Not sure if those old miners support High DAGS?

One miner you could check is Genoils old ethminer?

Genoil seems long gone but..

ETH DAG was moved from HDD to VRAMs

v4.0:

- no DAG files anymore.
- removed "-dir" option.
- Bug fixes.

you all might wanna try old claymore ETH miner below version 4.0

take a look...might work or might not.

Interesting, that Dag creation for 4gb cards gives a pain, well if it is working it will gives a constant relief to us and to all rx 570 4gb user, by the way since this is an old version of claymore, do you think that the old amd driver will work for it? How about blockchain driver?

i don't know...only experimentation will solve this question.

looked at the readme.txt

This miner is free-to-use, however, current developer fee is 2.5%, every hour the miner mines for 90 seconds for developer.
If you don't agree with the dev fee - don't use this miner.

This version is for recent AMD videocards only: 7xxx, 2xx, 3xx and 4xx, 2GB or more.

There are builds for Windows x64 and for Linux x64 (tested on Ubuntu 12.04). No 32-bit support. No NVidia support.

LOL at 2.5 dev fee,

file name is "Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v3.1 Beta - Catalyst 15.12.zip" ...that's the driver most of the time it works with later driver versions up before "crimson drivers"

rx 570 is just a refresh of rx 470, so it might work.

Hmmm, looks interesting, I might be the one who will try your method mate and since that the RX 570 4gb series is now on the brink of deteriorating in mining ETH/ETC because of DAG, now if it is your method fixing your old gpu's dag problem, it might be the solution of this coming dag that can kill the rx 570 4gb..

will not work if the DAG reach the 4gb. Or have a technical background and can explain how you will take more than 4GB in a 4GB card? can you tell me how? no? because it is not possible!!!! Roll Eyes

currently 26th august 2020 and this trick still working on ethereum rigs.

I did install my r9 290x 4gb as gpu1 (phoenix miner) under Hive Os, plus 4 R9 270x 2gb and they just work fine. I also had to tune it a lil'bit (command lines added -rvram 1, -dagrestart 0, -lidag 3, -eres 0) = this gives almost 108Mh/s ^_^

Screenshot to prove? 2Gb cards cannot load a 3.8 GB big DAG. So you are mining an other coin then ETH. And those old cards has another problem to, speed decrease with every new DAG epoch, so you can not do real 108mh my friend.

Well, there actually was a R9 270X which had 4GB of GDDR. I think it was made by Sapphire, so its possible that he can still mine ETH with a 270X and might of just done a typo when he said 2GB.

However even if the 4GB actually loaded the DAG, it had other issues with thrashing and while R9 270X mined at 15MH/s back in 2016, I am sure now it would mine probably at 7MH/s or so due to that bug. This is similiar to what happened with the R9 280X GPUs back in 2016, they mined at 22MH/s and later in 2018, they mined at like 12MH/s and no fix was issued.

That's not a typo when specially still indicating that he insert the 4GB card in the first slot  Roll Eyes. And if he means 4GB 270X, than he cannot mine with 108Mh ETH, because of the HARDWARE BUG, which decrease ETH mining speed with every new DAG epoch. And there is no fix it, because HARDWARE BUG.
And you will see, that he never will show us a screenshot.

by the way 4x 15mh (270x hashrate back in 2016, today it is 7mh when they are 4GB cards) + 30mh to 32mh (back in 2016, today around 20mh) = 92mh max and this only back in 2016.

Windows 8.1 GTX1050Ti is mining ETC/ETH without any problem. Overall video memory  consumption of this card is 3815 Mb (according to GPU-Z). Epoch 350 with DAG size 3.58 Gb. First card is internal GPU, second - RX584 (with Robinhood drivers, Vmemory usage=3677 Mb).

Theory says yes. but I haven't tried it, I found a video and it seems to work

nice nice
i am going to give this a try
going to use gpu0 for vega 56 and gpu1 gpu2 for zotac gtx 1060 3gb

Won´t work lol. 3GB cards cannot mine ETH or ETC. The video is to old for a true DAG problem. The guy has not raised his virtual memory and he fix this with a 8GB GPU XD lol

I tested:

6 Cards
5x 1050ti with 4 GB
1x 1060 with 6GB

Not working.

I heard someone that they can still mine with 4gb cards without an 8gb card by switching to Phoenix miner and use Linux OS as it use less DAG Epoch.

Look at this log that I get from SMOS.

Quote
phoenixminer-v4.9b (Added support for AMD RX5500. Fixed problem with loading NVML library with the latest Nvidia drivers. Fixed problem introduced

RX5500 has 4gb memory and it works with phoenix v4.9b so my guess is if you use phoenixminer the latest beta version of phoenixminer 4gb cards will work.

Can you try to use SMOS without 8gb card?

as the dag is more than 3gb now but less than 4gb
so will it work only for cards that have 4gb or 3gb cards will work too using this method
like i have gtx 1060 3gb and i know they cannot mine eth and etc anymore
but do you think i can use a vega 56 as first card and two gtx 1060 3gb after that and run the miner?

I haven't tried this with newer cards like the RX 470 however I had this issue back in 2016 when some of my 2GB GPUs failed to mine ETH anymore.

I think I had a few R9 270X GPUs which were all 2GB and mixed with some R9 280X which were 3GB and some R9 290 which were 4GB. I learnt this by accident but if I had a 3GB GPU in the Slot0 of the motherboard (basically x16 3.0 slot) and I had the 2GB GPUs in the other slots, it would work. If it was the other way around it wouldn't.

This was with Claymore under Windows 7 so I am assuming it shouldn't be any different these days with the current version of Claymore and under Windows 10.
