What are the average stale share rates that people are seeing with this pool?

I am just trying to balance my options.  Variability (pool size), fees, options, and stale shares [which essentially becomes a fee for all intents and purposes].

And due to popular demand (and finally having time to get work done):  https://www.btcguild.com  (AKA:  SSL protected website) is now available.

[29/05/2011 22:39:18] Warning: work queue empty, miner is idle

Getting these on occasion, even dropped the askrate to 4. Shouldn't need to drop it further? Or are you getting DDoSed as well?

You shouldn't need to set the ask rate at all with long polling.  Am I missing something?  You are likely defeating the purpose of long polling and adding additional load to the server.

Only use your own network to login, and use a wired connection...
HTTPS is of the past.. SSLStrip and its gone

HTTPS is just fine as long as both ends of the connection are secure [no trojans, spyware, etc. or other such information gathering software that shouldn't be there].

Miner idle notifications have now been added.  This feature is available to anybody who donated 2% in the previous round.  The feature will cease notifications if your donation percentage is dropped under 2% in the previous round.

You can enable this feature on the My Account page (it requires an email address).  Every minute, the server will check to see if any of your workers haven't submitted shares within your threshold value (default 30 minutes, minimum 5 minutes).  If a worker has not submitted work in that window, you will receive an email of all workers currently identified as idle.  It will not send another email unless the worker comes back online, and then returns to being idle.

I'm getting a lot of 'failed to connect, retrying' messages on my miners. It seems to be occurring more frequently after the server/pool was upgraded. Any help is appreciated.

eleuthria, what is the pool's percentage of invalid blocks (since inception)?  (I'm considering donating).

3 blocks out of 189 = 1.58%.  However, it's a pretty small sample size to make any calls.

i believe there has only been 3since the start of the pool so 3/189 *100

The max. you can get out of a pool via hopping is 128% (instead of 100% which are expected).

Until THIS impacts everyone in the pool to -10% there must be a lot of hoppers...

Still I'd love to have eleutheria investigate about score based distributions - the pool is now by far big enough to be an attractive target for hopping.

Regarding score/pershare debate:

- how often does your rig go offline just before a block is solved?

compared to:

- how many pool hoppers will there be lowering your daily income by 10% or more, considering that some of them already published their tasty stats?

Please, please switch to score-based. I want to see how good your interface is for myself before I decide whether to go here, but I won't even consider moving to a pool that isn't score-based.

The key thing to remember about why share-based is bad is that "shares" are actually worthless. Think about solo mining. If you mine for 10 minutes solo and then stop, you get nothing. You probably came across some "shares" while solo mining, but they aren't worth anything. The only thing that's really worth anything is a winning block. Shares only exist to tell a pool server that you're still mining in a way that can't be forged.

You want the shares of people no longer hashing for your pool to decay quickly. Because they aren't helping you find a hash anymore.

I can't disagree with you more.  If I dedicate my mining rig to your pool, and leave it unattended hashing away for hours and hours, and then before a block is finally solved my internet disconnects, or that mining box crashes - with your way I won't get hardly any credit for all those hours my box was dedicated to helping YOUR pool solve a block.

Hell no.

Agreed.
