< Your earlier post >

As long as you do everything you can to shut down any dissenting viewpoints.  And you wonder why the people you don't agree with feel the need to hold a 'Free Speech Party'.

< Then you followed up with this bullshit >

I never said you couldn't say what you said.  I merely asked that if the roles were reversed, would you be okay with someone accusing you of shilling by mere virtue of attending an event with free refreshments?  In your haste to launch into a tirade, you appear to have neglected to provide an answer.  I then pointed out that opposing views are simply discarded rather than debated.  Other than not being fond of Roger Ver as an individual (something you've been abundantly clear on), what is it you despise so much about this conference and the people who chose to attend?

Listen, you logic-deficient meatbag -- you abundantly IMPLIED I was "controlling what was said" by your little crybaby "everything you can to shut down" statement. Its amazing that I have to SPELL EVERYTHING OUT TO YOU like you're some aging OCR reader in a public library.

The entire "Free Speech" conference is a misnomer, a whining little spit-against-the-wind "protest" by someone who has no clue as to what the future will be. By covering it in the whinge-fest of "Free Speech", Ver is implying that he doesn't have the freedom to say what he wants --- BUT HE FUCKING DOES. So, when a user comes along and gives the all-smiles thumbs-up with a shitty shillpost, you better believe that I'm going to take them to task about it.

Ver can spread his ideas anywhere he wants, but by acting like he's a VICTIM, he only proves that his ideas weren't useful to begin with. If you have to play the card of being "oppressed", you've already lost your own PR battle. Its fucking maneuvers like these and his constant in-your-face-do-it-like-I-say-or-we're-doomed bullshit that gets under people's skin.

And yet, there are useful idiots that will defend him to the very end, perhaps because they identify with being VICTIMS instead of actually contributing towards some kind of progress.

Give me a fucking break with your "woe is me" crap -- this isn't a middle-school playground where you skinned your knee and everyone rushes to kiss your boo-boo.

Neither you, nor anyone else can say with any certainty what would have happened by now if a larger number had been chosen in the heat of the moment, so don't pretend otherwise.  You claim to have "pertinent arguments", but all you really have are doomsday scenarios and scaremongering.  You paint any differing opinion to your own as some sort of hostile takeover.  You'll probably accuse me of that being a misrepresentation as well, but it's pretty much all I've heard over the last couple of years now.

No, you're entirely wrong about all of that. We do know what real effects the health of the Bitcoin network from the slow trickle of full-nodes being switched off, even at 1MB. So there's nothing arbitrary about the number, it's not sustainable by some Bitcoin users now. Making consistent arguments to fuel that downward spiral is just always going to look like either ignorance or trolling. And to say that the "Bitcoin Democracy" camp haven't been called out dozens of times using all sorts of duplicitous arguments is a real joke.

Your argument has one major problem (as do those of your free-screeching friends): the people who care about their BTC actually want to know, strangely enough, and so the best idea truly will win. I look forward to seeing the outcome.

It sounds like cheap politics.

Of course it is. And a depressingly large amount of times out of ten it works a treat too. But in this particular case I think people were more interested in the beer rather than sending Bitcoin batty.

I was there yesterday, very intresting as expected, like the people in the room Smiley

(for roger and the team if you are reading this thank you for the beers Cheesy)

And here we have the solution to the scaling strife. He who hands out most beer wins. I'll bet Blockstream never thought of that.

Blockstream is not that desperate to gather support... It sounds like cheap politics. I have seen this strategy being done very

successfully in 3rd world countries during elections. They also hand out free food parcels and t-shirts to buy votes. Roger Ver is doing

the weirdest things lately.  Roll Eyes ... Is everyone going Bitcoin crazy? Cmon guys and gals.. let's play together nicely.  Sad

DooMad, you're misrepresenting what Timm (and others) do say so much, why should anyone want to debate with you at all?

We've never heard an honest or pertinent argument from your camp, you've never made one. Not once. There's nothing to debate when one side isn't interested in getting to the truth of the matter.

What, exactly, did I misrepresent here?  An attendee described the event as "interesting" and that alone was sufficient for Timm to accuse them of shilling just because they got free beer.  Sure, he's welcome to make that accusation, but it feels a tad premature to judge and certainly seems to lack any real evidence.

My honest argument is the one I expressed in my prior response to you.  Bitcoin should not become an elitist plaything for the privileged few.  If scaling is not handled correctly, I fear that could well be the end result.  If that wasn't what I honestly believed, I wouldn't be writing it.

I'm happy for optimisations to be made to the code, I'm happy for us to experiment with payment channels, but I won't abide a completely one-sided narrative about the supposed evils of altering the blocksize when it was an arbitrary number plucked from thin air without any prior testing.

You must be a fan of one-off tossers posting 5-star reviews of products on Amazon, even if they haven't used it.

My comment is not just "free beer", but the absolutely transparent shilling effort put forth by someone with zero substance behind their opinion.

In short -- a shitpost is a shitpost, but judging by your response -- you're very familiar with shitposting.

And if, for example, you attended an event with free refreshments which was hosted by people whose opinions you agreed with, and someone accused you of shilling simply because you said that event was "interesting", you'd be okay with that?  Because as soon as anyone gives an opposing view around here, people are desperate to jump at the opportunity to discredit it as shilling.  It's like a reflex.  "Someone doesn't agree with me, the only plausible explanation is someone bought them off".   Roll Eyes

And if character assassinations of the host and dismissing it as shilling doesn't work, call it shitposting instead.  As long as you do everything you can to shut down any dissenting viewpoints.  And you wonder why the people you don't agree with feel the need to hold a 'Free Speech Party'.

You act as if pointing out a post that has little or no content is some kind of free-speech violation.

It isn't. His shitty little post is still in this thread, is it not?

Your equally shitty posts about a shilling shitpost is still in this thread, is it not?

So take your attitude and stuff it -- if you can't handle someone saying anything contrary -- then by all means, block me. Your hyperbolic reasoning that I'm "shutting down" discussion is idiotic. I type stuff, you type stuff. I'm not controlling your hands on the keyboard, am I? So get off the high horse of "free speech" and get some backbone, it isn't rainbow meadows and blue skies out here.

People using "Free Speech" to have a technical meeting are the very same that don't understand free speech in the first place. But then again, this is the generation of "safe spaces" and "don't hurt my feelings with your facts", so naturally it turns into a whining crybaby fest about how someone is being "kept down" somehow.

How utterly pathetic...

You're entirely right; 2 years of loudly and arrogantly ignoring an entire technology and investing ecosystem, with demonstrably false "Improvement" proposals (which consistently endanger or ruin the system, no matter what is proposed), that is definitely free speech.

And it's being freely ignored, because it's low grade concern trolling. At best.

Some wouldn't consider coercing a large number of users into payment channels an improvement either.  The feature can certainly be available for those who opt to use it, so I'm not saying Lightning shouldn't be implemented.  But at the same time, it shouldn't be just a small, privileged minority available to transact directly on the main chain.  There must be adequate space in blocks to accommodate that vision, but not so much space as to threaten the decentralised nature of the system.  Creating a two-tier service will simply cause people to jump to the next shiny altcoin that doesn't force people into payment channels and Bitcoin will never realise its true potential.

There you go, all you need to post glowing reviews is free beer....

WTF.

He said it would be "interesting" earlier in the thread, before he even got his free beer.  And since when does "interesting" count as a "glowing review" anyway?  It's amusing how riled up some people can get over subjects they don't approve of being discussed by some different people in a room somewhere.

Roger Ver is following in the footsteps of Mike "Temper Tantrum" Hearn.

When you disagree, you need to be a complete twat and get in everyone's face about how their choices are "bad". If that fails, then you get to call Bitcoin a "failed experiment" and take your ball and go home.

We're still waiting for the "and go home" moment...

Yes, in fact Roger Ver's personality profile is a lot similar to that of Mike Hearn and (to a lesser degree) Gavin Andresen. All three are rather narcissistic characters that seek constant admiration, tend to think their ideas are exclusively the valid ones, and have difficulties to cope with criticism.

Just take a look on Ver's website and his talking style. He certainly isn't interested in the greater good of Bitcoin. His primary motive is to get the admiration of the investment (banking) world by squeezing the most (fiat) profits out of Bitcoin for himself.

But the same way Hearn and Andresen have failed with their irresponsible plans, Roger Ver will ultimately rest on the junkyard of history, because he fails to realize that disrespect for the contributions of others implies the requirement creating something better himself...

agree with DooMAD.. btw, i didn't expressed myself about the conference because i know my english isn't so good for saying correctly what is my thought, my main thought was that the "ambient" was truly amazing (it was my first "btc meet-up"). Roger didn't spoke so much, instead, bitcoin unlimited creator spoke a lot about various aspects of the differect block's size, after Andrea Suisani held a speech about xThin, after that there was free talk between the partecipants.

To whom is the speech for?   to the bitcoin dev team?
If i were as rich as him, i would actually create my own coin and work on it instead and then start free speech and compare his own coin to any other coin.
