That thermal design is laughable and has 120w+ in fans alone.  I'm really wondering who thought it was a great idea to just stack a bunch of their Singles on top of each other and then put a wall of fans on either side.  From that picture the airflow looks abysmal.

Meanwhile avalon dissipates ~500w with 20w of 120mm fans.

I have to say I don't think BFL is a scam but there tactics are definitely scam-like.However,after reading this I do think there products will hit the market and likely the difficulty as well.

Making the BFL picture smaller than the Avalon picture is great for emphasizing your point ...

Come on, Crazyates, you can't be that retarded! You do realize that BFLs heatsink looks smaller in the picture because it is substantially smaller than Avalons?

- Avalons come in a casing the size of a PC (Midi-Tower) -> room for huge heatsinks
- BFL Single SCs come in a casing with size 10cm x 10cm (approx) -> only room for a tiny heatsink

The little box on the lower right is a BFL Single SC:

... and here is an Avalon miner:

Making the BFL picture smaller than the Avalon picture is great for emphasizing your point, but it's not quite relevant to the final product. As long as the temp is lower than Avalon's, I'm all set

Even my BFL Single doesn't get to 50C on the heatsink. Who knows what the actual chip temps are.

Sadly that 160W was only at 34GH/s IIRC.

So it's 280W for 60GH/s. Slightly above the 60W BFL promised.

Way above target, but still lower than Avalon. I want to see what the final numbers are.

Thing is: Avalon can handle the heat. BFL? 280W with a heatsink the size of a CPU cooler? Not so sure ...

Can you spot the difference?  Wink

New test video from BFL shows one of their SC boards running at 160W (167% over target): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C4bgho5JSI

At this point I don't even care. Just start getting them out the door to people who want them, and then make it up to them later by swapping to the fixed product. The difficulty is low enough where power consumption doesn't much matter (and will be for a while)..just look at Avalon Cheesy

Is BFL is the most elaborate April Fools joke ever?

I shudder to think of the massive amounts of money that could have been made simply by buying BTC @ ~$5 each (last year around June) and holding them instead of pre-ordering a mini-rig from BFL.

$30,000.00 / $5 is 6000 BTC, which at today's value would be $546,000.00. Grats on missing out on half a million dollars.
Just think, what if BFL horded their BTC?

Well I bought a 1500gh/s rig and a 60gh/s rig from them....
No risk no reward man....
And I bought a PrimeAsic 80gh/s machine and 2 Avalon ASICs 85gh/s

The big announcement is they are testing and tho they hash at the proper hash rate the power consumption is higher than they state which I believe they are fixing.
You guys should be a little more patience as I'm sure they mentioned almost posting a video of the test and said they will this weekend. This is a tough market to be in and it's gonna work. Just don't be the last to buy and be left on an island talking to a volleyball once they prove to work. Hey, everyone doubted Abalon ASIC from the start. Had you not and bought 30 of them for 1200 you would be dancing around naked. But hey they cost $8k now..
Get ready, the crow is cooking and almost ready to eat.

1.810TH/S of Mining soon... What shall I buy?
Hmmmmmmm maybe a unicorn to go next to the table with my machines?
Wink

Still 1.7W/GH/s still isn't bad (assuming I read that correctly...still early here Cheesy).

It's just the casing, heatsink and fan are not designed for so much heat.

So don't be surprised if you smell burnt plastic 30 seconds after you turned your BFL ASIC on - and a big flame after 60 seconds ...  Grin

indeed  7 months late arpil few days away

then comes  cock lover josh aka inaba aka eclipse mininnig scumm

and says well we maneged to make soem chips workd at 200 watts

just so we can say we cshippend somehting

but cant comit to shipping date as of yet

Link to update

Summary: They claim to now have working prototypes, but the problem is that the power consumption is missing their goal of 1W/GH/s by 70%+. The units weren't designed for such high power requirements, so they have to underclock them, thus reducing the hashrate.

So, I wonder which charity or charities will be the lucky recipient(s) of 1000 BTC?

Bummer. Not sure if anyone knows this, but how far are they underclocking the ASICs? My guess would be back to the initial 40GH/s they advertised during the first months.

FAKE_BFL_UPDATE - BFL got the chip working and they are pleased to announce that they have met their power requirements of 1GH per Watt and hence will NOT have to pay any BTC to charity Tongue

.. oh and shipping will commence around mid april = start of may...  second waffer and all other chips have been bumped so basically BFL will just unleash 100's of TH on the network at once so no one will get any ROI or advantage... but it OK as BFL met their target and produced an ASIC so don't get a scammer tag
