You know how they say that if you get enough monkeys and give them all keyboards they'll eventually reproduce the complete works of William Shakespeare?  Well, I thought I'd put that to the test...

So I imported a bunch of monkeys.  Had to pay off a few customs guys to look the other way.  Gave them all keyboards and let them have at it.  While they didn't produce any Shakespeare, they did manage to come up with a valid solution for the block.  Unfortunately for me, they want to keep it to themselves and every time I try to get it I'm bombarded with flying poo.  Ungrateful little simians...
No bananas for them !

i want a banana, a block, and a hug.

It wasn't that long ago that someone stated here something to the equivalent that most miners won't tolerate a week long block on p2pool.

I do think this is the beginning of the end of p2pool.

M

M, what happened dude, you were a beacon of hope in this community when I joined it, it seems as if you have soured as of late Smiley

As I've said before ...

I like the idea of p2pool.  But it has fatal flaws.

Anyone who's okay with 1+ week blocks is welcome here.  For everyone else, which is the majority of miners who are barely scraping by, I can't see it happening.

I can't afford to go weeks on end without a block... I left a number of days ago.

These kind of posts remind me of http://bitcoinobituaries.com/

As long as there are 2 P2Pool nodes with some hashrate P2Pool will not die.

Currently there are 347 miners mining on at least 86 nodes.

Yes, we have lost (for the time being) 2 major miners, but I would prefer to see this as an opportunity and not "the end".

What does the lower hashrate mean?

It's a great opportunity for smaller miners to come back to P2Pool.

It's a great opportunity for larger miners to jump in a get a bigger share of the block reward.

For me, the principles P2Pool represents are too important to allow to die.

P2Pool is still the only decentralized, trust-less mining pool.

It has no single point of failure.

It has no centralized authority.

It requires no registration.

It pays directly from the generation transaction.

P2Pool, in my opinion, is still the best thing in mining since slush developed the pooled mining concept.

I can't speak for the other 346 miners who have stuck around during the worst streak of luck I've seen in the pool, but the reasons above will keep me mining on P2Pool.

The only thing that is certain about luck is that it will change. P2Pool has historically paid out better then any other pool, and I'm confident that it will continue to, although currently at a higher variance.

Greed, impatience & lust for profit can often temporarily blind people to reality, causing them to wander around from pool to pool in search of faster & greater profits, until eventually their vision has cleared & it becomes clear that not only are there no fast profits to be made in mining, but also that p2pool is the highest paying pool there is anyway.

See you soon Chupacabras  Wink
Patman, I never said this is not the best pool. It is just dry cause of the users hoping habits. I will be back when i see stability. Thanks.
if your looking for stability wrt payout, you will always earn less than you could Wink

5 more days and difficulty changes.  Odds are it'll be increasing.  If p2pool hasn't found a block by then, a whole difficulty increase will be missed.

That will surely put a dent in your earnings.

I could not of said that better Jonnie

Ok one question.  What are other people seeing the efficiency for share on there node?  Mine runs between 15-20% mostly staled shares and every once and a while a single orphaned share.  Was just curious if that's the average most have been seeing lately, the longer the node is running the numbers get better. Was thinking about going to a SSD drive but that's down time and cost.

p2pool just dropped below 1PH  Sad

is it normal for predicted payout to cut its self in half for seemingly no reason?

The way I understand it, yes as it all depends on how many shares you find and replace as the older shares fall off. If you find more shares it can go up as well.

The problem right now is as the pool goes longer without a block, miners are moving off which lowers the hash rate which is just going to make it harder to find a block...

Seen this happen on other pools

I called a psychic...she sees a block in my future.
Then she said, pay-up 1 BTC.

are you sure she didn't say you would pay my address 1 btc? she does have a thick accent.
