I've been looking now at rx480, and I think I'm going to build a rig with 6 of those and some other cheapo parts.

I can't find much info about nvidia cards, unless someone knows of a site that I don't know about.

or 4x GTX 1070, it may be a better option in case ETH will switch to PoS

You wait for a few days and see the performance of the Etheruem. If the hard fork is successful, you can buy some.

Buy some alt coins and sell it after 3 months. You could get a better ROI

How would you invest your $2200 if that had to be in crypto?

Honestly, I would probably go scrypt or x11.  This is just for fun so I'm not worried about losing the money.

Fun ride in crypto for $2200? Buy btc and throw some 0.1 everywhere. Most of them die but some don't.

If I had to put $2200 in crypto right now I would buy dcr and then pos mine it. But that is just me.

mmh not sure it is a good thing, but in the past with decred it was possible to do 0.5 btc/month with just 1k decree now you can only do 0.3 btc/month with 2k decree

by the time you reach 1/4 or half of your roi time you will do much less than that, at some point you will be forced to sell your decred, hoping that they are not undervalued...

But it is doing that with zero watts -_-

yeah but roi too slow, and you can not compare to gpu, because an altcoin is very susceptible t the market, it's unstable its value can tank in no time like it happened when it was at 600k satoshi

right now you would have lost 50% of your investment...

Only in btc world. You bought at $1200?

I have been running one test rig for the last four months. 5 btc was invested for hardware and another 5 btc for pos so 10 btc for that one rig. Btc was about one gtx 970 back then.

in the 7 days ago the price for dcr drop up to 70%, i think the best alt right now is eth

If there is a problem with the hard fork of the Etheruem, it could be worthless. So it is better to wait and see.

So then let me ask you guys this.  I've also been looking around at Scrypt ASICS, and found the A4 Dominator.http://www.innosilicon.com/html/news/14.html

If I were to purchase this, how would the profitability of this device be affected?  Calculating what I would be able to earn from a pool is something I don't fully understand, and from what I have been thinking, the calculators assume solo mining.  Is this correct?

I'm basing my possible purchase on whattomine.com's calculator and bitmakler.com's calculator answers.

DASH has their own forum, not a lot of talk about it here much less support.

Since my first post https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/may-i-ask-for-help-gpu-toolsresources-1554177 I've scoured the forums regarding ASIC's, GPU's, Ethereum, X11, namely everything that is currently popular.  To be honest, I feel that my opinion about Ethereum is that I should not be investing the money due to the PoS that is to take place soon. I believe this to be so due to my understanding of PoS and that I do not have enough Ethereum to be able to function when PoS occurs (please explain this if I'm incorrect. I'm here for a learning experience first before wanting to turn a profit).  But I do not want to rule out being able to GPU mine another altcoin if it's possible to mine another coin for some pocket change here and there.

I've also become interested in X11 and possible purchasing an ASIC miner, considering they are now being seen.  But looking around for DASH, either I'm looking in the wrong places, or I feel there isn't much support/involvement around it.

Please keep in mind that I am doing this as a hobby with some expendable income, turning a small profit would be great. That's the fun of it right?

I have played around with CCminer just to practice on my laptop, in addition to Minergate, CPUminerd, and CPUminer.  This was all just to learn the idea of crypto-currencies and how they work on just a personal level. Learning with these tools, I feel that I am able to take the next step.

I appreciate everyone's knowledge in this forum.  It's truly a lot to take in, but a pleasure to learn from everyone.

Thank you
