Wow, reading this whole thread...this shit is like a movie.
The amount of effort (or lack-there-of) of this scam attempt was pretty amazing.
Then the amount of people who researched more into the account finding out anomalies was cool.

I guess the point of this story, is don't believe a sob story and check your facts....
Heck, i know I would have lent him the money if these anomalies wern't uncovered...

This hacker definitely didn't get his facts straight - cold in Texas in July?  Now there's a good one.  It's usually no "cooler" than 80F down here.

The sad part is that he has likely gotten victims with exactly that story because he tried it again here.

The lesson learned for me is to keep better tabs on forum accounts even if I am not active too much on those forums.  The mere existence of the account does imply a minimum level of responsibility to know what's going on.

Above all, I'm just glad that there are so many seasoned scam busters lurking in the forums here.  The bar is definitely up there for the kinds of stories these clowns have to put out in order to get someone.

Still waiting on the recovery email.

Either way, atp1916 is locked and for the moment safe.

No hacker has control of it.

Yes i did.

Awaiting a response back.

Edit: It's been roughly the better par of a day.  Hoping i didn't goof up the message signing :x

I would suggest you PM Cyrus too, Cyrus is more active on the forum so you might be able to recover your account faster.

Theymos got back to me pretty fast as it turned out.  The .3 btc that this hacker was looking to scam people out for will instead go to the forum as a donation.  So, in the end, his actions only will make the forum that much stronger.

First, let me be the first to say, welcome back and I hope you recover your account quickly.  These a** hackers are a pain in the ass.  Why do they not do something worth doing, like hacking for companies to help strengthen their sites and security.

Thanks!

The irony is that my sig was totally anti-hacker/troll/thief et all...

...... and i got hijacked due to lackadaisical password handling.

I learned a lesson on this one.
How is it going on getting this account back?  Did they respond about it yet?  I see he dropped the use of the account, so why not just return the account?Huh  I hate people like this.  I wish I had the skill they do to be able to do this kind of hacking.  I could make a lot of money working for companies getting paid to try to hack their security!!  Good luck again.

If you sent the same message as you posted here then it shouldn't be a problem because that measage verified fine, if it was a new message and you were worried just verify it yourself before sending in future.

Atp1916 is indeed my account.

I've dropped off most forum activity since mid-2015 after selling off my mining farm around that time.  However, I do not ever intend on selling my account here because i am not leaving the crypto scene any time soon, nor will i merely action off the integrity this account has built.

I did post my PGP Pub key in a staking thread here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.13541956

I'd be happy to sign a message or two.

Because of the age signing a message with the address you already signed is much better. Did you already PM theymos as stated here?

Post a signed message from your main account after you get it back.

This is a Coinbase wallet.

I used their "sign message" ability.

Let's try a one-liner:  (No linebreaks,whitespaces)
Code:
This is the real atp1916.  Date is 09/18/2016.

HNFsWXXz85Q+dmwaSLPDkpgqv+N3dRO+9FLWUnit8KyjN2vVAOExybus82bg8HBoe5ND1LUXK8ATcF4V2dHBaLw=
This one worked fine for me:
The message from 1BMnMhtr5WcvNXvNQ4uXps9ssYFtCVX863 was verified.

The address was posted long enough ago for me to believe the this account either belongs to you or was sold with the original private key.

I failed to verify your signed message using brainwallet.

Converted into "proper" format:
Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
This is the real atp1916.  Date is 09/18/2016.

Responding to redsn0w's request to sign '1BMnMhtr5WcvNXvNQ4uXps9ssYFtCVX863'

-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
What wallet did you use to sign the message? Were there any spaces/linebreaks that you failed to remove or added?

Bastard got my account.

I should keep better watch over this space.

Thanks to all for flagging my account - i would hate to have seen this hacker defraud innocents.

Oh, and for the record - I am a software developer down here in the Dallas, Texas area.  I don't need loans Tongue

Can you sign a message from this address: 1BMnMhtr5WcvNXvNQ4uXps9ssYFtCVX863  (reference here & here) ?

Because i can and will: (Don't include the <'s or >'s)

This is what I do. I drink and I know things.
so this become "another day, another scam attempt". @op don't you have life outside of this forum? Maybe you need some fresh air
Yes, I also wonder because these guys just try to hack accounts and then make some pathetic stories which they also know none will believe. Instead of spending time and effort on this, they might earn decent and sure shot amounts if they would have focused their concentrations on some other things, even just fauceting too.
Yeah I agree with you. He could have made a lot more money by joining a signature campaign instead of trying to scam someone.

Scammers don't use honest methods to make money and because joining a signature campaign is honest and needs work they won't do it.

I'm doing this shit for fun, dumb ass. I could scam your ass 450 times without you even knowing it if I wanted it.

Sorry but if you dont do it for money and just for "fun", why dont you payback the members that you scam?

I can send you a 0.02-0.03BTC without interest, just to help you out...

I know its "dust" for the amount that you ask but...its something from nothing! Smiley

You can also talk to Zazarb or Dark_star. Maybe the have the amount that you want and they can lend you...

I'm not sure if those two would accept my request.
And guys did you notice why he is not asking loan from them ? Because he very well know they are old lender and would catch him in a second while a new lender can easily get in his trap. Sorry OP if you are really hacked I am feeling bad for you, but this doesn't look like that.

Thats why i "propose" to him to ask Zazarb and Dark_star...

Busted! hackers can sometimes be funny thinking they could simply get away after having the full control over the account.
They should consider the sign message every time they do this because being busted now happens every day.
