Does she not have a handbag?Surely with 41k she could have bought a nice handbag to carry all that moolah. She could even have bought it duty free Cheesy

As every orifice and possession is subject to search in violation of human rights... she would have been better off buying a $41k handbag like a Kardashian, then reselling it at her destination.

But she would need to declare the bought of the handbag aswell, no?

Do people normally declare the value of their luggage?

No because the local law gives a "break" if you have small itens with you and less than 10, so you don't really need to declare.
But someone that wanted to carry $41K probably already spent more.

What's significant in the article to justify the topic?

Just another money smuggler that got caught, happens every day.

Smuggler was 78 yo and female. (Maybe that is it !)

Where is she heading? She might not be aware of the 10k capital control law.

Hmmm, that's promising, but I still wouldn't someone will find away around it eventually if they're determined enough lol Tongue offline is always the best defence against hackers, point is, far better for the Bitcoins to not be there in the first place and then they can't get stolen.

Yes, but the trick with BIP38 is that to try out passwords, you need a GPU/CPU that does work. 1 try takes about 10 seconds, so you can't really bruteforce it. Very safe.

You NEVER say something like that on the internet Hfleer lol Tongue I picked a VPS because you could store it in relative safety and privately as opposed to just leaving it floating around on the internet, if you wanted to get really radical if you have a permanent place to stay you could set up a laptop or computer and remote desktop it then send the money over there that way and shut the computer down.

But it is true. Some guy posted a BIP38 wallet with over 1 BTC in it and it only has 4 digit password, it is still not cracked!

I will try to find it.

Buy VPS in Hong Kong or some other country where America has little influence, set up a wallet, get your flight set up to where ever you want to go, bring a laptop with nothing suspicious on it, reach your country, get to where you're staying, load up a Bitcoin wallet on your laptop, connect to your VPS, retrieve your money.

Capital control defeated Wink Now you could just use an online wallet, but I wouldn't dare leave it their for an extended period of time especially if going to a foreign country, don't forget to use a VPN to connect to your VPN if your country has become particularly paranoid!

Just use an BIP38 encrypted private key. You could post that key online, still noone could crack it Wink

There's television shows about airport security and border offenses.

Sneaking in money happens all the time and it's largely people from developing countries where capital control forbids them from transferring funds abroad.

You can essentially get $USD cash anywhere these days but sending money from your bank account to an account abroad is another.

Bitcoin is a theoretical way to get around this (like all the Chinese who were buying in 2013) but this is an obscure technology when considering there's only like 1 million users.

Is it even illegal to bring money?

If you don't declare it --> yes.

It is called capital control.

So I dont understand, why don't she declare it?

MAybe because she hasn't paid taxes for it?

There are several reasons for this actually.
