The chart is back up! Today's Mt Gox downtime is clearly visible...

Did you contact Mt. Gox about it ? Maybe they would be interested to have this directly integrated in the site !

I guess their top priority at the moment is more fighting the DDOS than integrating fancy graphics, but if they want to integrate it, I'm all for it Smiley

A few motivated people sent me a nice bounty of 10 BTC to open source the code for the chart, so here it is:

Enjoy, and don't hesitate to fork!

That is very nice my friend. Id like to talk to you about developing some real time charting apps.

It looks great! Would it be worth colour coding buys/sells?

Your buy is always someone else's sell...

maybe red for one, blue for the other, and a heavy mixture would make purple?

Or something along those lines

BTW, does anyone know if there is a simple way of refunding people with bitcoin, ie. sending the coins back to where they came from?

I'm also interested. I came across this question when thinking about how a political party could use BTC for donations and membership fees. Any payments that can not be attributed to a real person would need to be rejected so either given back or handed over to the president of the Bundestag in Germany for example. Actually having to give it to the president would be fun as in return that guy would have to somehow accept/take BTC, wouldn't he?

What a great way to visualize Mt Gox trades!  What language did you use?

Python with matplotlib. It was actually pretty simple Smiley

That's a very nice chart Smiley

The part I'm most curious about is where do you get the raw data from mt gox?  Is there a complete 100%-time acurate database available of the transactions (so far) or are you cron-ing the mt gox trade data?

For now it's simply the Mt. Gox trade data, I'm not even storing it.

Offers like this are legit imo. Of course if you are going to hold 7BTC if it doesn't make it people will be irritated. Better to escrow with someone else and only get paid if it makes it in some certain time.

I would probably refund the people who gave or make it open-source anyways after a while.

Strength in numbers
lol, donations work the other way round. you have a service and then you receive tips.
not someone pays you >$200 and then you deliver something.

Excellent.  I love it.  However, I would like for an option to view it where bubbles are summed.  Such that the contour revealed how much was traded at that time.  Many small trades and one large trade appear quite differently.  But those two mean the same thing to me.

I agree, a way to group transactions would be nice. But you would necessarily lose some info.

He already does. A chart that was linked up above. It is also within his rights to ask for donations. Don't understand why ridicule is needed in this case. Unless that's just how you operate.
