I also believe that some "clever bruter" could be written, however considering the amount of prize it is pointless for the majority of programmers.

nah, 144 bits is still too huge to write any kind of brute force for it. even if it is reduced to a small size with your fifth hint or some other "clever" moves like having multiple points side by side for different parts of the "face".

Nice puzzle but I guess it's going to be difficult for a lot of users to win the prize  Cheesy but its fun.

I'm not sure if its a monster because its looks like a monkey  Grin.

As for the clue - I will give one more the next Sunday.

Thank you for your interest!

Although the puzzle prize is 0.01BTC I want to attract more newbies to try it. First of all they could understand that the private key is just a number, and can examine the bitcoin address generation process.
Playing with the tool also could be funny for some people.

I also believe that some "clever bruter" could be written, however considering the amount of prize it is pointless for the majority of programmers.

I decreased the search space from 256bit down to 144bit (orange space). The uknown space even less as the monster does not touch (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) the green border.

Not so long ago I discussed with two independent bitcoin miners that the private key is just a number. They argued that it was wrong, and that bitcoin wallets were secured with 2-factor authentication connected to their cell phones, so knowing the private key number was no enough  Grin
If you have somebody in your environment you want better understand the bitcoin private key - share this puzzle challenge with them. Let them try, learn and play.

As for the clue - I will give one more the next Sunday.

I wonder how many potential combinations there are to solve it?
Assuming symmetry, and assuming not touching the green boarders by a "diagonal" pixel: 288230376151711744 combinations.

Wanted to try to bruteforce but 2^144 still seems pretty high, isn't it?

This is fun indeed, here's my first try:
Image loading...

I'm afraid there are far too many possibilities to test though, and drawing monsters isn't something I can brute-force at more than one per minute Tongue

Thanks for the puzzle, this is pretty fun. I feel like a hint as to the facial expression of the monster (if applicable that is) would also be nice. As it is guessing the monster, drawing it correctly, and guessing the facial expression is such a big search space.

Although I guess you're probably curious how long it will take people to guess it with the minimum info provided, I can appreciate that.

I did some attempts, none of them was good. It was fun though.
This is one of my results  Grin

PS. You could give clues if the monster is symmetrical or not and also if it has more green or more white.

After creating visual private key generator https://btckeygen.com I received some donations, and decided to transfer 0.01BTC from them to new created puzzle address.

The purpose is to teach more people what is the private key, and of course to have some fun.
The 0.01BTC prize transaction: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/509e6b40be125e0ab1e4f4a1b4a591a37eb2b352a082ff84d5cebd1928395f52

The puzzle address: 1JAsB7Nx5zyYW3MZWKJq5UmhFHJ6RWagQY

Here is the border pattern used in private key generation:

You should "draw" a monster within the orange space.

Some hints:
1) Green cell is "1" bit, white cell is "0" bit. Orange is unknown space, you should fill it by green or white.
2) I did not invent the monster image by myself, however also not sure if the exact copy exist somewhere.
3) Do not change the green border of the provided pattern - it is part of the private key.
4) The monster is located within orange square (so, only 12*12=144 unknown bits to find)
5) The monster does not touch green borders

To solve this puzzle you do not need any special programming skills or technical knowledge. The only thing you need is to import the found private key to your wallet and make the transfer to your own wallet.
So, can you please share this topic in various social media (twitter, facebook, etc).

EDIT: Added the "SOLVED" word to the Subject as the puzzle was solved today by akkort
