Strange that it is still going on.. my own node and others in this list are finding valid shares still and the efficiency ratings all seem good.

http://p2pool.hopto.org:9332/static/nodes.html

Are you running a standard bitcoind and not an alpha or something?

Yup, I woke up this morning to about 10 orphans - very strange. I restarted everything and have not had any since.....

Edit: I spoke too soon, just got another one...... Sad

Would you consider allowing Forrestv to add the nodes link to p2pool/master? If so please contact him on IRC.

It's nice and would be great if it was included in the master branch.

Watch out for the "Neg-Rep-Dogie-Police".....
No, no Alphas or Betas - just the latest Bitcoin, P2pool & Guiminer. Not changed any settings either.....just seems a little slow at the mo. But then I'm quite noob to all this, still learning.....lol

I can't see an abnormal number of orphans on the network:

You can see a small spike at about 2 AM. Must've been a problem with peoples' system clocks or something.

I don't know what happened and I find nothing interesting in the logs, but every share I got around the DST change was orphaned (The last git pull I did was about 24 hours prior). I shut down bitcoind/p2pool/miners and restarted. The problem then went away and I started getting good shares again.

Note: I did another git pull before restarting everything (there were a few changes).

Anyone else experience this?

Edit: I lost about 40 shares in a row to orphans (not DOA's).

Public P2P Node

Latest p2pool (8.2?)

86.84.172.146:9332

Username: your payout adress,
password: anything you like.

Fee 0%!!! BTC only.

Location: Benschop (Central in Netherlands)  (EUROPE).

Fee 0% currently, maybe 0,5% for the author of P2P pool in future if i like p2pool that good Smiley.

Mining now with about 4,5-5ghs on p2pool Smiley. (came from ozcoin, but i like the idea that every of my own rigs just points to a local machine wich connects to the "pool". the only point of failure is my own machine now (which has not let me down in terms of crashing, only a internet failure once but then all riggs are down Tongue)

The minirigs can work with small amounts of work updating fast enough for p2pool's requirements. With cgminer you can enable the feature --bfl-range which splits work up into smaller amounts making stales manageable, but reduces hashrate by 1%.

Don`t panic! Organize!
how are the minirigs compatible but not singles?
I can't remember exactly. It's something to do with the newer Singles inside the Minirigs.
Device is incompatible to p2pool (hight stale ratio) when
- it is not dropping/gettineg new work instantly on longpool
- it is not returning share just after it fonud it

IE if single is making full nonce in about 10s and returning all shares it found after that time there is high chance that in mean time was longpool and all shares are stale/doa already.

Oh what changed?
Nothing. That's the way it's always been. Although ckolivas did have to add the --bfl-range flag to cgminer to get it working with Minirigs.

Did I miss something, can we use fpgas or asics with p2pool now?
Anything except for the current BFL Singles. Minirigs and the new ASICs should work fine.

What does "Punishing share for 'Block-stale detected!" mean? I gather it happens after a new block appears on the network.. but what is the punishment?

First, this has always been done, but I've just recently made the message more visible. It used to be simply "Stale detected! (long hex number) < (long hex number)".

In order to punish the share, your node tries to orphan it by building on that share's parent instead of on top of it. If you find a share, you'll have made a fork, and other nodes will prefer your share to the original, since yours wasn't block-stale, resulting in the original share not being integrated into the chain.

You must spank her well.  And after you have spanked her, you may deal with her as you like.  And then, spank me.
