Sigh, bad luck coupled with payouts .25 to .5 of normal. How's the song go? Should I stay or should I go now?

I'm not complaining either, just also scratching my head too (I think a bit more hair came out when I did)

It all seems a little odd, and confusing to a noob like me.

I just think we have had a run of really bad luck recently - compounded by the run of really good luck, right before it, making it seem worse.

Something fucked up. Yes yes I know its score based, not per share, but my miner has been mining constantly, no problems, I litter ally monitor every minute (especially when it takes 5 hours for a block, I'm eager to see when is the next block). But I got HALF of my regular reward on the last block.(also demonstrated by amount of of shares, even tho its score based...)

It would be useful to be able to make info about reoccurring issues sticky / always on top. Currently, there is a massive volume of post only marginally related to pool issues, which makes finding info you are looking for rather demanding.

YES, there is only finite numbers in integer, so this has to be done. it doesnt have too much effect on youre payout if the block is found tho, dont worry

NO, getwork is deprecated (obsolete, old, not used) protocol and this number only show amount of ppl still using it. It doesnt affect on pool because 98% is on stratum.

, NO, you should not. because of the pool hopping cheat (try search, google yahoo etc), Slush's pool pays more from recent shares than from the older shares (10 minute old shares pays next to nothing).

NO, it doesnt matter individual reward is based on YOURE GH/s againt difficulty per XYZ period of time, (pools hasrate goes up, youre reward per block reduces but pool find more blocks if the difficulty stays the same. etc...)

DARN, block finding is based on luck (even tho more GH/s makes more lottery tickers). You can check pool's luck from the stats page if youre that concernt.

Use startum I dont even bother getting into details, in short use bfgminer/cgminer.

Well its the INTERNET, even tho services has great percentage of service, they have downtimes
register to bitminter/btcguild/50btc/whateverpool and set it as youre backup pool (bfgminer/cgminer does this with ease).

Because someone else found it first (and before our pool got info from it), around 1,5% of blocks found actually turn out to be invalid. it happens.

Im sure theres plenty more "hard to understand" things I missed, google, search forums etc... Please dont clutter this thread with same questions over and over and over and over and over and over again.

I am still relatively new to this - only been mining for about 8 weeks, and what with working 6 days a week, haven't had much time to get to grips with the ins & outs.

Yes, this has been covered a couple of times. Score resets are performed periodically so no arithmetic overflow happens.
There were some comments around re-normalization versus reset, the first one being more correct while the second one easier to implement and quicker to perform.
Another approach to eliminate an arithmetic overflow is using a logarithmic scale, but that would also need changes to how rewards are currently calculated.

Some time ago there were indications Slush is planning to switch to DGM. See here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/double-geometric-method-hopping-proof-low-variance-reward-system-39497 - the post also describes recommendations around eliminating the possibility of arithmetic overflows, in one prefers to read up on the topic.

Never seen pool luck for the month below 95% damn 

On a side note, the amount of people that have been mining here for more than a little while that dont know how the scoring system works at all continues to amaze me.

if this keeps up, i'm gonna start drinkin' again.

Estimated Reward: 0.00006771 BTC for 5 hrs of mining. Oh joy =/

EDIT: It is stepping up quite quickly now though. Doubled in 5 mins.

Estimated reward has dropped to about 0.5% of normal.

Is the score supposed to reset part way through finding a block?
