How did these accounts come about? Is there any possibility in the future of Dropbox deleting them?

Great questions! I will try my best to answer your questions below:
How did these accounts come about?
These accounts started off as the usual 2GB free ones you get when you sign up. Using the dropbox referral program and other promotions we earn an additional 19GB of free space on each account. This brings the total size of each account to 21GB.
Is there any possibility in the future of Dropbox deleting them?
Dropbox has never deleted any of our accounts. As long as your not using them for illegal file sharing you should be fine. However there still is the possibility that in the future Dropbox might delete them. I believe they won't do this because Dropbox is competing with a lot of other online storage providers. If they started to delete accounts they would be bound to make mistakes due to their massive user base. This would cause many Dropbox users to complain and create bad PR for Dropbox.
