I have an old MSI Z77 Mpower board w/ 3570k CPU and for the life of me I can't get it to post with 7 GPUs. It does come with 7 PCIe slots but it hangs up with code 95 during boot up.

Does anyone know if using a PCIe splitter, does it demux the lanes?

Hello,

I can't get to work more than 6x gtx 1060 3gb.
Works with zcash but with claymore it give me this error "cannot allocate big buffer for dag"
Any ideas?Huh
I tried with simpleming OS nvidia beta and it does work but this beta doesn't have any OC options yet. So for now i want this to work with windows.

Thanks

Fail to plan, and you plan to fail.

I think the naysayers mean Pcie Splitters do not work with Pascal cards (GTX 1060, 1070 etc).
If you have a motherboard with 7 pcie slots, or use m.2 to pcie converters, you can run 7 or 8 cards.
But if you try using the 1x3 Pcie splitters, they will not work with Nvidia cards.

Let me save you the trouble - you can only get 6 nvidia cards working unless you go to a server mobo with 2x processors.  We put extensive time in testing with H81 and Z97 gaming 5 + pcie splitter.  It's an issue with the amount of memory / pci lanes available.  If you do get it to work somehow, please let us know.  Good luck.

Bunch of FUD here. I've got several working rigs with 7x GTX 1070 or 7x GTX 1060 on MSI Z170 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboards.

No splitter needed, that board has 7 PCI-E slots and two M.2 slots.  One M.2 slot can be converted to PCI-E with an adapter:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA86V4U72894

That board will probably be my next build.

EDIT:  Correction the Z270-P has 6x PCI-E and two M.2.  The Z270-A has 7 PCI-E and two M.2.  You can potentially run eight cards and use the second M.2 for an SSD, eliminating additional cabling, as shown by nicehash.

I am running 7x1070 no issue. Asus z270f strix with Asus strix gpu with total of 208mhs.

Two months ago I read that nvidia can earn more on zcash not sure now still valid.

I was in on that post with the 3900 only letting you set up 4 cards.  They are a pain in the A** change to a 4400 and had no issues at all going 5 cards.  I have not personally tried more than 5 cards yet.  I have an Nvidia rig Asus H270 Plus that I hope to get 6 cards on.  Only has 2 with 3rd in the mail now.

Nicehash has demonstrated 8 detect without issue on a non-server mobo:

https://www.nicehash.com/?p=news&id=155

If my splitter doesn't pan out or I get only 7 running, then this will be the route I will take for dense rigs.

I also have MSIZ170 M5, now have 4 X 1080 Ti + 2 X 1070, so totally 6 GPU without any problem (PCIE 2~7). But if I put 4 X 1080 Ti only, for some specific slot combinations, only three 3 card can be detected.

Minor work to do with Bios.

I have G4400 though, some people here reported he got problem with more than 5 GPUs when using G3900.

We have 2 x MSI Z170A GAMING M5 motherboards here that are supposed to do 7 GPUs  each. One will be with Rx 480s (hopefully will be built soon) and the other with GTX 1070s (not for a week or so most likely). I'll report the results here for both of them when done.

I have the PCI-E 1 to 3 board now.  Working through an issue with my motherboard then I can hook it up and see what happens.  I've seen others use the same setup so I'm hoping it will work without issue.  Should know in a day or two.

Well I have several 7 GPU AMD rigs, not an issue for on the AMD side to set one up.

Just don't know what gotcha's are out there on the Nvidia side for 7 GPU's

7 GPU use is a bios or sometimes driver limitation;  not an OS.... keep that in mind =)

I have parts coming to test 7 and 8 GPU versions.  Just waiting on the PCI-E splitter that has been shown to work with RX4xx based cards out to 7, so I'm going to test it with NVIDIA as well.

I'll post once I have it, should be a week or so since it's coming from China.
