These works are just part of a whole currency series I have coming up using original Bank Notes from around the world, from the Cayman Islands, Zimbabwe to the ECB issued EURO (old versions...)
Over time as more are released it will all fit together as a commentary on Fiat and the cash issues around the world.
As for the Zimbabwe dollar, you're right, there are numerous artists around the world that have been using it to comment on either global or local currency issues. Valentina Picozzi is one of the more visible artists using the design, in fact her latest one with the micro painters is quite cool
One of my current works (in progress) around Hyper Inflation
RBZ Banknotes under an Acrylic, laser cut overlay. Cutout in the shape of the Nation of Zimbabwe.
uses all 27 notes, all original RBZ issued currency, worth a grand total of 78 US cents at the time of issue, .... which is on a QR code on the back of the piece. This one will compliment two other pieces, one made of German 1923 HI bank notes ( all original!!) and the French 1796 Assignats (again, all original and antiques!!) ... an event recognised as the "first HI" event ....
so you see how currency is used through out artistic endeavours through time .....

Just as an added note: Artists have regularly, through time, used their national currency as the butt of their jokes. The dollar bill being a regular victim to the lampooning... 12 Funniest Things Ever Written On US Money - http://dailygreatest.com/funny/12-funniest-things-ever-written-on-us-money/
