It was funded March 20th this year. I remember freaking out because it was in the mail during the blockchain fork, and I was a nOOb then!

Thanks for the advice and any offers sent, but I sold it today to a local friend of mine for cash. Talked him into it since he has no bitcoins until now. He paid me Gox weekly average plus 10%. Off to the car dealership with the nasty fiat he gave me.

You're bringing 12k to the car dearship in cash? Could you let us know how that goes? No snark intended.

I brought 26K in total and it went fine (so far). I did have to fill out an IRS form since it was over 10k. I knew the dealer and he told me they never look into where the cash is from, just if you get caught doing illegal activities (tax, fraud, drugs, laundering, etc..) they will be able to take the purchased item from you since the money could be from said activity.

Dont DO NOT rip the sticker off please god. I would suggest auction start at 125BTC, more people should of got these while they were hot. Opened ones even sell for like 200 on ebay. Good luck with your endeavors man. I would guestimate double to triple in BTC value honestly, I think auction is the way to go especially with that condition.

casascius.com still sells the 100 BTC gold plated bars for 101.60.  Am I missing something?  Why would he be able to get 125 when casascius direct only wants 1.6 BTC premium?

Was unaware casascius reopened website. He was only auctioning for a few weeks so I did not realize. Thank you though that is very informative, load date is also important though, seems you got it a while ago so I would still start above market value. Up to the fellow though.

Do you have any rough price-range for what you'd want to sell this for?

Such a shame you have to get rid of it. Out of curiosity, how much would the gold alone be worth?

I don't think the content of gold plating is enough to factor into the cost.  This is the gold plated bar not to be confused with the gold bullion coin he offered.

Good luck with your sale! There are two car dealerships that take Bitcoin, one in Dallas and one in Kansas, IIRC.

Thanks! I will research those dealerships before I cash anything out. I have my eye on a nice Jaguar but the seller refused bitcoin. If they have anything I like I would rather purchase with bitcoin, to, you know, help out the bitcoin community.

I would also be interested in that question, wouldn't it be wise OP to hold off a little longer for a rise in price.

No clue about the worth of the gold. My plan was to keep this for 5+ years, but I totalled my vehicle and need a new one. I bought this when the price was in the 20s so I've seen enough profit to let it go now. I have other Casascius coins that I will most likely never sell, so I don't mind letting it go.

If I have no clue what to even price this bar at, so I was trying to gauge interest, and start an auction. Or like I said above, if I receive an offer that I deem acceptable I would be willing to sell it straight up, for BTC that I can then cash out, or cash in person. I would HATE to rip the sticker off this beauty, but I know know many ppl are willing to throw over 100BTC for purchases. I guess I will give it a few days, and continue to pay for my rental car.

Looks beautiful, just to clarify are the 100 BTC still on it?

100BTC still on it, never been tampered with, I put it in two of the little plastic cases that comes with the Casascius 25 coins the day I received it, and its been stored for safe keeping since. I also have 2 2011 25BTC coins that I thought about selling as well, but what I am needing to buy cost more than 50+BTC.  Its a shame car dealerships do not take bitcoin yet, but one day!

There is at least one dealership that accepts bitcoin.
