However, this directive will come into force in 2027, so it should not be the reason for these delistings. It also does not include a Monero ban, but a prohibition for (commercial, i.e. profit-taking) crypto asset service providers (CASPs, e.g. exchanges) to provide accounts which allow the obfuscation of transactions, including through "anonymity-enhancing coins". (I have doubts if this prohibits Monero accounts for EU CASPs or only non-KYC Monero accounts).

The German delisting on Kraken could be however related to MiCa: MiCa requires the CASPs serving european clients to register in the EU. So Kraken is probably forced to find EU partners with EU licenses if they don't want to open an office in Europe themselves and register for a license, and the German EU partner (DLT Finance) probably preventively, to comply already with AMLD, insisted on delisting Monero.

(slightly OT: What was a bit of a surprise for me that Kraken also will delist some other popular tokens which have nothing to do with privacy, like Optimism. It could however related that these tokens have not provided the required "whitepaper"; all centralized cryptocurrencies have to provide a whitepaper and this is indeed a MiCa requirement, which will come in force in various steps still this year).

Also Kraken Germany is delisting XMR. Looks like moving into the "then they fight you" stage of things...

I just learned on the forum that LocalMonero and Agoradesk are closing guys  Undecided

LocalMonero / AgoraDesk will be winding down it's operations
Published: 2024-05-07
Hey everyone,

After almost 7 years of operation, due to a combination of internal and external factors, we have made the difficult decision to close our platform.

We're extremely thankful for the love and support we've received over the years. We couldn't have done it without you. We love you all ♥

LocalMonero has been around for most of Monero's life. Fortunately, the Monero ecosystem has matured a lot over these years, and with the imminent launch of Haveno and other DEXs like Serai, atomic swaps, the coming addition of FCMP (full blockchain anonymity set replacing rings of 16) as well as the continuing and rapidly accelerating development of the Monero protocol, we're confident that Monero's future is bright, with or without our platform.

The winding-down process begins today, and finishes 6 months from now. Our support staff will be available for help throughout this period.

Effective immediately, all new signups and ad postings are disabled;
One week from now, on May 14th, 2024, new trades will be disabled as well;
6 months from now, on November 7th, 2024, the website will be taken down. Please reclaim any funds from your arbitration bond wallet prior to that date, otherwise the funds may be considered abandoned/forfeited.

Kraken powered by DLT Finance Asset Support

    The exact service start and other dates may vary. Clients will be contacted with confirmation of the dates.

Kraken powered by DLT Finance will support a slightly reduced set of assets and Opt-in Rewards services. Clients holding the following unsupported assets are advised to either exchange these assets to a supported asset (e.g. Bitcoin or Euro) or withdraw to an external wallet or platform before July 10, 2024.
Verified clients’ unsupported assets, if not actioned before July 10, 2024, will be set to withdrawal-only mode and unstaked or opted-out, if applicable. Supported assets, which are currently Staked with Kraken, will be migrated to the Opt-in Rewards program.

You Germans get your coins out of there.

Luke Parker aka kayabanerve is working to bring full chain membership proofs to XMR. This is super exciting! Please consider donating:
https://repo.getmonero.org/monero-project/ccs-proposals/-/blob/master/fcmp++-development.md?ref_type=heads

I have concerns that if this is implemented that it would give adversarial governments the tools to pass laws to force view key registration under kyc laws.

Little late for that now, but also, fuck the system.

So I've run the daemon the other day to sync it after a long time (months) and it kept getting visited by the OOM killer. I had 2 GB ram on that machine and after increasing to 4GB that stopped.
What is the current minimum amount of ram necessary for monerod these days?

It is over 2 GB for sure, but if you have SSD at least can probably get away with swap on ssd
