I don't really see what the benefits really are with the extra security of 2FA.

No one is going to lose any money if there account is hacked or password is lost.

Many people make money here on BitcoinTalk by participating in Signature Programs. Practically losing an account means losing money.

bitcointalk really needs 2FA...my account was just hacked by someone in Turkey, they gained access to both my bitcointalk/email and effectively changed the email on file on the account/password thus locking me out completely. I've messaged Cyprus about recovering my account but for users that did not have a bitcoin address set up or had PGP key in place, they are SOL. very frustrating as i've had the account since 2014 and I have no way of recovering it.

Even without 2FA it is highly secure. Quite often users from newbie accounts create thread stating that their account got hacked. This issue is not much of the security concern or the 2FA into implementation. This happens most of the time due to the careless of the respective user of the particular account.

Bumping this thread in hope that some forum moderators see this. I expect answer why this has not been done yet. Addition of 2FA shouldn't cost too much so where is the problem?

Checking this thread in 2018, can't believe we still don't have something like 2FA.  The thought of legendary member and project team accounts being hacked makes me cringe a little.  Hopefully we'll see 2FA implemented sometime soon.

It seems administrators aren't interested in that solution.
How long this forum will still at stone age?
That's a good question

seems like a must have feature. I keep seeing all this account hacking in the Meta section. This will prevent that!

If 2FA cant be put on this forum then a 2nd idea could be making logins only via email rather than username.  I'm no security expert but hackers already have all the login username for taking random shots to hack anyone on this forum.  I know before 2fa the exchange BTC-e used to have username logins and changed it to email for this reason.

I also like this idea.it's an awesome idear for empower 2FA to give clients the accommodation that their bitcointalk record won't be broken or hacked by flighty individuals.
that's right with danya 2FA will add good security features and provide more level of comfort to the user.
it seems that just relying on passwords and emails is not enough to make our account safe so there is no harm if there are other 2FA features.

I'm with two hand for 2FA. In past months Digital Section is filled with hacked Hero/Legendary accounts.
For example I have 1-2 years old staked address, but the procedure is too slow in case of a problem.

Can someone explain the benefits of 2FA in a forum setting?

Yes, I'm also think like this, what you get with 2FA, safety??  Huh Huh I don't think so, just what we need is very good password and checking location from which you access to your account.

Try to be simple, don't complicate.
There's nothing complicated about 2FA. And it can also be optional, so people can freely choose whether or not they want to use it.

But right now the forum doesn't even need you to require a password change via email, otherwise hacks would be pointless.

I have no hopes for 2FA or anything meaningful on this forum at this point. It doesn't seem like the devs or mods care. I tried to regain control of a thread I've created in the local forums after getting hacked and even that was completely ignored by a mod despite a polite and well-explained inquiry.

I have proven the ownership of my hacked account as well and have not gotten any sort of response in over a month. The email hasn't been changed either apparently, but it still won't let me to restore the password via email.

It's quite interesting that nobody seems to care about anything on here and I wouldn't be surprised if a substantial amount of fresh investors got deterred from Bitcoin entirely solely by strolling through this forum. There's definitely no surprise that some billionaire investors proclaim that Bitcoin itself is a pyramid scheme or scam if they went through this place as reference...

Hopefully the admins actually care and will do something about this situation, but since 2FA has been requested for such a long time that seems unlikely. There's absolutely no quality control in posts either and people just deliberately spam and copy paste absolute garbage throughout the entire forum.

Very sad to see what BCT turned into over the years.

2FA would certainly be a very good addition to the forum but I doubt that it will be added in the near future. The best way to secure your account is to keep your anti-virus up to date and to not click on random links.
