Their performance mining Ethereum is almost the same, the real difference begins with mining other algorithms so this is a decision only you can make, do you have interest to mine another algorithm besides Ethereum and hold? If yea goes with Nvidia the 6800 can mine ravencoin and a few others don't get me wrong but you will get the upper hand with the Nvidia, buy the AMD only if you see a very good price.
After the end of ethereum mining, both video cards will probably give a very small profit. Nvidia is better at mining some coins, AMD video cards are better at mining other coins, but probably more than 80% of video cards mine Ethereum.
16 GB memory is probably better than 8 GB in the future.
Since Ethereum get launched this is the second year that you can't mine ETH with 4GB anymore, its been many years so far, imagine if one has a 8GB graphic card lol, now that Ethereum is going PoS it doesn't matter anymore and its going to be tough to see another coin that will make 8GB graphic cards get expired.
What if a new coin appears that requires more than 8 GB of memory? It is beneficial for video card manufacturers to have miners buy new video cards. my old GTX 1070 video card has 8 GB of memory, and then it will be relevant for a long time, and this is unprofitable for Nvidia.
8GB memory out of the box? That's impossible, every new PoW coins needs loads of miners for difficulty to high right? The requirement is literally zero memory and slowly it climbs up with time, I think this is how every coins works.

That's right. I would not buy any video card for mining with less than 8GB of VRAM. I prefer 12GB or higher because of the dual mining potential.

Hi all,
wich gpu do you prefer, between the 6800XT and the 3070TI LHR, to mine coins other than ETH?
So for Sero, Ergo, Conflux, Raven ecc..?
Expecially considering that the LHR limit is not active for coins other than ETH, so the 3070Ti can exploits its full hashrate power.
Tnx!
I would buy an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT because this graphics card has no memory overheating issues and will work great out of the box. If you want to change thermal pads and possibly void your warranty, then buy the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. Stability in mining is much more powerful than 5-10% profit.
No way, I will buy RTX 3060s if the high temp on gddr6x is what I am trying to avoid, I can't deny the fact that Nvidia performs better than AMD in other algorithm, for example Conceal, Conflux and Flux are Nvidia friendly more than AMD, the only AMD gpu I like is those with HBM2 Memory, they do so well on Ergo mining e.g Vega 56 and 64.
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT also has no problems with overheating and it is more secure when mining the Ethereum, which can last until the end of the year. I would first look at prices, and made a better option for mining.

3) Who really knows what the future in mining will be? Why trying building for later? IF ETH isn't minable anymore, others coins/algo will be flooded by new hashrate so nothing will be profitable anyway, even on NVIDIA side. At least with AMD they will cost less to run.
GreedForce cards will decline less in value because they're good at other algorithms. Let's face it: GreedForce has higher gaming resale value than Radeon because gamers give NV higher brand recognition.
Very correct, in gaming part I've always be a AMD lover when HD series are still taking the lead with 6970 and 7970s, I was praising AMD Radeon at the time even though they have too many driver issues when gaming but the first time I tried a gtx750ti bro I knew I've missed a lot, it was waaaay better in gaming than Radeon cards, since that day I've started my journey with Nvidia graphic cards.

Buy more 3060Ti or 3070, AMD cards will perform lower once ETH PoW is deactivated, Nvidia works better on other algorithms that's why I make that only very few AMD cards are in my rigs, most cards I have are Nvidia, you can use AMD cards like 6600,6700,6800,6900 to mine Ravencoin and Flux but performance-wise it's not as good as their Nvidia counterparts.

I still prefer AMD for now, even if they perform worse on other algo. Why?

1) They use less watts /MH

2) They are not limited now (no LHR)

3) Who really knows what the future in mining will be? Why trying building for later? IF ETH isn't minable anymore, others coins/algo will be flooded by new hashrate so nothing will be profitable anyway, even on NVIDIA side. At least with AMD they will cost less to run.

For my 3070 Tis i have a stable temp of 85° keeping power limit under 200 and i read on the web, that for GDDR6 gpus, this temperature is perfect.
Indeed, for these gpus, the power throtling begins from a temperature of 110° i remember.
So it seems that the vram issues of the 3070Ti, are more a false belief.
The last time my RTX 3070 Ti shows 85°C was when I bought it as new, after two months of mining the GPU start going over 100°C this sacred me and I stopped using it for mining until I changed the thermal pads completely, the brand is one of the worst 3070ti out there, MSI, the EVGA brand are even better.

This is why I prefer GreedForce, unless the comparable Radeon card is selling for a steep discount. I built a RX 6800 rig last week only because I got the incredible deal of $552 each.

Ergo mining is forgiving on high memory usage.
I have no choice but to mine ERG on my RTX 3080 Ti. The VRAM temperature goes over 100° C with any other coin.

@Samaritanman do not buy the RTX 3070 Ti if you haven't got it already, that GPU will give you a headache later because they have high mem temp issue, if you aren't ready to spend money on high grade thermal pads do not buy it, LHR cards are good but choose them wisely, if I am in your shoe right now if prepare for mining without ETH because sooner or later ETH will be gone, go for 3060 and 3070 without the Ti.

I see that 6800XT is more powerfull in gaming than the 3070Ti, in most comparisons.
But in general, is the 3070Ti better to mine coins other than ETH, from what you write?
Correct. This is why I prefer the RTX LHR cards even if they are less power-efficient on ETH. I need to prepare for a post-ETH future.

But the RTX 3070 Ti won't be good at dual mining since it just has 8GB of VRAM. The RTX 3080/3080 Ti are not good because of the thermal pad issues. I would go with the RTX 3060 12GB for dual mining. I have a rig of 10 of these cards, and they get 43 Mh combined on ETH+CFX @ 130w.
The 3070Ti have thermal pad issues too just like the 3080s and 3090s, others with normal gddr6 are better e.g 3060 and 3070, very soon the LHR locked won't matter anymore, it will be story of the past, if you aredy have 3080 and you don't want to deal with thermal issue you can mine Ergo on them, Ergo mining is forgiving on high memory usage.

Thanks!
But keeping dual mining apart, considering that with other coins other than ETH, the LHR limit is not active, can i prefer hands down the 3070TI over all the others AMD gpus?
I have to take the 12th gpu in my 11 gpus rig and i'm deciding what gpu to buy between a 3070TI and a 6800XT or a 6700XT gpu.
Considering that the ETH coin will not be mineable soon anymore, i can ignore the LHR limit of the powerfull 3070TI and so buying this as my last gpu for my rig.
This is my 11 gpu list for now:

2X GeForce GTX 1080
1X Radeon RX 6600 XT
2X GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
3X GeForce RTX 3070 Ti
2X Radeon RX 6800 XT
1X Radeon RX 6700 XT

Which gpu do you reccomend me to buy, to mine all the others profitable coins such as erg, sero, conflux, vertcoin and so on?
Considering that dual coin mining makes sense under the LHR limit, to overcome it.
But if i mine other profitable coins, there is no reason to stress my gpus any further because all my nvidia gpus should mine at full hashrate.
Right?
