Agreed, I've also noticed that, it's very obvious that teams are winding down after a long season and playoffs are around the corner so the pace is a little slower than usual (and closer to what we'll see on playoffs...)

Like in 2012-13 playoffs, Oklahoma got the first spot in the West and really unstopabble and strong that season. But in the second round they got stomped by the rank 5 Memphis with a standing of 4-1.
That 8th seed championship came in the Rockets back in '94 as far as I know during Hakeem Olajuwon's prime. So yeah, everything is possible in the playoffs. Best case scenario we have the 8th seed devouring the top seeded team.
