I doubt running Bitcointalk is that resource intensive.
I think you could be very wrong here Shocked This topic has 192 views, this page is 176 kB in size. Most data is created on the fly.
I'm no expert, but I expect there's quite some server power behind it.

I somehow got in a possession of a picture of theymos in the server room dealing with DDoS attacks on a Layer1.

Sorry for the off topic, feel free to report it. I could stop myself.

I think it's on AWS.

If that's the case, then it does partially run on renewable energy.

AWS exceeded 50% renewable energy usage for 2018.

I doubt running Bitcointalk is that resource intensive. Heck, it's one of the only websites that will actually load for me when my data is gone and I'm put on smallband Tongue

Yeah, I'm aware I was only kidding with a bit of Human Rights drama. The only hardware that it's sole porpuse is to be used for the forum would be the server; in case theymos has one at home/bunker/safe location. I don't think anyone buys a phone/desktop/laptop just to access BTT, so we are going a bit off-topic if we start taking into account the electricity/carbon fingerprint (I believe it's said that way in English?) that users spend while accessing the forum

Don't forget that many users only access the forum from their mobile phones, which puts some kind of electricity consumption balance I guess.
It will be interesting to see some statistics how many people read the forum from their mobile devices. I know theymos will not keep such information but.. I'm mostly on mobile, during working hours I'm using TOR Smiley

And all the pollution and child labor that goes in the mines where the main metals of which batteries and motherboards are extracted (and made) from

I understand your point but I don't think people buy electronics with the sole purpose to read the bitcointalk (actually some bounty/signature campaign abusers maybe doing it, but don't think this is on that big scale to be considered). Here we discuss only forum related aspects of efficiency/consumption.

this forum isn't using that much resources probably that we would need to worry. It's not something like amounts of electricity used for Bitcoin mining in total.
A better comparison would probably be comparing it to the electricity consumed by forum users directly: a desktop computer consumes many times more energy than a webserver needs to load a few pages.
So if you're worried about "eco", turn off your computer Tongue

Only theymos can answer this question. But I doubt that Bitcointalk can be called as eco friendly website. And it's not a problem, because this forum isn't using that much resources probably that we would need to worry. It's not something like amounts of electricity used for Bitcoin mining in total. For example, Bitcoin mining consume more electricity per year more than Denmark. But good thing that most of Bitcoin miners using renewable sources of electricity.

I think it's on AWS.

Managing your own hardware and constantly updating security features is hardly a useful expenditure of time, and financially it's almost a wash.  Contributing to Jeff Bezos' wealth really is the best way to go.

I'm doing my part, pedaling as fast as I can.

Taking a look back at some other threads discussing the hosting situation its just stated "theymos hosts it" which I'm not sure whether to take literally, and assume he's physically hosting it or if its hosted via a service. Almost all hosting providers I know of don't have renewable energy though.

I think it's on AWS.

Bet he has a little uranium reactor in his garden Wink Clean and with a very low chance of getting a power cut/shortage

I've heard that they can cope with LoyceV's, and DdmrDdmr scripts so I'm sure the forum would be no problem to run off of them.

I guess you're asking if the servers are run on a renewable energy right? Probably not, and pretty sure that the servers impact on the environment is very little, and we should probably be more worried about the cow farting all day along! Theymos hosts the servers I believe, but I doubt its through renewable energy.

how is this forum running from an ecological point of view?
Google Dictionary:
Quote
ecology
the branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.
Quote
forum
a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
Unless you're meeting someone in a forest, I'd say those two have nothing to do with each other.
