The whale's sell off has no doubt generated publicity, and proved how big the bitcoin market is. The final hour/half hour of the sale saw millions of dollars worth of bitcoins sold. That's impressive by anyone's standards and might help to start pushing the price up, as people who missed out try to buy before the price really shoots up.

Just off the trend and dynamics, the price was already dropping before the whale/wall business though...so I'm still inclined to think this was an anomaly and it'll reset the downward trend a bit lower.

If it gets into the mid 200 range, I'd expect a panic sell off to some degree which could absolutely send it below 100.

But I also see the mid 200 range being a sweet spot for long timers to go ahead and enjoy a bitcoin sale which would begin moving it back up.

Is it out of the realm of possibility or probability that the same whale or anyone else might do exactly the same thing next weekend?

My personal inclination is that it'll hit mid 200s in October and cause a sell off crash, then it'll start jumping up to 500ish by the end of the year.

It's not a prediction, just kind of how I see the dynamics of what's been happening and would've likely gone there regardless of Mr Whale.

Thoughts?

Me and a lot here have been saying it nonstop: BTC will hit on the floor lower than any of the regular posters here ever wanted to recognize.. no doubt it will sky rocket again eventually (or go up in a smooth way), it will go up anyway, but there is going to be a big fucking crash and a lot of Bitcoin ritchies of the early days are going to give their Bitcoins to newcomers that are willing to invest. A much needed redistribution of coins.

Interesting, but the people from the early days do know how to keep their coins, time has shown that they don't act as emotionally as later investors do! Also, I think there aren't any numbers that show that this redistribution is actually happening!

Is that the final slide? Where does the final slide end? Do you reckon it's going to go to $0? I fail to see how this is a probable outcome. A possible one, yes, but not a probable one at all, I believe!

It'd have to be on the scale of a full national de facto ban with criminal penalties involved for "news" to crash it. But there are multi million dollar corporations who have invested billions into bitcoin infrastructure - there's no national ban in this country regardless (and only noted since it's apparently usa setting the standard, for better or worse).

The gox event and the china situation seem to be the two biggest influences of the bitcoin market. The rest of the bad news and even all of the good news otherwise doesn't seem to have any impact one way or the other.

Or, there's about to be a global solar flare or EMP that kills power and internet.

How do you know its not insider trading.  Maybe big announcement tomorrow will crash the price

That is a possibility, without many facts it's as good as any. Although it is very hard to imagine such an announcement.

Only 5 hrs away from "morning" in the USA.  I don't think it'll drop ~$100 that quick...
Bitcoin has fallen as much in terms of percentages (and dollar amounts) in the past. A $100 drop would only represent a ~ 33% drop from current levels and bitcoin has crashed 50%+ in less then an hour before.

I don't think it will happen, but it is certainly a possibility and if it does happen it would make for a great opportunity to buy more bitcoin
