Decentralized Content Distribution
September 05, 2016, 05:55:02 AM
According to Tibor Tarábek (founder of subsidiary of Microsoft Corp. in Slovakia) DECENT has the potential to become "the next big thing within data distribution processes worldwide.”

My apologies if this has already been addressed, but after several reads of the distribution shown on the first page of this announcement, I remain confused. Any help answering the questions in the image below is appreciated.

You are right, something about the coin issuance is a bit confusing.

Quoting OP: DCT sold in the September Software sale will be 70% of the total DCT distributed. Part of this will be also pre-mine funds that will be distributed in following way [...]

"This" in "Part of this" is an anaphor referring back to the predicate phrase "70% of the total DCT distributed", to be grammatically correct. I think the OP editor meant it to refer to the prepositional phrase subpart "total DCT distributed". This error is a case of unclear pronoun reference (ungrammatical in formal English) and is the reason why people are so confused, and rightly so.

The phrase "Part of this" would be better replaced by something like "The remaining 30%". No need to add the phrase "will be also premine funds that" as it is totally redundant here. Everyone knows the 70% will be a premine, much as they do the 30% since neither PoS nor PoW was mentioned anywhere on the OP. My 2 DCT.

Hey where do we submit our blog url if we publish an article about decent's ICO?
Would like to acquire some bounties for this as well. My articles are going to be distributed as well to the bitcoin related facebook groups and on reddit as well.

There is no blog bounty.

Hi, it stated that DECENT is based on modified bittorrent protocol.

Is there a connection/relation between DECENT and Ethereum? Maybe something like ethereum platform is used to creating DECENT platform.

Is DECENT POS mining open for everyone with wallet, or just for publishers?

Just wanted to clarify.

DECENT Data Distribution Layer is currently based on modified Bittorrent protocol. We are going to integrate various data distribution protocols in one of our milestones depicted in our DECENT Development  Plan.

Ethereum is a Turing complete smart contracts programming platform.
DECENT is a decentralised content distribution platform coming with predefined smart contracts and APIs.

DECENT is not using Ethereum, as this choice could introduce unnecessary bottlenecks in the system. We are focusing on real world applications with millions of users that would benefit from blockchain technologies, such as decentralised Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, Steam, iTunes and much more.

Check out DECENT Video for more details.

DECENT uses a PoC - Proof of Custody algorithm further described in DECENT Whitepaper and DECENT Yellowpaper where this is described more in detail.

As DECENT Network is an open protocol, there are literally no limits of its use.

Thank you for clarification. Will be supporting this project. Keep up the good works!

Thanks, DECENT is on its track to disrupt the world of content distribution.

I understand the software is not ready yet, but are there going to be any limits of transactions per second ?
I think bitcoin has around 7 tr/s, other currencies state over 100/s, so what about DECENT ?

We are planning to be much, much over this number. Visa and Mastercard currently need to process a few thousands of transactions per second. Try to imagine that they are replaced by Bitcoin. This would literally cause btc to crash, as it can process only ~7 tps. It's a similar case with Ethereum...

More details about the dev progress and our tps numbers will come out soon.

Thanks for addressing the question asked several pages ago.

"explicitly illegitimate content will be filtered at the level of gateways that would be under control of our organisations."

Can you elaborate? what do you mean by "our organisations?" who would "they" be, and how would "they" decide what is illegitimate? either this is decentralized or it's not, there isn't an in-between.
I wish you would address the issues of copyright infringement as well as whether or not there will be filtering of uploading untolerable things like child porn and snuff videos here, I wasn't at any of your conferences.

Sure. I mean the organisations under control of DECENT Foundation or similar entities. We all live in a legal system and we have to follow its rules. DECENT Network is a fully decentralised system, but not all the gateways and apps running on top of it are. For instance, a website that would run on top of DECENT is a centralised gateway running on top of DECENT Network. This is where the content would be filtered.

I would suggest to check out DECENT Whitepaper and our blog, where you can find more examples of apps running on top of DECENT Network.

So a person couldn't upload to the Decent network without going through one of these centralized gateways? how is this a decentralized platform then???

Not all gateways are centralised. DECENT Network is fully decentralised. Some of the gateways are centralised though.

Nevertheless, I would suggest to point your attention to
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.16145762

where it has already been stated, namely:

"DECENT Network is a fully decentralised system, but not all the gateways and apps running on top of it are."

Similarly, this kind of question has already been answered in this thread and beyond a couple of times.

I believe that checking out DECENT Whitepaper, DECENT Yellowpaper, DECENT Prototype Demo Video, DECENT Video and our web will give you more insights into this.

Hi

Im sure this probably answered some where.... but

could you please tell me do we earn more bounties for twitter retweets/likes  and facebook likes?

thanks

Actually no. Everybody get one stake each for twitter and facebook like.
However, if you really like this project and want to support it please help them RT or shared their stories from their facebook page.

what to do ? do i need to just follow Decent on Facebook?

Like their page. Post this "I am joining DECENT Bounty Campaign. http://sale.decent.ch/" on your time line. Don't forget to tag them then you are done.
https://www.facebook.com/DECENTplatform

I thought the instructions were to like their group. We have to add that? I just added their group in my likes, and then like their posts.

When will we be able to trade this? Are there plans to trade this prerelease?

I have just read a few comments back and indeed it would seem that trading should start in Q1 2017.

Q1 2017 is the estimated date of mainnet launch. You can start trading after the launch.
