This is the reason why professional designers do not take these contests seriously. There is no guaranteed payment for professional work.
what is with every body wanting to pay next to nothing to have stuff done ?

OP should use a smaller version of this for his logo. You are right. the design should approach the fear in a humorous way, certainly no vampires and blood

The first thing that springs to mind was the "Scream" painting by Edvard Munch (the original concept behind the "Scream" masks) with a bowler hat (banker's hat) with an orange exclamation mark on it.
