Swiss luxury watch brand Hublot has unveiled its new watch Big Bang Blockchain in an official announcement September 19. The new model has been released to commemorate the upcoming 10th anniversary of Bitcoin (BTC).

As per Hublot’s release, the 210-piece limited edition can only be purchased with BTC. The number of units symbolises the fact that the number of bitcoins will never exceed 21 million.

To promote and sell the model, Hublot has partnered with Octagon Strategy Limited (OSL) –  a major Asian digital asset brokerage which will help process customer data during the pre-sale.

To purchase a Big Bang Blockchain, a customer has to register on a dedicated website. OSL will then confirm the data and send the payment details via email. The new Hublot model will be delivered to its buyers in the beginning of 2019.

Wow, buy a cool clock for Bitcoin, it's fun.
But listen, the price is too expensive.
Don't you think so?

I liked this news, although I am still a long way from being able to buy any model of watch with the BTC that I own. An interesting fact is that luxury watches are also considered as Store of Value. Fluffy, one of the developers of Monero, was in an event, concensus, with a watch valued at more than $ 800,000. And one of his arguments was exactly this one that was a way to secure his financial patrimony.

If he was looking to pass value through the generations he should've bought a watch that was an existing antique. Chances are that monster on his wrist will be regarded as tacky shite in a couple of decades.

I think that you're overpricing it. The normal Big Bang can be bought for $10k. Pricy editions like this 18k gold edition cost $30k.

I'd assume the price of bitcoin edition to be in that range. Even if they price it  little above that (40k USD) It's still going to be something like 6BTC (at 6,5k USD), not 50!
I don't expect them to carve this watch out of 24k gold and diamonds to reach 50BTC. Cheesy

I was referring to site which is linked in my post, price of Hublot watches are from 2 BTC to 7 BTC, and since this is limited edition on the occasion of marking the tenth anniversary of Bitcoin price should be much higher than for the existing models. You see that one of Monero developer have watch worth more then 800k $, so 300k $ for this Bing Bang is nothing Wink

Do these people not understand anything about bitcoin fans? Unfuckingbelievable. They should've found another jurisdiction or exempted this sale because they just killed off a significant percentage of potential custom.

Probably a sign that they don't care as long as they can ride Bitcoin's name and fame to dump these watches. It makes me wonder though, they must be thinking that this space is full of insanely wealthy Bitcoin holders all looking to spend their freshly obtained wealth on stupid goodies no one even need. They don't realize that all the lambo bullshit consists of rented cars only. Cheesy

The rich holders of back in the days all appreciate their privacy and rather buy these watches once it ends up on a secondary marketplace.

Another annoying aspect is that you have to upload a selfie and a scan of your passport just to register. Not sure if that's just an internal policy or a requirement within OSL's jurisdiction when it comes to Bitcoin transactions, but it will definitely scare off potential buyers. I just hope that this isn't the start of a more global attack on merchant related crypto transactions, which would be a bummer for sure.

I'd like to see how their normal sales went with similar demands.

I just check some of Hublot Watches and when I see prices in BTC my assumption regarding possible prices of this watch was obviously quite wrong. This Big Bang limited edition could easily have the price between 50 BTC and maybe even 100 BTC.

Although no images of the watches in question have been published yet, we can imagine what those guys in Hublot are capable of. Here’s how Hublot Big Bang Ferrari Brasil Limited Edition looks like:

Very likely that there will be BTC sign instead of the Ferrari's prancing horse. Smiley

Since it’s also a limited edition the price can be similar, from $29,000 to $48,000, or from 4.5 BTC to 9.4 BTC at the current BTC/USD rate.

Imo, rich people who are not Bitcoin holders will be buying BTC in order to purchase the collectible watches. Which is a good thing overall.

Imagine that... You have a limited amount of "hoarders" with enough bitcoins to buy these watches and some of them are

very private and anonymous individuals. These guys want to "identify" these people with all their silly KYC requirements to be

able to buy these watches. They obviously do not know what Bitcoin stand for and how important financial privacy is for Crypto

holders. I will not buy this, even if I can afford this.  Angry

There are ways to buy anything including this watch and remain anonymous. People who can pay half million $ or more for watch, can definitely buy anonymity as well.

Only 210 pcs? I bet that none of this forum would ever get their hands on it. It's obvious that it will be overprice because it's only limited. Those multimillionaires might already reserved their own before it even got shown to the public.

Looking forward to it. Did not even find a picture yet. But if the design is good, it will be a good sale, I'll try to get one.

No official images for the watch itself, the best thing so far is the renders given by their official website, all I can say is that it will still be the same Hublot Big Bag product line watch but this one will be inspired by Bitcoin (just like how other limited ed. Big Bang watches they have). There is really nothing special about the watch for us common people but if you are either a collector or a whale or even just a rich guy wanting to buy limited edition watches this might be a good buy. You are actually buying a a piece of art commemorating BTC and its success.

If the price is right, I will buy one.

Considering that it is a pretty exclusive and very limited timepiece, it will be priced to reflect exactly that. Weird that they don't up front state what the price is.

It's pretty hype focused to attract a new (I assume an above average) group of customers, which is a smart move for the company, but I rather save up some money to buy myself a 1BTC Casascius physical Bitcoin.

This watch will probably end up being listed for sale on eBay or this forum as collectible a couple of months later. They should have loaded up each watch with a certain amount in Bitcoin, which would attract way more interest.

Or in case it's legally not possible to ship loaded collectibles everywhere, then allow people to fund it themselves. Hublot could have done a much better job marketing this watch like that in my opinion.

The majority of Bitcoiner doesn't haven't so much money to buy a luxury watch. Bitcoin or not it is still a luxury product which not everyone can afford to buy. There will surely some persons who will buy it but it will be the riches still. It will be a collectibles watch not for your everyday uses.

I do not see the price anywhere, but it can be assumed it will not be cheap since it is limited edition, so maybe 1BTC or something like that. However as
1Referee noticed to buy this watch user need to register and give quite a lot of data, obviously they do not want criminals to buy this watch Smiley

But even after you register process is not finished, user need to sign an agreement with OSL and after that maybe they will be able to buy this watch. I am not sure is this have anything with some new rules when paying with crypto, but if merchants implement such procedure it will be big step back for BTC as currency.
