Odd that even though our hash rate is up, we don't seem to be finding blocks much faster.

I get that feeling too, it's like extra hash power only dwindles rewards, while not adding speed.
Recentlywe dropped back to 12th/s and luck was very good.

It's like those latest additions are doing empty work / pretend to be working.

Yes, I know that sounds dumb, but still.

Great I added 10 USB ASIC about a week ago and now I am back down to 0.015 a block again. :S meh

10 is only 3gh/s?? which would have been around .0055x a block so u must have 6gh/s from other stuff?

Yes I have other miners as well many GPUs and a couple FPGAs about 12 GH/s.

Check it out the drop....... Hope we find more blocks faster today.

Since I have a farm of GPUs I am planning on switch to Litecoin by the end of this summer while my FPGAs and ASICs (Block Erupter) with continue to mine bitcoin.

For me, the LTC and BTC mining reward is below as my electricity cost.

Time to abandon Bitcoin full stop unless your rich, a banker invested business or funded by mummy and daddy. (joking) entire rigs have been wiped out in hours, value is dropping, why bother? the only hope is that they are worth a huge amount in 5 years or so because people are not going to be attracted by this lunacy, only deterred.

I have created a spread sheet with future prediction on difficulty, network hash rate and mining device profitability..Hope it helps everyone.
If any mistake found, please let me know...

Approx. cluster performance (30 min average): 18053.110 Ghash/s. It's getting crazy...

@ the current rate even newbies couldn't afford enough ASIC to mine sufficiently, what good is a £300 4.5GH/s K16 when it will be no more profitable than an nvidia gpu would be against AMD gpu. x10 k16 boards might get something but not enough to justify the 3k spent on equipment, no newbies will mean no widespread use of Bitcoin, no widespread use means the end of something very promising. ASIC...the Rothschild of cryptocurrency.

Total network hash rate has jumped by nearly 10% to over 154Thash/s since last night. Diff estimated to increase to over 18 million by Sunday.

Now this is interesting ! Asicminer activating a lot of new block erupters out of the factory ?
I wanted to invest in asic but as I said in another post I think that very soon 50gh/s will be the minimum to hash so I will refrain and sadly just watch very soon :/

I feel the same way.  With the pace at which the Hash rates are increasing, I just don't have enough funds to acquire the hardware to keep mining with a reasonable profit margin.  I'm guessing I'll have to shutdown buy the end of the year since I probably won't make enough to offset the cost of electricity and I'm running FPGAs.  I wonder how hard this is hurting the GPU miners. This is pretty depressing  Embarrassed and in the long run, such a huge jump might actually be detrimental to the bitcoin economy.  I know many people compare this to the switch from CPU mining to GPU mining, but that's somewhat different.  In the case of going from CPUs to GPUs, GPUs are readily available at any computer store.  ASICS on the other hand are hard to acquire.  Look at the questionable bidding wars over the erupter blades and USBs.  GPU prices never got that out of hand.  This huge jump could in fact alienate many newcomers and result in the dissolution of the bitcoin network.

The other huge difference is power consumption. I've ran a quite decent GPU mining farm from 2011 and I sold it quite some time ago. Anyways, the transition will be hard that's evident but I welcome it. On the long run it'll be beneficial for bitcoin in my opinion.

Also, running any GPU mining farm requires time and some technical knowledge. On the other hand ASICs are plug and play -----> a lot more people will be interested and have a chance for entering the mining scene.

Throwing 250-300 mhash/s

Is that with a HD 5850 ?

yes, I'd either be mining or doing other stuff so overall electrical usage is negligible.

My HD5850 started stock at 260mh/s and is now running at 391mh/s Wink
Oc it !

I alternate between BTC and LTC mining; so an OC for one would not be ideal for the other.
That aside, I'm waiting to see what magic AMD brings for HD8000/9000 [whatever they call it] =)

Odd that even though our hash rate is up, we don't seem to be finding blocks much faster.

the 4,000gh/s jump technicially wouldnt make a noticeable increase in finding blocks anyhow....
however it has made a massive decrease on my rewards!
last 2 blocks with this increase are like 2 of my miners got deleted... this is the future...

The estimate is already at 18.5M according to bitcoindifficulty.com

Interesting times Smiley

it was at 21.2 when the last diff went up, so 18.5 is pleasing to see

this one has 19.9 estimate
