Looks like the blockchain is moving along nicely again.  Now it's time to do some marketing.  I have a volunteer designing some banners.  Can I get someone to design a landing page?
Also I was considering changing the 3 character code to either OTC, OCO, or CPH and moving the triple to become part of a dedicated currency symbol:

What the opinion here?
Feel free to submit designs.

New 10.4 wallets have been published and the main thread has been updated.  Pool operators are encouraged to update to this release, especially if you are getting the following error and you have the full chain up to block #552172:

Code:
WARNING mining # Blockchain is downloading... will check back in 30 sec

The 'getblocktemplate' RPC function returns:

Code:
error: {"code":-10,"message":"Octocoin is downloading blocks..."}

Update to 10.4, add the following to your configuration, and restart Octocoin:

Code:
maxtipage=432000

Wallets and source can be downloaded from Github or http://getoctocoin.com/

The 10.4 release tag has been cut and is available on Github.
https://github.com/octocoin-project/octocoin/releases/tag/v0.10.4.0

Wallets are currently compiling.  Once complete I'll update the thread and post here.

The two most notable changes in this version are the BIP65 soft fork to enforce OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY opcode and the new configuration/command line option to manually specify your own maxtipage.  As a result of BIP65, Octocoin will now mine version 4 blocks.

Also of note... Since it's been more than 24 hours since the last mined block your clients may get stuck on "Octocoin is downloading blocks..." on startup.  If your client is stuck in this state you won't be able to use the RPC mining functions even though you actually have the latest block.  To work around it, first make sure you upgrade to Octocoin Core version 10.4, then pass the command line parameter:

Code:
-maxtipage=

Where '' is the value (in seconds) greater than 24 hours.  So you may use something like:

Code:
-maxtipage=432000

To specify 5 days (increase as needed).

You can also add that to your configuration file if needed:

Code:
maxtipage=432000

10.4 release will be made available in just a few hours.  This merges in all the latest upstream Litecoin changes since 10.3.  Also manually ported in the command line and config file option 'maxtipage' (more on that later) from the upstream Bitcoin codebase.

Hmm, looks like the difficulty got pushed up to almost 2000+ at one point while I was busy with real life and working.  Not sure if that's good or bad, especially since we have not mined a block for almost a day now.
Anyway... I'll spend this weekend updating the website and forum posts.  I've also gotten some interest from volunteers which is a good sign.

Thanks for your support of Octocoin so far.

Adding PoS would probably solve the issues with difficulty.  If we add that feature, would 'Octocoin' still be 'Octocoin'?

WOW that difficulty though.  I think they're just trying to disrupt the coin and see if dev does anything or lets coin die.

@myfirst PoS would be great. I don't think adding the feature changes anything its just an addition to the coin, unless your looking to rebrand in which case I would be for it as well.  I think the community is just hoping for more regular updates/communications from you but im sure you'll get some support on anything your looking to do with Octocoin.

I noticed that Bitterex was going to remove OCTO the counterparty asset.  This may help pave the way for reintroducing Octocoin 888 to bitterex.  I believe they have a large stash of coins from when Octocoin 888 was originally removed.

Ok guys i started to mine at paysafe pool, miner runs ok, sending shares,

But when i add wallet adrress to miner info it says aprox speed 0H/s

Why is that ?

thats the adrress

Paysafe pool ? What is this pool website address?

I know that http://octocoin.securepayment.cc takes a few minutes (5-10 min) to show hashrate, sometimes it doesn't show at all but when I check blocks solved by my address it shows found and cgminer shows its connected and working.

Well, probably for the best the price is so low, it will keep away the multipool so our miners can rack up the octo.

Let me know when we're ready to pump, once you miners have had your fill. PM me and I'll help when the time comes.

i wish people would pull their sells under 300 sats, I'd be willing to pump it, but I don't have 0.3 BTC!

there was a shit ton of volume on yobit today, we should get ready to push this to the moon

damn i missed it some lucky person picked up just under 300k really cheap and it exploded from there

Yeah, people were going crazy in yobit chat, like 10 people were all screaming GO 888 GO!!! bout time we got some recognition.

Yobit seems to list the coins on the left-hand column by volume, so now 888 is actually visible. Lets put some more volume on it in the next 12 hours or so, so it's 24-hour average doesn't drop. I think getting the price back to the ballpark it was earlier today is important, but secondary to sustaining volume so that we keep our visibility. Once we drop back to the bottom, that could be a K.O for the coin, history will show a mini-pump and then no activity, not good. I don't have much BTC or 888, but I'm liquidating holdings in other coins to be able to keep some volume happening. Every bit counts. Every minute we're on that top 20 list is one minute of free promo.

All's fair in love and trading amirite? Smiley

So it's a battle between keeping it low enough so the multipool stays away, and keeping volume high enough to not be de-listed.

As long as we're on the same page as far as long-term growth is concerned, I'm all for fucking the multipool over, doesn't hurt to scoop up some cheap now anyways.

And perhaps this buys us time to consider the technical ramifications of going to PoS, if that's even feasible almost 2 years into a coin's life. Also, what that will mean for trading... although TBH, the real traders don't mine, so they wouldn't care. I was a lowly miner, but all the good fortunes I've had in crypto have come from trading. Bought my GTX 980 with my profits, woo! too bad i can't really mine with it anymore, was sad to see the old 7970 sputter and die Sad

I hope we can count on you to move the price in the right direction when the time comes. I personally feel that 400 sat is a good baseline, that's what it used to be, and even though a lot of coins have been mined since then, there are actually LESS coins in the wild right now than there was back then, because of that huge burn. I think it has potential to go up a lot higher, would like to see 1500 sat be the baseline one the coin hits it's stride. I was a part of the blackcoin team and look at what they did. I still know the dev of that first reverse-multipool that would mine BTC to buy blackcoin, just put constant buy pressure on the market, it was a cool idea.

Why not switch octocoin to a pos algo for the long term?? Make coin cap infinite and introduce 1-2% yearly stake interest to keep inflation low. The pow system right now is broken with multipools abusing it and no blocks being found for 10-20 hours at a time making the coin unusable. Besides POS provides a better main chain for sidechains later on and helps a coin better retain value. That is my opinion i would like to hear other peoples opinion on this.

POS would be awesome i'm definitely for that.  POW is terrible right now something is definitely wrong or there is some massive attack idk.

Also, whoever keeps pushing the price down, just let them have their fun. Don't feed him.

Constantly eating the buy walls and pushing a massive sell wall down.

Pretty obvious attempt to get the price down low enough to get tons of this coin for cheap.

Don't sell 888 that low, we've waited long enough, we can wait past this, don't let him sink the ship, it only works if there's volume this low. IF not he'll learn.

I'll admit i helped dump down hoping the lower price will deter the miner from mining. The number of orphans I've had are ridiculous.
