Topic: $800 Electric Bill . . + My Current GPU Mining Profitability (Read 4935 times)

I had the same problem r many years. I’ve got a big house, and I can’t force my kids with the light off when they don’t need it, plug out some devices after use, and many other little things that affect our bill. We used to pay more than 900$ each month only for electricity. Sometimes we had to pay the same umm or even bigger for the water because my daughter refused to take showers instead of a bath, and my little son liked to play with water when we didn’t see it. Thanks to Energy Australia, I’ve managed to install an alternative source of energy and don’t have to pay so much for electricity no more.

I'm fully aware of the issues of moving - I just DID so last summer.

If you're going to be serious about long-term profitable mining, though, you NEED to get somewhere with low electric cost.

Quint, could you share how much the lease is per sf?

Where I'm at right now, about 50 cents per square foot per month for a space that is about half office, half warehouse setup - but this can vary widely, Wenatchee is noticeably higher most of the time on the Craigslist listings I've seen in the size range I keep an eye on (but probably lower on LARGE spaces, like most areas).

I'm wondering when OP is going to rig up a large hamster-type wheel for his kid to run on to generate a few extra watts.

Any chance you can buy solar?

Nice setup and videos. Really like seeing what other people have going on in the "home" miner sections.

When I was in Nevada my all-in elec was around the $0.115, so pretty high. As the guy above said, Washington has pretty dang cheap power.
Thanks brother! Honestly this thread has got me thinking about moving out there over the next couple years haha xD

Renvu (large solar supplier in CA) is running a free shipping special this week, so I broke down and ordered 48 280W panels and the needed ground mount hardware to do another 2 x 24 panel arrays.  This will boost my production by another 13.44Kw.  Cheesy

These are the panels I got:

https://www.renvu.com/Solar-Products/Mono-Poly-Crystalline-Solar-Modules/AXITEC-AXIBlackPremium-280W-ALL-BLACK-Mono

That should bring my cost per kWh back down close to $ 0.00 per kWh, at least until I add a bunch more rigs.
ugh, I'm so jealous of your setup that makes it . . even more awesome xD

Honestly its clearly deserved though as the amount of work you put in is insane

When you're looking at solar array pieces, what is the ideal $ for power formula? so roughly what you just ordered is 200x48 output = 13.44 kw ?

long term and to pay it off then a huge farm is needed and that will take sometime.

My farm is not "huge" by any measure.

I just don't insist on living "high on the hog" while I get it established and grow it.

I  mining ETC with 3 rig 470.
what coin will profitable today.. can SO tell me some Coin?
thanks

Just mine ETH and hold it. It is better to mine something that has a stable price than to mine something that is very volatile at the moment. If you can, mine XMR on the side too that way you get to hold that as well. Just diversify and you will be fine.

You should keep a separate thread on your project, next year if prices on alts increase I am sure alot of folks would be interested in doing something similar

Yeah! I have this debate with a couple of my local mining buddies, in this area and esp. theirs (northern va) you have to have a pretty serious farm to warrant the offset. Rent is ridiculous around them and quite honestly I think around me too.

Also for those that do move into a commercial space to rent . . how do you make the modifications to dissipate the heat + upgraded electric? if you're left to foot that bill your ROI will be extended dramatically

Yeah, that is a huge problem concerning roi, every cent counts.

I specifically looked for a space that already had the capability of good ventilation and LOTS of outlets - and cleared with the landlord (I think they're also the owner) ahead of time that I'd be installing evaporative cooling instead of using the existing window-style air conditioners.

I'm fairly small scale though for a "pro" miner.

Took me a bit to figure out why the space was as low cost as it is - then the first train rumbled by, there's a track less than 100 feet behind the place.

You ever thought about contacting you power company and getting commercial rates? The reason I say this is because the residential rates for my power company Duke Electricity is about $0.13 kWh maybe a little more after
taxes and other fees. If I was a commercial customer with "Demand Rates" meaning I will use 24,000 kWh a year which is simple I believe that is 24 KW (a year not month) I would pay about $10 a KW plus a fee of plus a set fee of about $12 delivery fee. So if my math is right at $10 KW that is .0138 kWh plus the delivery fee of $12 this is much cheaper then my current residential rate and I live in what looks like a more expensive power rate area than you so you may have a better deal on a commercial rate.
Ironically the commercial rate from my electric company would be the same or possibly higher. .  lol theyre also proposing to raise both rates some so that's frustrating to say the least but ultimately I plan to grow enough to warrant an expansion into an area that will give me cheaper elec.

Yeah same in my area, switching from residential to comerial Demand rates save me around 30% of what I am spending comercially, now I just have to figure out how to get all my gear moved , ask about the Demand service

they also give discounts on bulk use or credits whatever they call it.

Ouch! That's some hefty price tag you got there buddy. Better move your mining somewhere else with cheaper power. Do you even RoI with that? I'm thinking that most of the stuff you mine goes out to pay back that electric bill.

That is not how things are, moving means renting, renting means money, what he pays right now is not mind blogging, now think about moving, paying less on electricity and paying the rent which is around $1000, his roi will be much much worse than now, now if he has a huge blood farm with megawatts that the less electricity he pays outstrip by a lot the rent price then yes is viable but then again there are others issues about moving to another place.
