Ah ok thanks for explaining (and Gavin).

The question still stands though: if there still donations being made I'm curious how the process works. Is it incorporated in the normal payout?

The 0.0011 were donations from Gavin to make up a mistake with transaction fees in a beta build of bitcoind. He rounded them all up to that to be nice.

That was a long time ago.

In other news, we had 6 blocks today, at a 1 per hour average.

Have the P2Pool donations / Promotion stopped? I haven't received any in over a week now.

No, I have gotten several in the past few days.

How does that work (http://blockexplorer.com/address/1N9mMCgV1CzU3s8Kvf7BcQhBBXGgoo9Wx1)? Is the 0.0011 I got at the top a donation? How is it divided?

this completely random series of events that are in no way indicative of future results
Can I save this for the next time someone posts something like "I've been mining on p2pool for 10 minutes and I would have got twice* as much from MegaPool (* less fees)"Cheesy

Five blocks in five hours, and of course my mining rig had to break down ~10 hours before the first one...

Well, hopefully this completely random series of events that are in no way indicative of future results will convince more people to switch to P2Pool.

Well there is something obviously wrong. In 12 hrs you should have a few K shares submitted moreover you have 750mh/s not 7.5 mh/s.

Where did I put 7.5?  Anyway, yes over this time I have had many, many thousands of shares submitted according to cgminer but not a single "Share found!" in P2Pool.  /shrugs

Everything appears to be running just fine, I was just assuming really bad luck.

And BAM as I type this we hit another block.  That's 5 for today. Guess I can't be too upset but damnit I'm at my lowest payout rates since I've started P2Pool.

So I used to use one address, then I switched to a different one for the last four blocks. However, the payouts are going to both of my two addresses and are split 50/50. How come?

You still had valid shares submitted using the old payout address. I'm assuming you switched in the past 24 hours?

I think about 24 hours ago. But surely I submitted many more shares with my current address than the previous one. Don't know how it ended up being exactly 50-50 between my two addresses. Anyhow it is probably OK.

Why does my "Recent" hash rate as reported by the P2Pool client vary so much?

I think that is calculated based on how many recent shares have been accepted by P2Pool so it varies over time based on your personal "luck".
Mine is currently at 0  Sad  This is because even though I'm running about 750Mhs, I haven't found a single share in 12+ hours.... At least we hit 4 blocks this morning but I'd be a lot happier if it wasn't after a half day stale period for me, I got shit payouts.

You might have been lucky...
As far as I understand it, 2.19% of the past 17376 shares were done by you.

In theory, you'd need ~4.4 GH/s for that.

In practice, you could do it even by hand with a calculator or Excel if you are extremely lucky with your nonces.

I apologize if this is answered up-thread, but I couldn't come up with adequate search terms...  Why does my "Recent" hash rate as reported by the P2Pool client vary so much?  Over a day or so it has varied from less than 1GH/s to over 4GH/s as it was a few minutes ago:

Code:
2012-02-08 08:17:19.385786 Pool: 200GH/s in 17376 shares (17380/17380 verified) Recent: 2.19% >4381MH/s Shares: 534 (23 orphan, 15 dead) Peers: 43 (33 incoming)
2012-02-08 08:17:19.385871 Average time between blocks: 0.34 days
2012-02-08 08:17:19.386103 Pool stales: 9% Own: ~7% (5-10%) Own efficiency: ~102% (99-104%)

The variation is slow, i.e., it takes time to move much.

The rate reported by cgminer is about 2GH/s:

Code:
 cgminer version 2.2.3 - Started: [2012-02-06 18:30:16]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 (5s):1824.7 (avg):2183.0 Mh/s | Q:84788  A:25842  R:692  HW:0  E:30%  U:11.35/m

Is this because bitcoin network rejected it?

Just give it some more time to show up in your wallet.

If it shows up in here https://blockexplorer.com/address/1Kz5QaUPDtKrj5SqW5tFkn7WZh8LmQaQi4 it will show up in your wallet too.

Frizz23,

I thought that it would require a few milliseconds for a block to propagate through the network.

Regards.

Arrived!

It took 23 minutes ?!?

Why so long? Does the generation block require a few more blocks to distribute its reward? Does it wait for 6 confirmations before being distributed to all miners?

In the mean time... another one block found right now!

Code:
2012-02-08 17:02:26.547736 GOT BLOCK FROM PEER! Passing to bitcoind! 93be805e bitcoin: 45b373f38ffbb7e4b2da40bd36a81435f8b8c5c2be72a5d119d

It seems we're getting back our good luck Smiley

Spiccioli, some blocks don't appear in logs because they were stale as P2Pool shares when they were found, and so weren't broadcast.

Thanks forrestv,

It seems we just found a third block, 16:40 GMT+1, but this one has not reached my wallet (yet)?!?

Code:
2012-02-08 14:59:09.241492 GOT BLOCK FROM PEER! Passing to bitcoind! c588846d bitcoin: 8acd68a3104ef43befea3fa896c91c15718b428faacb63775ca

ziomik: What is your displayed "Efficiency"? Is it near 100%?

The reason for the rare payouts has been that the pool has been pretty unlucky in the past few days. See: http://u.forre.st/p2pool/luck.png We found two blocks in the morning, though.. hopefully on the way back.

Hi, my efficiency is around 100%. Now I'm not at your computer but remember that is very close (from 95% to 98%)
