see the answer above.

Is it a fact that this happened or was it just alleged?

I am glad that he isn't involved more with Bitcoin. Read up on his history - He offered warez for download and sold the user data to a lawer then and many other fraudulent things.

And YouTube and Google offer pirated films and music. Saying Megaupload offered wares is akin to saying the postal service offers drugs and cp because people use it so send such things.

Don't say that you never used megaupload for something.

At first this happened 20 years ago - in a time of "mailboxes" and at second I wasn't complaining about him offering warez, but selling peoples telephone numbers who got sued after that...

In the lawsuit against him, it was estimated that he made somewhere between $175 million and $250 million from Megaupload.

May be way more than that. He never disclosed the income himself. And it is not that easy to calculate the revenue from premium membership and such. Probably close to one billion USD. But spend a lot of money from that.

I never said he was a nice guy, but he doesn't seem especially nefarious either, and I don't see how much he made from Megaupload is an issue (unless you're the USG).

And he's vigorously fighting that extradition and I hope he wins. I also disagree that he's a nobody. He might not be an international celeb but he seems to be fighting for all the right causes and isn't afraid to stand up and voice his opinion, especially against the mighty USG. They're not a nice enemy to have especially when they've got a grudge behind them.

I don't think that he is a nice guy. He profited quite a lot from Megaupload and he still have most of his $250 million net worth untouched by the authorities. On the other hand, he scammed a large number of affiliates by promising them generous payouts for attracting premium memberships. Very few of them received any money.

My thoughts exactly, except megaupload founder is more of a nobody. I thought he was in prison anyway?

He has lots of cash with him. So he avoided the prison, just like Mark Kerpeles. Prison is only for the poor and the middle-class. But there is still an US extradition warrant against him existing (over Megaupload). However, I disagree that he is a virtual nobody. Right now, he is very well known all across the globe, thanks to the Megaupload fiasco.

because he did hoard enough btc?
Back in 2011 he got a chance of moving into btc but he didnt. Now he wants to make his pump and dump coin.

Oh.. I got it. He want to create some shitcoin, of which 50% or more will be pre-mined by him. Best of luck with that. And good luck to those idiots who will fall in to this trap (there will be plenty for sure).

ShitCoin.com is for sale, only $2500. ShitCoin is a sweet name for an altcoin...or a band.

Article doesn't really give much information to what he's planning, but all a coin needs is a public figurehead behind it and it'll draw much attention.

I don't understand the need for another new altcoin now. Why can't he just use the Bitcoin?
