Yes, it is true that working in the government is the dream of many people in various countries, with a fairly stable income and having a pension fund, many people are hunting to get it. With the situation the country is facing like Covid yesterday, working in the government means that people don't panic and there will be no dismissals.

It's different from working in a private company, someone must think about the impact on their fate of continuing to work at the company or the company management to terminate their employment relationship, if the company's finances continue to decline. If you still survive until the specified age, what you say is true, even though you get pension funds, it makes people think quickly about managing their money when they receive the pension funds if we no longer work at the company.

Depends on the context of your country and it's economy, to be honest.
There are countries where people would rather to work for a private company and others where a work with the government is more appealing.

I have received some offers from both, but it is very situational what you will choose here in this country. Private companies offer a better salary, but their schedules are very grinding and can mess with the health of people. Government jobs tend to be more lax, pay less but you got more time to do your own things.

Depending on what  our needs are, we will end up choosing one.

Also, I have always wondered who good is to work for the government in countries like the United States and Europe. I assume salaries are better than average.

As you said, it depends on the context of the country, and answering your question, in Spain, and I think that in Europe in general, the average salary working for the Government is much higher in almost all levels (except for Chiefs, due to do the imbalance in the private sector because of greed, and the vocation of public service in the public sector).

Of course, there are exceptions, but functionaries are known in general to have a better quality of life. That's why some of the most prepared ones study for months or years for the official exam, and that's why it's said that access to these jobs is based on merit and capacity, and not on how you present yourself, as the OP said very well for the private companies.

Government jobs are the best especially the salaries are high compared to private but that's not always the case because, in some other parts of the world, private companies are giving more money and some good benefits to their employees. Here in our country, you don't want to be working in the private sector because you will end up regretting it to the point you will not last longer than 3 months. that's why most of us choose to be businessmen instead of becoming slaves to those companies.

As they said, government job is better compare to private job because it is permanent and pensionable and the job is more secured. Though private job too some are pensionable but not permanent and not that secured. And again in private job, you have the opportunity to let them know how much you want to be paid. You can either be paid higher or lower base on how you present yourself.

Which one do you prefer if you are given an offer?

I prefer working for the government. I accept that government pay are low, but we cannot compare them to private jobs because the government provides the security and is permanently pensionable, and is more secure. Just that private jobs paid more than government jobs but still depended on position, there are some sectors where you won't even receive peace of mind and they will pay you less without freedom, and you can be fired at any time. He simply stated that some people apply for private jobs since they have no other options.

You are correct in regards of the uncertainty of private jobs. It is easier to get fired because of minors situations or even because of the whim of your boss. Also, working hours can be harsher when compared to government jobs. Your boss in a private company reserves the right to call you at any time to ask you to do something from your computer or send a document to him (it is something which has personally happened to me).

For a first time job, I would suggest professionals to try first a job with the government, before jumping onto a private company. It can also help to accumulate experience and curriculum.

From what you've given it's like government job was the highlighted one that will be favored to. TBH I'm not into government job but for me there are lot of advantageous things when you're into private job but what's the most advantageous is having you as the boss like having a business. Though it's risky, it's worth it as well if you know what you're venturing. I'm into the latter and I will pursue it.

And another thing is they're easier than the corporate and private jobs.

It's true because in government jobs, there's a certain allocation that's given to post and the increase will vary if the budget allocated will also increase.

But many have learned with the private sectors and jobs there that even they say that you're in a permanent position, this past years through pandemic have taught us that jobs aren't permanent.

Which one do you prefer if you are given an offer?
These days, many are choosing to get into side hustles because you own your time and you can do much within 24 hours unlike with government and private jobs that you're tied to work 8 A.M to 5 P.M. or any timeframe for that 9 hour schedule for job of yours.

IMO, as long as it brings food to the table and you love what you're doing then that's more important to choose. Because when you love your job regardless if it's from a private company or from the government, nothing beats being happy while working and there's no toxicity.

Private jobs pay more, but goverment job is more stable. The best probably would be day work at government, and then private job, for example, Bitcointalk forum moderator at evenings.

This is funny. Is bitcointalk forum moderator as evening job? I mean you don't really have to classify it as job except maybe for side job because moderators would have other diversified source of income. But meanwhile, I don't think private jobs don't pay more than government jobs. I consider business more lucrative than being either of the employees.

It depends.
What job you want? Do you have a degree on something or are you experienced in something specific? I mean what are your skills?

If you prefer security, i would say a government job unless you negotiate yourself a good job in private sector and you are an union member. Benefits on governement is giving are probably way easier to get then from private sector. But if you want to go somewhere with your career, your changes with private sector are higher. It's no guarantee of anything and you might not get a promoton ever in there either.

Also i am assuming you are from USA as in some countries even private sector has to offer way better benefits than in USA for example. At the moment in my country i would take a governent job as future looks more bleak.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this one; it really comes down to the benefits and how secure you feel while working. For most of us, it's all about that steady salary because, let's face it, no one wants to work until the end of time. We all have dreams of retiring when the time is right, and we want to make sure we get the perks we've earned.

Speaking of stability, I'd place my bet on the government jobs. They're not likely to go bankrupt anytime soon since they rely on taxes from the people. It's a different story in the private sector, where things can get a bit wobbly when the economy takes a decline.

Which one do you prefer if you are given an offer?
The one that hires me for my skill, the one that pays more.

And this is 2023, do you still believe that any job is permanent?

Nope.

Government jobs provide more stability, job security& benefits. Private jobs tend to offer more flexibility, higher potential for growth & innovation also potentially higher salaries. The choice depends on individual preferences, career goals & your personal circumstances. It's important to consider factors such as work life balance, job satisfaction, career advancement opportunities&personal values when deciding between the two.

To myself, a government job comes with numerous advantages that will compel me to accept it and not consider alternatives. As you mentioned, government work is pensionable, and it also provides high job security, as opposed to private work, where you can be sacked at any time. I'm not sure, but perhaps in some regions of the world, private work will be preferred over government job. As long as there is no job security, I will not accept it as my only and only alternative source of income.

The fact that government job give me more time to do other things I will prefer it to private job and just like others mentioned,  a private job may offer more payment but then the suck up all your time and stress you out on daily and this have made private job not appealing to many most especially those in the age between 50+ years who need more time and rest to put they health in shape.

I hard an experienced with private job for 3 years immediately after I graduated from the university and that hard a lot of impact on me even though I have left the company long ago,  so I do prefer to work for the government since it gives me time to do other things that are beneficial to my finances and health and government staffs have a lot of leaves and vocations to enjoy with loads of other. Benefits.

If I had to choose between a government job and a private job, I would chose a government job.
I'll start by explaining why I would rather have a government job than a private sector.
1. Job security: In the private sector, it's possible to get fired at any moment without a good reason, but it's more difficult to get fired from a government job without going through a duo processes.

2. Time-consuming: While working for the government gives you the time to pursue other enterprises, working for a private sector forces you to concentrate solely on the job offer.

3. Salary payment: In a government job, you are paid when it's due; in a private employment, the employer selects when to pay you.

4. Line of duty: In a government job, every employee is aware of the type of work that they are responsible for performing, but in a private employment, you can be given any given task or demoted to any level against your will. If you're not good at that, you leave the position that was provided to you.

Which one do you prefer if you are given an offer?
Depending on the kind of Job, some private companies can offer you a salary structure that can set you up for life without you needing pension. But if it is a regular paying private company, a government job will be more suitable for me, because you have to consider the job security where you may be required to work till retirement age, also the flexibility of the job because government jobs will not require extra from you as private companies would, plus the pension afterwards.

I would prefer to work in the private sector because they are open to new ideas and embrace innovation. Most public setups suffer from bureaucratic bottlenecks that hamper positive changes. Most government establishments operate on laid down rules that are very difficult to change. In a private organisation, your ideas will be accepted and appreciated but in public firms, the process of policy-making is centralised making employee input difficult. Reward in private organisations is mainly based on the input or performance of employees but public organisation focuses on seniority based year of service. Public firms usually promote workers based on how long they have been in the organisation instead of using their positive impact or contribution.

everyone has different views but I was never interested in working in the government, I saw that even though you get a stable salary, working in the government is difficult to get rich, you have to have other side businesses to get rich besides that is what people think when they see a government employee those who are rich are also very bad, they will definitely think that person is corrupt.

I think also that there are now some level of wanting to be independent by many people instead of working in government and you only depend on salary and hope for pension at old age and sometimes that pension is not paid in some countries because of corruption.

Youths have considered labouring with their strength while young instead of waiting to tell same stories their fathers told them for not getting rich because they depended on salary job by the government. It is therefore better to begin a personal business even if you still get government jobs and that was the mistakes the old people did, to rely on just one stream of income, no body gets financially comfortable or rich with that.

Which one do you prefer if you are given an offer?
In my country any private job that pays less than the government is a small company and it is in an interior place not in the city. There are good private jobs that pays much higher than government jobs and they will take proper care of you and till you retire. They will even pay your gratitude and every other bonuses. Most government work don't have bonus, you are to depend only on your salary. If the government wants to employ me based on my skill and area of specialization.

I will prefer a private company instead of them, because private companies pay higher than the government and you can be given a car and a house to stay in, if your input to the company is great. Government don't care about this, because they are not there to see how hard working that you are. It is only your colleagues that will see this.
