I believe the number will even be more because there are cases that are not counted for and was never heard.

I think The number you've stated is too high. These numbers were used to publicize the topic.Probably there are deaths from snake bites. It is very difficult to see real statistics for all countries, especially India.Generally I hate snakes

5,400,000 people bitten by snakes every year but only 1,00,000 people are killed, it means that not all snakes can kill us with their bite.

I'm not sure if governments can really make a change. They could start some campaigns for awareness and teach people how to protect themselves, but that's about it. In the regions of the world where there are a lot of snakes people should be more careful, but that doesn't actually solve the problem either.

Black mamba in Africa is known to be most dangerous snake. Inland taipan, cobras, vipers are other very dangerous/venomous snakes.

A mamba's bite will kill a man in 20 minutes. Mongooses make easy meal/food of mambas.

Snakes are cool.
I was surprised when I saw statistics according to which mosquitoes kill about 1500 people a day!
That's really impressive for real.

This is very sad, but what can the govt and people do to reduce snake bites and Aldo yo reduce the casualties?

Look on the other side, 5,300,000 people survive snake bites every year worldwide from medicines and treatment. Also Snakes kill millions of rats and mice every year.

am always sad by these kinds of news. I hate snakes to the extent that i really want to kill them and make them go to "whatdef##K" land they came from...No wonder it's written in the bible that man hates snakes...I know most animals have pity on children. Snakes don't care. THey would just come from nowhere and give you a bite. Am amazed by how powerful their poison turns out to be. Poor woman and child. AM really sorry for this tragedy

That day, a cobra ran away when the snake saw me coming  Grin

Yeah, that's true, but it does not mean it's less sad. In this day and age dying of a snake bite is just wrong. Governments should take better care of their people. Health care and prevention of this kind of things should be a priority.

That day 2 snakes were fighting 5 feet behind me.

Wow, this is so sad. Poor woman and that innocent kid. But I don't get it, how didn't she realize that she was bit?

8,000,000,000 people on Earth. There will be casualties. There are millions of people who live in forests and mountains or very close to the forests.

Yeah, that's true, but it does not mean it's less sad.

1,00,000 people are killed by snake bites each year worldwide.

A mother and her three-year-old daughter have been killed in India after the woman was bitten by a snake. Not realising she had been attacked, the woman began breastfeeding her child. Both died before they could reach a hospital. The news comes the same day as the World Health Organization declared snake bites a "global health priority". Between 81,000 and 138,000 people are killed by snake bites each year, with around half of all deaths in India.
