In my country Bitcoin is not known to everybody because Bitcoin has banned by our government in 2012. Our government also ruled that if anybody found using Bitcoin he/she will sent to Jail for at least 12 months so in our country people can't use Bitcoin freely. That's why Bitcoin is not so popular in our country and I think there are not more than 1% people who know about Bitcoin properly.

In India, people are aware of bitcoin but only the creme and educated elite of the country which is keenly engrossed into the tech world. But most of the population that is unaware of the upcoming events in the tech world is totally unaware of this virtual world. this article also makes it clear that what section of the Indian population is mainly entrusted with the knowledge of the crypto world.

One more thing to add on, as of now the scenario in India has changed a bit because of the media attention being paid to the recent statement release by the RBI regarding the discontinuation of bitcoin n cryptocurrency related transactions. So due to this recent buzz, more and more people are getting aware somewhat about this topic.

I'd be curious if Bitcoin Forum members can chime in on what the estimated awareness might be for their region or country:

  https://news.bitcoin.com/survey-japanese-bitcoin/

a quote:
"A recent survey of 10,000 men and women across Japan shows that 88% of them have heard of bitcoin. Among those that have bitcoin, 47% said that they have used it in retail stores but long-term investment is most respondents’ main reason for purchasing bitcoin."

I'm not surprised to hear that 88 percent of Japanese people have heard of bitcoin and 47 percent have used bitcoin in retail stores. We all know that Japan is the world's cryptocurrency capital. The Japanese government is the most friendly country for encrypting currencies, and the government has encouraged people to participate in cryptocurrencies.
My country is a developing country, the government did not explicitly accept bitcoin, so the bitcoin in my country is not very good, the development of the only few people know the bitcoin

yeah they heard of bitcoin from mainstream media, the sad part is. Bitcoin's name being tarnished by pyramiding scams and ponzi scheme using bitcoins name. So most people who is not tech savvy would assume bitcoin is a form of scam.

In my country most percent of the populations are aware of btc , but its not regulated here due to which banks have become strict in usage if btc and all related purchases. Hence many people are here just watching the volatality of crypto and just relaxing well.

Japan has a big technological advancement and people are aware of it because the country itself are involved with the improvements of bitcoin and one of the first major exchanges are on japan Mt. gox. But mt.gox shutdown because of bancruptcy and other reasons.

After you have posted this, a lot of things had changed. Bitcoins got a lot of hype in 2017 year end and those stats would have changed a lot.

Investing in encryption in Japan is about the same as investing in stocks in China, but encryption is forbidden in China.

I can say that only around 5% of Filipino people are involved in Bitcoin. Just recently, Bitcoin's name has been stained because of Filipino scammers using Bitcoin as a payment method to their huge scheme. We have miners, traders, and ICO investors. We also have a ton of bounty participants. The only thing is not much of the people here are accustomed to payments using digital means. So Bitcoin is not really that of a daily currency. People here still choose paper money over digital/crypto and it's sad to live in a country like this.

Here in our country we are not that digital people because where in third world country but there are some people  knew bitcoin and uses it. It is just a matter of adapting it and spreading about bitcoin with the help of our government so that we could be like japan in the future.
In our country people have old system of payment and using fiat currency for every work. They even do not know what Bitcoin is and for what Bitcoin has designed for these questions we must to introduce Bitcoin in public places for the knowledge of people that in future they must take benefit of the currency for future use as it will be the single future currency using as payment and every where as a single currency because of the easiness it has brought.

I think 20-30% would have heard about bitcoins in my country. Among these 1 % might be investing, there is still lot of possibility for growth.

I think my country in Philippines the percentage is almost 41% users and investors because many people did not trust with friend getting a fiat money through internet and negative thinking about bitcoin so small percentage user's in this country

Vietnam is not a developed country in terms of technology. Unlike in Japan, a technology-intensive country. So in Vietnam, very few people know about bitcoin with less than 50% of the population know bitcoin. Even in the countryside where I live, people do not even know about information technology.

I don't have enough data to support it but based on my observation we already have 30% who have known bitcoin, and 1 out of 1000 people are investing in it. We already have millions of people who knows bitcoin already but some of them does not want to get involve in this kind of earnings.

to see that so many people know about bitcoin in Japan, I have never seen such statistics released in my country, but I speculate that if they did I would guess less than 1% of the population of my country knows about bitcoin, even people who know about technology do not know anything about bitcoin and i know because i have chance to meet Bitcoin is big enough in Japan for a while now. Even Mt. The Gox scandal is basically based there. It would be hard not to hear it. Even so, even Japan, one of the most friendly countries for Bitcoin still has a long way to go. The title can be slightly misleading as it somewhat implies that Japan as a whole is becoming Bitcoin, but the majority

88% is quite high, even for a developed country such as Japan. I am also living in the first world, but I really doubt whether more than 50% of the residents here have heard about Bitcoin.
