I must disagree, If Lakers pursue Kawhi they'll need to free some salary cap. Given the status of Leonard right now, he's a star *eventually* and he's agent or himself will secure a good deal or a much better offer than SAS. Given the possible scenario, Lakers can't afford to cut off Kuzma and Ingram just to open up some cap for Kawhi. Both players are young and athletic, it would be really hard for the Lakers which is which.
This just a revelation of what attitude that Leonard had, no loyalty to the ones that bring him to this status. One thing is for sure now, only a miracle can stop the Spurs from being eliminated in the first round.
Just to contradict your claim. Kawhi works hard to earn his status and the respect of each and everyone especially the SAS management. Loyalty? He will be a free agent this 2019, I doubt that SAS will try to re-consider him again, given that he only played for 9-ish games this season due to his (mysterious, they say) quad injury. In addition, If Kawhi already made his mind to join other teams, the only thing that SAS can do to keep him is to offer him a max contract, let's say $200M worth of contract.
