I posted it that thread too mprep Grin

I think everybody understands now, no need to take further action against anybody else in that thread. Unless theymos is willing to unban us then I guess the matter is closed.

The other thread was giving away bitcoin too I think so wasn’t technically breaking any rules.

Thanks.
Should any bans be issued for participating in that giveaway, I'd exclude any users already banned for this one as well those who applied while Bitcoin was being given away.

I usually ban users who participate in on-forum altcoin giveaways for 14 days. Considering that the thread was wrongfully posted in Games and Rounds (which doesn't change the fact that it's still against the rules), I can understand the ignorance of the rules related to the altcoin section but I cannot excuse it - hence a reduced ban duration for all participants. Unless there are circumstances I'm not aware of that would make this behavior not against (the spirit of) the rules, I do not intend to change my decision.

You are completely free to appeal it to theymos though, who can then decide whether the ban should be lifted either due you not breaking the forum's rules (and my interpretation of them being wrong) or if he decides that due to your contributions / history / etc. a ban isn't needed (since I'm not the policy maker on Bitcointalk, I don't feel comfortable making that decision).

<...>

Why not just delete the thread, a ban is too harsh imo. Can this be reversed?

There were loads of people posting in that thread. I hope I’m not the only one who got banned.

-img snip-
Everyone who participated got banned for 7 days. The creator of the giveaway was banned for 30 days. Banning both the giveaway organizer and any participants is standard practice, meant to harshly discourage participation in such topics.

<...>
Since when are you getting banned when taking part in a giveaway? I didnt spam, pm or do anything else.
From my experience, without banning participants, the ban on on-forum altcoin giveaways is essentially ineffective since one can run such giveaways using disposable accounts.

Spending countless hours in this forum, doing a lot for the community as well as trying to help whenever possible and then getting banned for 7 days for such a reason?
Rules apply to everyone. Whether your contributions excuse the offense is for theymos to decide. I try to avoid making subjective judgments in my moderation wherever possible and would rather delegate it to someone who has the final word on everything Bitcointalk, the head admin.

Thanks suchmoon!

Also I just noticed this ‘giveaway/competition’ thread ran for over a month. It was also in Games & Rounds but nobody got banned.

The (now trashed) thread in question was reported by a user. I've trashed the linked thread as well. Will wait on issuing bans until this situation gets resolved.

They're probably lucky they weren't temp banned a little closer to the end of the month when the DT1 voting eligibility criteria is in play - it could shake up the landscape quite a bit for a month depending on the participants temp banned.

Nope, it's Bitcoin. Basically if your balance on 777 is empty, you could post in that thread to get it replenished.

if giveaways are banned why hasn't it been?

Altcoin giveaways are banned. Is it an altcoin giveaway?

To be honest I've never looked - there's three or four threads for the 777Coin/Casino I've posted in the related SigCamp thread and I don't recall ever posting in that linked above thread (feel free to prove me wrong) - I think you get a credit at the Casino after posting your username details??  (Don't shoot the messenger)

Honestly speaking, that thread serves no purpose other than those posters fulfilling their quota. The admin doesn't replenish the balance at all, despite the opposite being mentioned on the 777 site.

Even before I signed up for a SigCamp I was surprised at the sheer number of mindless posters who participate in campaigns.  Having to scroll through the campaigns' [ANN] threads II've found is even worse as there are many many people who just don't know what [CLOSED] [CFNP] [HALTED] [SUSPENDED] means - they still try to sign up.

Which leads me into this question:

This thread: █ ★☆★777Coin★☆★ █ ✔ Full Range of Games ✔ Instant Withdraw ✔ Free mBTC! seems to have been giving away funds for the last six years - if giveaways are banned why hasn't it been?  (and yes, I may be bighting the hand that feeds me, but if one is out, then all are out, otherwise LFC_Bitcoin and co should NOT have been banned!)

- take the opportunity to go outside
Lol that's just mean!

Well... of course one should comply with the laws and rules and edicts currently in place (you'd think someone banned for not following rules doesn't need to be reminded of that) so if there is a curfew and armed forces on the streets then maybe don't go outside. But most places still allow responsible enjoyment of outdoors, use the chance while you still can is what I'm saying.

Where’s the consistency?

What yahoo62278 said... not everything gets noticed and it's up to each of us to ensure the consistency, i.e. report rule violations to mods, or in this case perhaps someone could have warned bitcasino.io that this is not allowed and the whole thing could have been avoided. At the end of the day, it's the campaign/giveaway managers who should be responsible for knowing the rules and not putting their participants at risk of getting banned.

...

I would have thought banning the convenor of the competition or as you suggest deleting the thread would have been a more appropriate course of action - am sorry the mods have been so draconian with you.  (they can be a very targeted group when they want to be)

...

Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections.......Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections.....

The thread was in Games & Rounds.

It wasn’t in the Alt Sub.

While I do think mass bans are a bit too harsh for this, particularly for a first offense...

  • I'm getting a feeling that some here think the ban is unfair because of who was banned (well known users). That shouldn't matter. If anything, being forum veterans you should be expected to lead by example as far as following rules and shit.
  • I find it quite ironic that some die-hard bitcoiners got banned for shitcoining.

I hope y'all get unbanned but if not - take the opportunity to go outside, I'm hearing good things about it. It's just 7 days. Will be over in no time (in 7 days to be more precise).
Glad I read comments, I was just about to say something close to what you just posted. Although I think the ban should be limited to the user that posted the thread, not the users who posted thinking it was legit.

Thanks suchmoon!

Damn, the forum is really taking this quarantine thing seriously.

Really, its dumb to temp ban the participants of a giveaway thread in Games & Rounds, or anywhere for that matter. The mod should just delete the thread and temp ban the thread creator.

It seems like a very strange move on your sig campaign's part to ask members to do something like this. Was it a polite request or was there some implied pressure? I'd refuse to do it simply because I don't want my unread replies bit polluted.

Knowing jeremypwr it was probably just a polite notification that there was a contest was going on.

On-forum altcoin giveaways aren't allowed on any board. Games and Rounds allows thousands of posts in a thread for a very small amount of Bitcoin, but it has to be Bitcoin.
The number of victims/mistakes proves that, this is a confusing rule. Just trash such kind of topics so that general users do not get affected.

I agree, and I think a modification of that specific rule is needed to prevent further more confusion. even I thought, joining an alt-coin give away on games and round is allowed.

This is a mess. I see a lot of good users are ban because of this. I was in the same position few months ago but difference was that I was not participating but made a post for some other reason however I was banned too. Later mprep unbanned me.

Regarding the rules, I think this rule should not be applied such a way. I see a lot of users were talking about trashing it when such thread appears and this is the right thing to do imho. I am lucky that I did not see the topic at all or I would join since it's was from bitcasino. With bitcasino.io and sportsbet.io I have good relation and I never miss anything that come from them.

Point is I would do the same mistake even after I was banned not very long ago. This rule just do not click in the mind. Also it's very hard to identify which is a giveaway, at-least for me.

On-forum altcoin giveaways aren't allowed on any board. Games and Rounds allows thousands of posts in a thread for a very small amount of Bitcoin, but it has to be Bitcoin.

imo, the rule should be changed or overwritten. As you said, it was on Games and Round, it's not your fault. A moderator should check the previous history of that thread if possible before going such mass ban.
It would be better if the appeal is accepted and unban everyone.

Maybe just trashing the threads is enough in these situations, but contact mprep about it as he's the mod of the alt board and often the one who issues bans for giveaways.

My main account khaled0111 has been temp banned too for the same reason.
What I can't understand is that the giveawy thread was in the Games and Rounds sub-section and I don't see how replying there could be against forum rules.

Maybe it can be appealed on these grounds if so.

Months ago, a big guy in Bitsler or Sportsbet.io's campaign was banned for nearly the same rule-breaking post in a thread that run a altcoin-giveaway. That user was banned immediately when the thread he joined was deleted by moderator. All users joined that thread were banned too (7 or 14 days, not sure and I tried to remember who is the case). I will let you know if I find him.

I think you are referring to BitcoinGirl.Club or  previously known as Pamoldar.

But I do agree, established members are affected.

Here is a post from Theymos,

Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections. From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.

Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here.

Unfortunately the reason for the temporary bans is the participation in an altcoin giveaway. They are not allowed ANYWHERE on the forum according to theymos. Had it been a Bitcoin giveaway, it would have been allowed in Games and Rounds. There is no mention about Bitcoin giveaways not being allowed.
It's sad that so many good members got affected. At least it made me go over the rules one more time and remember never to participate in one in the future.

Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections. From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.

According to this post by theymos, giveaways in altcoins sections are against rules and anyone post in the thread should be banned. But that giveaway had been posted on games and round. So I don't think users should be banned. But what bitcasino did was against rules. Because of posting altcoin giveaway in games and round.
It was Bitcasino fault. not users who posted there.

As the reward was in an altcoin, I guess the thread was moved to altcoins sections by moderators and then it was deleted and users were banned.
Even if that's the case, I don't think users should be banned, because they have posted in games and rounds and that's not against the rules.

Rules don't say altcoin giveaway are against rules. It says giveaways posted in altcoins sections is against rules.
Even if altcoin giveaway is against rules, the rule regarding that has been pinned in Bounties (Altcoins). As only bounty hunters visit that board, in my opinion, this ban was not fair.

Posting this on behalf of Royse777

=======

I just logged into my account and found I am banned too. This is very confusing and frustrating. We the established members do not post there to abuse the system but perhaps forget for a sec that it do break the forum rule.

May be revise the rule and if anyone post any altcoin giveaway then just delete the topic and pm them the reason of deleting the topic and forbid them not to post the same topic again.

Profile: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/ab-de-royse777-366632
With others, it's clear that this is a mistake which was not meant to be made but it just happened. Hence, can I request a ban lift from my account too?

PS: Instead of creating a new account, I am requesting efialtis to post it on behalf of me. Please verify the blow singed message in case of any doubt.

My main account khaled0111 has been temp banned too for the same reason.
What I can't understand is that the giveawy thread was in the Games and Rounds sub-section and I don't see how replying there could be against forum rules.

This is really frustrating and hope a global mod will consider our appeals as soon as possible.

Am appealing here too to avoid creating another topic.

Spending countless hours in this forum, doing a lot for the community as well as trying to help whenever possible and then getting banned for 7 days for such a reason? Lol... Sweet! And all of that during corona qarantine time, lol.

Royse777 just contacted me via TG, banned, too...

Nb. Man that 360 seconds limit...

Just delete the fucking give away thread & that’s all that needed to happen. I didn’t even know it was against the rules. I don’t participate in them, I only did to help bitcasino.io & create more interest.

Same here... Threads, that arent welcome, usually just get deleted and thats about it, no? Banning dozens of users, including us (dont mean we are any better but you know, its not like we are bounty hunters/spammers/shitposters...). Unbelievable!

It’s LFC_Bitcoin

I just logged in to see I’ve been banned for 7 days for participating in a TRON altcoin competition. I only entered it to help the company in my sig, bitcasino.io

I had no idea that this was against the rules.
All you had to do was pick a number from 1-100 & maybe win 8000 TRON. I don’t need the money, I only entered upon a request from somebody else.

Why not just delete the thread, a ban is too harsh imo. Can this be reversed?

There were loads of people posting in that thread. I hope I’m not the only one who got banned.

Mother of buggery bollocks.

Man we will so miss you while we make coin hand over fist fight this injustice.

Lol - I was just about to post exactly the same - let me use this one instead of creating a seperate thread mate? You were also the first one who came to my mind when thinking about who else must have been banned...

efialtis Ban Appeal

Well, I just saw I got a 7 day ban for "Participating in an on-forum altcoin giveaway ("Bitcasino.io" TRX giveaway). Ban duration: 7 days" - wtf? Since when are you getting banned when taking part in a giveaway? I didnt spam, pm or do anything else. In addition to me, several other established members posted in that thread - they all banned as well?!

That suxx big time... :/
