Back up to nearly the 40ph/s mark and "luck" has taken a steady dive over the last few days....

Yep..it really is unbelievable, wish somebody from Slush could provide some guidance on where they think the problem lies, has been a month now since Slush announced that they were going to look into the issue but since then nothing...is horrible to see this happen over and over again, always thought more hashing power was supposed to be a good thing!!

Well thats the problem.. slush is NEVER going to come out and tell you there was a problem if indeed he discovers what it is.. Reason is there will be no way to ever recover your loses.. If its an attack and not variance then you can just kiss the loss over the last 4months good bye!  Id say just move over to kano.. Your making such little amount anyway that i doubt you need to be paid every 4 -10 days,  Kano is actively working on a payout solution as his pool is growing and we get multiple payouts per day. Im sure he will address the dust payments aswell.. Maybe try going to Kano thread and ask him about it there. Im sure he will be happy to answer your question.  Please whatever you do try to support a smaller pool. Antpool and those of that size need to step it down a bit already!

I do see your point there, if the problem was affecting his pocket then I am sure he would be more proactive in determining what is going on...even if he were never to openly admit there was (or had been) an issue we would have seen a performance change by now, really is pretty rotten in the end. I am going to run my rigs on Slush until I eventually reach the next payout and then take another look at Kano...I must say that I read an exchange on his thread about the dust payments before and his response (basically that it was not a priority) kind of put me off; in comparison to the big miners of course dust does not matter but when you are only looking to mine .01 a week those dust payments become important. All of my earnings get automatically reinvested so the regular weekly payments that Slush used to generate are important for my model.

I do appreciate your comments and advice, will probably see you on Kano at some point!

To be blunt your "other real option" might be investing in a little more hash power (i.e. assuming you are mining as a hobby or for reasons comparable).
If there was some degree of transparency with this pool I might have stuck around, but sadly there is not and there also is little-to-no communication from the admin. Variance is one thing, but when there's a 7-10 PH/s hike and luck concurrently seems to plummet (and this becomes reoccurring or pattern-like) it's difficult to continue mining and just assume everything's working as normal.

I do appreciate what you are saying, it started as a hobby for me but the more I learn about BTC and the community the more involved I want to get. I have been giving some thought to upgrading equipment but I have a problem with the mining rigs that are presently on the market...I live in a flat which means noise is an issue...my 4 U3's are quiet and only noticeable when in the office...I considered selling the four off and replacing them with an S5 or S7 but of course the noise would most definitely be an issue. I live in Germany presently, most Germans are overly "sensitive" to noise pollution and they love to complain, not sure if the noise from a more powerful rig would cause problems with my neighbours. I have rented rigs a few times and pointed to Kano, just barely broke even on a one week rental and since then I have read that renting hash power is rarely a good idea.

It may end up in future that to participate in BTC I will have to buy directly with fiat or or some other method (anyone know of an exchange which converts precious metals to BTC for example)? The trust issue is still pretty discouraging in obtaining BTC for fiat. For now I like my setup and the little I earn helps me to explore BTC and the possibilities. When I started Slush was generating .01 every 4 days which worked for me, now it is ten days for a payout when the extra hashing power problem is present. Eventually I am hopeful I will find another pool or solution, for now it would just be nice to hear something constructive from Slush. Antpool takes about 5 days to generate the .01 so I will probably end up over there if nothing changes in the next few days, in the end because it is a hobby I would like to still give Slush a chance to explain though...the site does have a nice interface and the previous support was always top.

Find another pool with better luck, cant be so hard? Dont get it why you stay here..

As I wrote a few entries above it is not so easy...Kano is great (where I assume you are still) but with my low hashing power and Kano's rising popularity the dust limitation is a serious issue, the chinese pools are not for me so in the end Slush, when working, remains the best solution. I am hopeful that at some point soon Slush will speak up and let us know what they have determined is the problem...this trend, which is now clearly established, of significantly better luck with 33-34 PH as opposed to the 39-40 PH must be something they are aware of and from their side can investigate.

I suppose for the lack of any other real option I remain optimistic that Slush is being honest with the miners and is not engaged in something under-the-table as has been suggested here by others.

BTCDig - mining pool
I am looking for another pool to use with my hashrate just not enough to use some of the pools out there. i may just play the lottery and solo mine. i currently have between 40-60ghs so not enough for many of the other pools.

You can try https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/btcdig-us-servers-port-80-varuser-diff-dgm-0-fee-2-btc-bonus-249627, your hashrate is enough for our small pool.

Now the money is free, and so the people will be
Take a look at this simple spread sheet that I compiled to see a comparative picture of the impact of the mysterious hashrate from 14Dec2015 to 04Jan16. Hashrate above 35 PH are highlighted in red.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1z4TDQNI6GoiQxkcRw2kpR3EGcHEu3Kk2oBab6wYvPfQ/pubhtml

Looks like the whale is starting to pile his/her way back in...time to bail again?   With only 240 GH hashing power (4 U3's on a Raspberry), Slush was for the longest time the best option for my circumstances...was on Kano for a while (learned so much with the excellent communication) but of course it is not a pool really developed for small hashpower miners. I get a sick-in-the-stomach feeling whenever I am on Antpool but if Slush keeps roller-coastering up and down like this what options do we have?

Hmmm 240ghs yeah kano would be the best pool, but you have to make sure you make over the "dust" threshold per block or else you wont get paid.  i agree that kinda sucks

Kill the wale.

Or start mining at another pool, what can be worser ?
For me kano has worked out fine last two weeks, i think that eligius is also good.

WOW.. thanks for taking the time to compile that data for us.. I really appreciate that.. that sure makes the picture much more clear. as to the exact reason idk.. is it over inflating his hash or a nefarious miner. but damn that chart sure makes it more clear there is something to what we are saying..

Back down at 33 PH/s - will "luck" take a turn for the better again like it did last time a substantial amount of hash left the pool?

142% Day
85% Week
82% Month

33.24 Ph/s pool scoring hashrate.  Lets watch and see what happens now

So now that luck has turned around(for the day at least Roll Eyes ).. And the fact is either slush kicked the nefarious miner or he was over reporting hash or the miner saw dmjwards post lmao. either way lack of communication is what will be the demise of this pool.. Not any attack. Only time will tell if this is variance or an attack.. but now that the 10 peta miner left we can never know.. Only speculate.. speculation in the btc world is never usually good..

Slush one way you can help to provide transparency is to give us a page of miners by username and speed and the amount of blocks they find maybe just the top 100 miners or so .. Least the community can then watch the pool for you since you cant be troubled with it.. I guess 50 k$ a month isn't enough in fees to cover you taking 5 seconds to address your supporters??

Back down at 33 PH/s - will "luck" take a turn for the better again like it did last time a substantial amount of hash left the pool?

The one miner with 13.5 PH/s pointed 6 PH/s of his hash elsewhere.  Every time they do that, the pool finds more blocks.  Which has me wondering if that particular miner is withholding blocks when all of his hash is here to get people to move to other pools.  They do it for only a certain length of time before deciding to take their hash back to another pool to earn more coin and use the hash they left here to earn more coin.  Once they see people coming back to the pool again, they bring all their hash back and withhold blocks again.  Who knows for sure though?  Can only speculate...

I'm convinced to point my rigs elsewhere.  I got sick of mining in the blind with no updates from pool operators as to anything going on or taking place at the pool.  The code they use is not "open" for others to see it; which makes one wonder why?  They make no attempts to post updates in the forum or even on their website.  The occasional b/s posted on Facebook.  Why Facebook instead of their on "News" section on their website or in the forum?  There code used for the pool kept private is what turns me off the most.  It makes one wonder if they can actually be trusted.

I can appreciate the other pool I switched to in which the developers frequent the forum and provide updates almost several times daily as to activities going on with the pool.  The code they use is "open" for all to see so that you know there is no b/s in the mix.  With their code out in the "open," you also see if they know what they are doing.

That's my two cents...
