Oh wow, so many replies!

But then wouldn't this thread be proof then that negative interest garners more interest than posting something positive?

Myself, I read it as a rough gauge of sentiment around here. Remember how awful the general mood was in early 2009? That, actually, was the time to start buying stocks. Simple contrarian analysis: 1) People broadcast what they've already done, because they want you to join them; 2) Sentiment usually goes overboard.

1) says that when "everyone" is bullish, "everyone" has already bought. Mutatis mutandis for "everyone" bearish. Add 2) and you've got a basic ready-to-go contrarian model. Smiley

Of course, it's not as easy as it looks. Wink Buying when sentiment is gloomy is a great way to rattle your nerves. The contrarian model actually said that the best time to start buying stocks was at the beginning of November 2008. Doing so meant riding through the final panic in Feb-Mar of '09.

Contariwise, selling when "everyone" is bullish inevitably means selling too soon - and feeling like a complete idiot as the market keeps going up and up. That's because there's an MLMish side to every bull market blow-off where new money comes in and listens to "everyone." With the gloom comes normally strong hands being worn down and throwing their hands in.

Fact is, simple evergreen strategies keep on working because all of them are psychologically costly. In a very real sense, you're compensated for taking pain and learning how to act "inhumanly".

Thanks for starting this topic. It confirms my hunch that the sentiment around here is pretty depressed/angry.

BTW: one reliable aspect of a bear market is declining volume and interest. Have you noticed that it's much easier to catch up on the goings-on around here than it was in March of last year? IOW, have you seen the topic and post count declining along with Bitcoin & most alts?

I see a lot more mature discussion around here than a year ago. If you discount all the address spam then the actual amount of threads with real substance to them is around 3-4 times more than it was a year ago. The amount of real developers in the space has improved as well and the general knowledge of people on the forums into how Blockchains actually work has also improved.

Even some of the scam threads I highlighted, more of that is attention seeking and you can see some very good discussion on economics, particularly in the NXT, Nubits and Bitshares scam threads where the developers and community members discuss the criticism's openly.

I think it helps to give an idea of where the CryptoCurrency space is heading and general sentiment. One thing is for sure though, people love scam threads.

NxT was the first to be scammin' in 2013 and it continues to this day.  Jeff Garzik, Bitcoin Developer, has said the scams / thefts in NxT are probable inside jobs.  Is there a backdoor switch in Belarus / France / Netherlands?

....

I remember January of last year it was very quiet compared to this, what do you guys think about this?

.......

Quiet's not how I remember January of last year. There was nothing but endless giveaway threads 24/7 with hundreds of addresses posted in each. Only the most popular giveaway stood a chance of remaining bumped to the top of the first page for a few hours. If you tried to start a normal thread it was lost in the noise and five pages back within half an hour.

The mods were forced to ban giveaway threads after January because it was completely out of control.

Stop polluting the forum with your brainfarts.

80%+ of people who own BTC don't even invest in altcoins.

Uhhh...you do know what board this thread is on?

But then wouldn't this thread be proof then that negative interest garners more interest than posting something positive?

For example, I saw multiple threads from the same person asking who wants to get involved in working on some projects and ideas for fun. He got about 2 or 3 posts on each of the threads he posted before it got drowned out by other threads. I posted a thread with a title saying everyone's getting scammed and I got 20 replies in a couple hours which says to me that people like drama more than actually working on the tech itself.

Bitcointalk, they come for the tech but stay for the drama.

Thought that might get your attention, Here is a little snapshot of the current feeling of the AltCoin market

AltCoin section has been going wild lately and I noticed I end up posting on a lot of the Scam threads but then again, out of the top 40 threads, 25% of them are claiming something is a scam.

The next most popular category of threads are about daytrading and pump and dumps, attacking Coins followed by how to make Coins, getting into new projects and last but not least a couple informative threads. I guess this means as in popular media, negative attention attracts more interest.

I remember January of last year it was very quiet compared to this, what do you guys think about this?

What do you think the AltCoin section look like 1 year from now? is 2015 the year of the Scam Thread?

yeah. that's cos a lot of people were scammed and were tricked into buying/holding pump and dump coins.  there was a time when a person could make thousands of usd a night trading coins that were pumped and then dumping at the right time.

now these army of bag holders are making it their hobby to call everything a scam, even the legit projects.  but i don't blame them.  it's not like their rich and have the money to lose... i bet some of them even "invested" their hard earned life savings.

it sucks but that's life.  the predator and the prey.

the easiest people in the world to scam are the get rich quick crowd, so no mystery why 99% of this section are scams.

The on going fight against PoS is a joke on it self they still think PoW is the only right way to go.

Bitcoin may die but altcoins will always be here if you want to or not... you can't kill them just with Shill work and some propaganda.
All POW coins feature that steady decline in common. Since most have that silly high inflation of 10% (Bitcoin) or 30% (Litecoin) each year. Notation follows that.

What happens if Bitcoin has finally died? If a pegged to Urea shitcoin floats up on top of the wreckage debries, I will emotionally break down for sure.

Well, then you really don't know anything about Bitcoin and how much in deep shit it is right now.

I know that's why I'm saying what I'm saying.

Bitcoin hits $50. Everyone would come to crypto to cover their loss. As a result crypto would become scamland.

What do you think would happen once investors start losing money? Will they keep investing or will they quit?

If there is 1% crypto that's legit..there are 1000 more that're plain scam and that's not good for technology as a whole.

Bitcoin - $50

Everything else to 1 sat

Welcome to 2015. I think it's the year of investors saying "Fck you" to crypto and leaving whales to die in their own mess. It's bullshit really. I thought 2015 would be an end but it seems like they're always trying to figure out another way to scam people instead of leaving crypto and until people stop investing in scams they would keep coming back in different form.

You might say scammers are to blame but that's only 1% of the truth. Other 99% of the truth is that investors don't mind investing in scams as long as they can make quick profit (most of the time they end up with huge bags)

too bad.

Well, if you want to sell your altcoins for 1sat then so be it, i like stupid people who think that only bitcoin is the only coin around here.

Crypto is heaven for scammers. How do you think we're going to get away from it?

Watch how more scams (a lot smarter) erupt as bitcoin slowly goes to $50

Good luck attracting serious investors with these many scams.

Why do you think on this forum it is allowed to post immediately when you make a account ? Because bitcoin people want it that way.
Throw as much as many bricks at your competition and maybe you will end up on top of them all.

The on going fight against PoS is a joke on it self they still think PoW only is the right way to go.

Bitcoin may die but altcoins will always be here if you want to or not... you can't kill them just with Shill work and some propaganda.

lol

why are you still posting here if you think btctalk is such a joke?

Don't you see. You NEED bitcoin ..It doesn't need you. It can spit on you and your crypto yet you will come back to it trying to get it attention.

Bitcoin is a bad ass who doesn't give a single fck about crypto. Meanwhile crypto world revolves around bitcoin.

Bitcoin die

Crypto die with it.

With your activity [98] i can only see that you are a shill and will be marked from today on.

lol

read my post again. no shill here. I only report what I see
